United away on a Thursday night in January on TV will get to general sale I imagine.

Rather annoyingly that's also pushed the Forest game back to the Sunday despite it not being on TV.

I remember before I had a season ticket I got to loads of aways as a member - Palace, Arsenal, Spurs, even Brighton ffs.

It's mad how crazy it's got tbh.

We'll see how well we're doing come the new year, Man Utd away, Liverpool away, Everton away, they may not look so attractive.

I always see people on Twitter offering their season ticket customer numbers in advance of the sales period. Of course, they get the benefit of the game being credited to their account. Seems silly to me, especially if using your own name, I'm sure the club monitor that.

I know other teams have done random ID checks on away supporters with names printed on the tickets, I wonder if we will go down the same route. Guess it depends if they see it as a big issue. If there are loads of empty seats at City or Wolves then maybe they will.

It's the ones on Twitter who buy a ticket, and then mysteriously 2 hours later, suddenly can't go and are selling it on, that make me laugh...

Just hoarding up the credit for more decent looking aways and preventing others from getting their foot in the door.

Thanks Pamplemousse. Like you say, the club probably can't be bothered to do much about it if the away section is full. At Cardiff there were lots of empty seats but if it happens in premier league games, they might feel compelled to do something about it.

I guess Saints Membership is still worth it for the priority you get for homes games.

Yup this is a massive problem, you only need to look at social media to see it's the same people every time who stick up message saying that they suddenly "can't make a game"

Personally i think a lot of this could be fixed if the club made a few simple changes, first change is to the criteria. It should be:

Season ticket holders with X aways

Members ticket holders with X aways

Season ticket holders with X -1 aways

Members ticket holders with X -1 aways

Down to season ticket holders, then members, then general.

Second thing to do is monitor socials and ban regular re-sellers, they're pretty easy to identify and just banning a handful will bleed out and discourage. I don't think you can ban re-sellers completely because there is always a valid case, but you've got to make a stand against people doing it regularly.

Course it's easy for me to say that because "i'm alright jack" and actually qualify for most, if not all games, pretty easily. But it does feel the system is broken

A few other clubs do random ticket checks / collection for away games where you need ID etc, don't really want to go down that route like you say plenty of times a mate can't make it and pass it on , it's the deliberate re-sellers that should be targeted.

Historically it's not been an issue for us as even sold out away games used to go to general sale.

Problem is I highly doubt the club care about people selling on their tickets. They're certainly not gonna pay someone to trawl through social media looking for repeat offenders.

Posted

I'm assuming the club ain't making money selling away tickets for league games, so if they're taking full allocations they're probably just happy to get them sold however so not to be lumbered with unsold tickets and costing them a wedge. Can't really blame them but as suggested, members with most away credits should get second pick at each stage on tickets.

The club already regularly monitors social media, why do you think the "influencers" got free puma shirts? Also they've banned people in the past for things said on social media.

Away tickets are always paper but I wonder how long before it goes digital? Would mean if you transfer a ticket, you lose the credit against your customer number.

I guess it would have to be implemented in agreement with every Prem club. Imagine having 20 different clubs' ticket apps

Fair enough. I don't use it so wouldn't even know who the so called influencers are and definitely didn't know they got free shirts.

Still think the club likely aren't arsed about people passing away tickets on as means less chance they're left with a bill. Until there's a big a issue at a game involving a fan who shouldn't have been there I doubt that'll change either.

Loads of clubs are doing digital away tickets already. Think they integrate the apps rather than require users to have multiple different applications

I'm expecting them for Palace unless our app isn't linked up yet.

I do find that odd, considering tickets made it to members it's not like they are that difficult to get and as long as you've done a few aways as a season ticket holder you're pretty much guaranteed for any away game you want to go to except for Bournemouth which we've already had so can't see the incentive to go to the hassle of buying just to sell on

Think it's a self perpetuating cycle. People see how every away game is selling out and don't want to lose their place on the ladder.

I suspect some also have half a mind on a potential Fratton trip next season. Though that's not looking too likely currently!

It will be interesting to see how many more go to members when the games reset to this season which is only a couple of matches away.

Easy. When it comes to the likes of Bournemouth away, with their 20+ away criteria, these people will be 1st in the queue. They just want to build up their credit for more desirable and in demand away games.

Why?

Maybe it’s the last vestige of hope finally getting to the bottom of the barrel.

Maybe the penny is finally dropping that the Club really couldn’t give a flying f**k

I have sympathy for those brave enough and able to to do all the away games - it's not your fault, thanks for bothering more than some of the players do.

We just can't carry on like this, keeping the ball, having good shape, being brave, proud of the lads, creating nothing.

This defeat and performance feels like a pivotal moment.

What if it was gallows humour or songs which were critical of the manager or club instead in the second half? I can understand why people aren’t in the mood to belt out OWTS with the most turgid football since Pellegrino and arguably Branfoot. If the style of play quickened beyond testimonial pace and we actually got shots and crosses in, that’s what helps sustain the visiting supporters.

Good point well made. Love a bit of gallows humour!

To be honest I got too focused on the supporting aspect with regards to singing but any sort of noise helps and encourages others to get involved too.

I just will never understand people travelling to away games to not make any effort whatsoever and just stand there in silence. Or to ignore the match and be on their phones discussing fantasy football and where to get some pervert powder.

Know what you mean. I loved it when Leicester came to SMS in WGS’s first season, rock bottom, and were singing ‘we’re shit and we’re 2-0 up’. These days it would go ‘how shit must you, we’re winning 2-0’. I think it did come out in the Leicester home game tbf.

Yeah and speaking of Leicester I remember our fans singing "Manchester City, we're coming for you" after they went 8-0 up at St Mary's as we were due to play City next.

The point is there are plenty of examples of our support being good while the team have been shit shit. The 3-0 at Brentford under Ralph during that horrific run the season before he got sacked is a good example.

I hate this way of playing as much as most of us do but it doesn't mean I would go to a game without any intention of participating. Later in the game I understand it more but there's no excuse for silence right from the first whistle as far as I'm concerned.

If I had a ticket for an away match and I decided I couldn't be arsed to get involved then I simply wouldn't go.

United on sale next week with the away games being reset so starting on 4.

Taken the full allocation so this might be the first (and only) league game we don't sell out this season. Thursday night in January on TV coming after a very busy 6 weeks or so.

Great opportunity for people to get a ticket who've not been able to so far.

I'd usually agree but the fact we took 5500 to Anfield last season in the cup midweek perhaps there will be enough day trippers looking to do old Trafford.

Forest away a few days later as well, a lot of expense for games where realistically we'll have little to play for.

Yep including a busy end of the year with aways and the league cup quarter final. You may be right but I'd be surprised if we sold 3k for this one. Last season there was a lot more positivity among the fanbase

Old Trafford is always a popular one tbh, even though it's one of the worst grounds in the league, it is literally falling apart and the seats are very tight. Good atmosphere though, as you'd expect.

You're right, we returned some tickets (600) to Man Utd out of the original allocation of just over 3000 we've reduced to 2,424, of which about 150 left to anyone on Saints database with a recent purchase.

Nottingham Forest allocation of 2,932 is now on general sale but only about 75 left.

Surprised Forest went to general sale, thought that would be quite a popular one. Good opportunity for those lower down the ladder though.

Does make me nervous that we might start taking smaller allocations though.
