Weatherley has just signed a one year contract extension to 2025. Quite surprised by that but good luck to him. OK in mid order but not an opener in my opinion.

Happy enough with that, he’s a solid enough batsman who can cover all formats.

@Weston Saintany news on when the women’s squad will be announced (or have I missed it).

All I know at present is that Alice Monaghan is moving to Surrey. Georgia Elwiss is moving to Nottinghamshire.

I might know more in a few weeks when I am lunching with Giles White and Charlotte Edwards although it will be "what is said at the dining table stays with the dining table" :)

It has also been reported by BBC that Women will enter the new Women's T20 Vitality Blast in 2025 under the name of Hampshire.

You are just living the dream aren't you, just a casual lunch with the Hampshire big dogs!

It will be interesting to see how much movement there is between squads. Durham don't currently have a top team, so it will be interesting to see where they create a squad from

Nothing unusual in Cricket. A group of 8 of us arrange an end of season lunch with Rod Bransgrove and have been for some years. Rod invited Lottie this year but he is now away abroad for the date we arranged for this year so Giles is coming in his place.

Cricket is very down to earth.  We also chat to the Coach, Adie, and he is very friendly. One of the perks of being an Executive Member and Gold Debenture holder. :)

Was hoping it was soon - I’m sure I heard/read that Surrey had announced theirs but with AM going there I would have thought her departure would have been announced before.

enjoy your meal - sounds like nice occasion.

Sounds very pleasant! I assume Beefy's at the Hilton is the only acceptable location for such a meal.

Will be interesting to see which Vipers players not contracted to Hampshire make the move over. A real hit for the other counties, essentially removing them from the picture.

Just watching the Blast QFs and two things strike me:

  1. It’s absurd having such a big gap between the group games and the knockout, especially when you have overseas players who only come in for this tournament.
  2. Another all Southern finals day. Not sure what it is about this competition.

Agreed on point 1, all form a team has built up goes out the window and you have to start again.

And somehow, it's also back to the county championship again today. Taking Warwickshire as an example, in the last calendar month they've had players play in England tests, will have players in the England T20 this week, county champ, one day cup, blast and hundred. It is crazy!!

kookaburra ball being used again so would not be surprised if Kent recover a little but let us see.

It’s the only way they can realistically play red ball cricket at either end of the domestic season. Makes the quicker bowlers use their brain/get their speeds up and gives the spinners a way into matches that are normally 130 plays 150 at this stage of the season where 75mph seamers are taking 7/34 or something daft on a green top.

Weird to think this is the same Gloucestershire team we pulled off our only really convincing win against in this year’s Blast.

Bancroft and Miles Hammond is a heck of an opening partnership and good seamers in Payne and the lively Josh Shaw. Taylor is decent but more of a white ball type. Mark Alleyne winning some more silverware to echo the success as their skipper in the 1990s, his lad was in Saints academy but went to Man City.

Why in earth didn't Hampshire enforce the follow-on? The bowlers had a full night's rest to recover.

Strange decision could come back to bite them.

Spoke to Aidi, the coach. We had forced the follow on in the previous two games and not won because bowlers were tired. Wanted to give them a good time to rest. Team very comfortable with our score. Now up to bowlers. 5 down is not a bad response.

Seems fair enough to me, Worcs did get nearly 300 in their first innings so it’s not as though we had them polished off in a couple of hours. Looking like a good decision now, we just have to hope the weather gods are kinder than they were in Kent last week.

Looks like there's plenty of life left in Abbott after all. There're plenty of ifs and buts but you're right, the weather hasn't been kind to us this season. We'll probably get four days of glorious sunshine for our trip to Somerset, only to get thrashed and lose our runners up spot.

Abbott is married with a new child. It will up to him whether he signs an extention. Talks are going on but outcome not yet resolved.

I understand Barker has signed a 1 year extension. He has been troubled by injury this year and presently has a groin niggle.

Robin Smith has been very ill in Australia and just come out of hospital. He has a long road to recovery so fingers crossed for him.

Scott Currie should be back next season after a good season with Leicester including a batting best of 120.

Wish Robin Smith well. My old man played golf with him a couple of times in competitions and said he was a lovely bloke and his driving off the tee was like his square cuts in cricket.

Slightly surprised at Barket getting another year but gives the left arm variety and verging on all rounder status.

Currie has done very well at Leicester, featured in Finals Day as well.

Pretty stupid comment really getting a result with so much bad weather in the Midlands recently was a great outcome

Personally I think it's stupider to host the final in the latter half of September... But to each their own I suppose

15 wickets for 198 runs on day 1.

Seven ducks and counting so far too. Didn’t we get a points deduction last year for the condition of our wicket? Is there anything untoward here I wonder, or just a consequence of playing cricket in autumn.

After a pretty ropey start to the County season, we've come good to an extent. Best of the rest behind Surrey is probably as good as we could have asked at the start of the year. Some thinking to do in recruitment now, particularly with the white ball.

Rough calculation;

In the last 2 seasons LD has scored approx 1800 runs @ 50 and taken 103 wickets @ 22.

Whenever I watch Daws play, I just think that England's loss is Hampshire's gain. To have a player of his calibre regularly available for all formats is an absolute priviledge. Turner on the other hand has been called up to the white ball squad and not bowled a single ball for them.

Well done Hants for an excellent championship season. Lets face it Surrey are the Manchester City of cricket, having the most money and the best squad of players and will be very difficult to get above in the championship. We need to keep one senior bowler on next year to lead the attack, will be interesting to see if we do that,or go for two new overseas players, hopefully Currie will come back ready to push on in all 3 formats.

Liam Dawson is an excellent cricketer, would be in any best ever Hampshire XI for me. Not surprised John Turner not had a bowl for England, was out of sorts in domestic white ball stuff. Very talented prospect but needs some 1-1 coaching from Jimmy Anderson and with Glenn McGrath at the MRF Academy.
