Russ needs to get into them.  Far too slow and cautious.  5 shots against there 4, yet we have had 75% possession.  I’m not Che’s biggest fan, but him and Aribo are moving into decent positions and not getting the ball.

We started the first 15 with much more zip and directness. Coventry then sat much deeper and we fell into the pass pass pass phase. Towards the end of the half it was very frustrating to watch. Hopefully we start the second half more like the first 15 mins!

I miss the one touch, one twos, quick tempo we were playing against Cardiff, which their defence couldn't deal with. We've reverted back to the slow, laborious, predictable play.

This seems to be a repeating pattern under Russell Martin unfortunately... Play textbook / purist Russ-ball for several games until the fans start getting restless  at which point we get a more direct / aggressive version of Russ-ball for one game to appease the fans before then reverting back to standard / ultra safe Russ-ball for another few games...

Admittedly I was dipping in and out doing other things but I thought we looked alright?

Depends whether you enjoy watching walking football.

Russell half time talk : ‘ beeeeautiful lads, Over 70% retention. The fans are going be so pleased with that. Keep those defensive/ midfield triangles going lads and let’s see if we can get to 80% in the second half’

Not watching but have we reverted to pre-Cardiff completely again. Was it a one off.

I refer the right honourable gentleman to my previous observational post... :)

What a load of old nanny moaners on here! They are all trying fgs! Bloody hard when as per usual they put 9 in defence and have a big lump at the back and up front

our main problem is lack of pace…Sulemana??

AA is timed as quick as any player in the league but it requires a bit of independent thinking from one of the midfielders to find him by playing an earlier ball. Fraser will on by 60 minutes but he’s got to be given licence to go at their full backs and CBs.

Cardiff, Leeds and Bham games were all better tempo. Far from the worst display against another in-form team but the ball has got to move quicker and the passing range/scope mixed up a bit more.

All fart, no poo.

Appreciate we’re 12 games unbeaten but the reality is Mark Wotte would have this group as a top 6 team.

I hate Martin’s ignorance with his philosophy on two parts;

1)The ball retention is wasted with the lack of intent to hurt. We’re always seeking the ‘perfect’ goal which can’t be scored unless 60 passes have been made. We attack with one predictable phase and absolutely no chaos.

2) if you watch our combination play, especially from the CB’s, it’s the same triggers and pattern every time. We rely so heavily on one central opponent eventually stepping out/being unbalanced, once that happens only then will we play between the lines. If that doesn’t happen we just repeat and repeat. Taylor BH is itching to hit our 9 or 10 more often when he has the ball.

It’ll be nice to see Aribo carry the ball and have a pop a bit more often, he’s got the beating of their CM’s.

This team could be SO much more.
