Regardless of what happens over the next couple of days, Kyle has shown us exemplary professionalism. He's been fully engaged and played his role in our good start; all the while I'm sure he's had plenty going on in the background. He's such a good player that frankly, I'm amazed he's still here. If he stays, he's the best player in the Championship.

Agree, I’m genuinely amazed he’s still here. Had him down to go in the JWP/Lavia bracket as a first choice for another PL club. He is very obviously much too good for the championship

I'm keeping quiet on him until the window has slammed shut! Like you, I'm surprised he's still here.

Hope he stays, would be completely unexpected.

If he somehow does, would like to see him step up a bit more - he’s been solid so far defensively, but still feel he’s playing within himself at the moment. If we can get him firing going forward it will add another dimension to us.

Why do people constantly need to preach to everyone else what is in their view morally acceptable? Why do they need to publicly snort out loud how morally superior they are to others, it’s  boring and insecure.
The way they always need to differentiate between black and white skin is nauseating.

I know you said this best part of a month ago but I’ve just seen it and, seriously, WTF were/are you banging on about pal?

Feels strange that there haven't even been rumours.

I can see on Twitter there are Liverpool, Man U, WHU, Palace etc etc fans saying "why don't we sign him" but unless I've missed it there's been no warm links. Odd.

48 hours to go....

It's very odd.  Such a good player and plays the narrower wing-back Martin style very well.   I've always thought he should be up there in Southgate's thinking for the England squad.  To see so little rumour and signs of a move this close to Friday is a shock.   The closest he has come to flagging a move was a quote early on in pre-season where he said he'd be lying if he didn't want to continue playing in the Prem.

I imagine many clubs have called and asked how much and our price tag has been massive which ends the discussion. Surprised his agent hasn't created some noise.

Let's hope that we have been quietly and efficiently sending clubs on their way, and at the same time quietly and efficiently telling KWP that he won't go unless we get silly money, and KWP has been quietly and efficiently got on with playing.

It's the hope that kills you...

Would be simply insane if he stayed.

Does the COT have any info?

We can't reveal too much on this one - top secret.

What I will say though.. If someone meets our valuation, he's off.

Make of that what you will.

More like hilarious bullshit. What's more Saints and Stewart have been linked on Newsnow for months together with Piroe and Wood and a few others. For contradiction and changing circumstances Newsnow takes some beating.

Absolutely no-one has come in for him yet, but with all players this summer, we have set an asking price (I don't know what that is) and he'll go if a club meets it.

I get that but surely at this point we won't let him go until we've got a replacement?

I think if he goes we'll probably get Cody Drameh from Leeds. RM likes him and he'll be available now they've signed Djed Spence on loan.

True, but from the West Ham end that seems very unlikely

not sure I follow. I am pretty sure they would be happy to let Johnson go. He was seen as very poor for them last season.

I mentioned this yesterday, KWP would be a good option for West Ham and I wouldn't be surprised if they made an offer. I don't think they have quite got their fullback slot sorted and he can obviously cover both.

Could possibly see a swap deal with KWP, but pretty late for something like that now

Very late to start that kind of negotiation, but who knows, maybe discussions have been going on for weeks and it's just not made the press. Many do go under the radar - the Fati to Brighton move - I can't find a single story (in the weeks before) about that transfer before it was announced today.

From what I hear from the West Ham side of things it’s very unlikely, it’s not that difficult to follow.

He's probably too small for WHU.  They're the Burnley / Stoke of the league.  They're going to be dominated in most games and nick goals with set pieces or on the counter. KWP doesnt fit that way of playing IMO.

The preferable choice for me (over Drameh) but this close to the end of the window with no plausible links to KWP leaving, I think he stays. Maybe he's said he's happy to. He only has to stick it until January anyway and then he can reassess and push for the move if he wants to. Hopefully by then we have a good indication of whether we're in the running for promotion or not.

KWP is one of the very few signings from Spurs that have worked well for us, and a just reward for past signings

that Daniel Levy has scre*ed us over, (with the Hojbjerg deal as a stand out example the last time).

Ironic that now we see Spurs trading off some of the defenders that have failed to fill that role since. (Spence latest).

Also ironic that KWP has proven that he can play in either full back position with equal skill, and is just what Spurs need right now.

I don't believe that Levy would dare to re-sign him, as it would prove what a mistake he made in letting him go in the first place.

I doubt that KWP would be happy to return , but I hope he gets a good move as he is a genuine Prem. level player.

Assuming he doesn’t get a late move to Saudi or Turkey, it looks like he’s staying. He’s played every minute of every game so far, no sign of agent planted stories trying to get him a move to any Prem club that would take him. Just got on with things.

What a fantastic signing he’s been, and what a great player/person to have at the club. If anyone needs their own chant it’s him. Hope he gets a great reception at the next home game.

Good solid pro, defo premiership level so a real plus keeping him this window. His size probably narrows down his options as some managers won’t fancy him, but I’m surprised he hasn’t been in more demand.

Really need to get him a song, to show how much he is loved. Week after week he is one of the star performers and nothing. Aribo comes on and his name is being sung within a minute, (although today he actually earned it, very impressive), Kyle must be wondering what he has to do……

If am upper Prem team needs him then they'll have the money to prise him away.

However he's going to want regular football, and unless there is RB injury that is unlikely.

Obviously the lower teams want him but no point in that move.

He can afford to wait until the summer to see what his options are.

I mentioned on another thread a few days back that Everton used to sing "We all agree, Duncan Mackenzie is magic" (someone has since pointed out to me that Leeds started it when he was their player) it got most of the ground joining in. 'Kyle Walker Peters' would fit quite nicely into this. Can't remember anyone doing it since and probably a bit naff these days but couldn't be more simple for our fans that seem to struggle with chants these day.

Change his name to something that rhymes with 'we hate pompey'.

How about:

Kyle Walker Peters and if it's quite alright
Kyle Walker Peters to warm the lonely nights
Kyle Walker Peters trust in me when I say...
Kyle Walker Peters don't let me down I pray
Kyle Walker Peters now that i found you stay.

Im sure someone can tailor it a little...

This guy is just way too good for this level. 8/10 at least every week. I fully expect him to go in the summer as he is definitely a Premier League top half quality player. We just can't afford to let him go in January.

Posted

Need to keep the lad in January. Be criminal to let him go, as he is surely assured of a PL suitor come the summer, providing we don't go up.

We'll see what Kyle and the Club are made of come January, I guess.

It is ridiculous that a player of his ability is at this level to be honest. We're pretty lucky.

'if' we get a crazy bid, which with 18 months left would have to be in the £25m region, then he'll go. I don't think clubs will put that sort of money on the table though. I genuinely see him getting his head down and sticking at it here, obviously if we don't go up he'll go - we'll lose a bit of value on him, but we could still push for £15m.

Without doubt my favourite player in this current squad. Seems such a level headed guy.

Don't be daft - he's not that talented!

Doubt he'll be here after January. 18 months left on his contract? SR will want to cash in.

Quality, quality player. Insanely good for a Championship team.

Hope we can keep him: expect that we won't.

Why on gods earth would the club sell our best player in Jan?

If they believe we have a serious chance in going up, he is the last player that should be sold.

Exactly. He's also probably happy knowing he's the best player in the club and in the summer he'll be in a better position to assess his options. If we're promoted, he may even think of staying. Don't know if anyone came for him in the autumn but maybe he actually likes it at Southampton - or maybe his agent isn't as pushy as most!

SR are all about player trading. I've got a nagging feeling they might cash in. Was very surprised he wasn't sold in the summer.

Hope I'm way off.

He’ll probably stick around til the end of the season. He’s spoken highly of RM and his teammates in recent interviews and seems to be playing with a smile on his face most of the game - it was noticeable yesterday throughout.

£15m-20m will probably see him leave, but it would be damaging to see him leave next month. More likely come the end of the season.

KWP is my favourite player.
Thought he was very good in the Prem but absolutely top class in our current position.
All that said, if I was running the club I would contemplate letting him leave... a) if a very good offer came in... b) if he wanted to go...and c) if the transfer fee was invested in a good left back and a better striker than we have at the moment.
I say this because KWP's value will decrease as he nears a contract renewal and if we dont go up this season, the club will have to further reduce wages as the parachute payments fall away and KWP (and his agent) know he can earn a lot more in the Prem, especially as he has not been one of our top earners anyway.
