Just seen this on the beeb. Not nice surely mistaken identity?

It appears Hampshire county lines on behalf of a bigger syndicate has either gotten a mistaken identity over a drugs debt or the address is wrong. Seems unlikely that disgruntled Sussex or Surrey supporters are doing it. Stupid of their foot soldiers to have worn branded clothing, but still stinks of organised crime. In a way, the old sponsored players cars of the 90s/00s might have given them a big clue that they had the wrong place/people.

Still, very sorry that James and his family have had to contend with all that aggro, it should stop now that the crims can see they’ve crossed wires.

What’s the point in playing six bowlers if they’re all averaging about 10. I guess we’re trying a few things out with younger players but Wheal, Turner and Jack is just an awful bowling attack. P*ssed wickets away all game too.

But made ridiculously hard work of it. Those 19yr olds started to make very short work of our attack.

Good to see McD and Turner back to form. And Prest took the shackles off - not seen him do that before. Jack isn’t ready yet but good experience I guess in the dead rubbers.

Lots to do next year if we want to compete. We’re not going to win anything if we are relying on the likes of Wheal and Weatherly.

On the plus side I see further improvement from Albert and Prest.

Interesting team for 50 over friendly against Dorset yesterday
Middleton (82)
Gubbins (2) Captain
Prest (38)
Albert (132) kept wicket
Eckland (10)
Organ (51)
Kelly (1)
Jack (0)
Abbott
Wheal
Abbas

Bowling Abbas 6/31
Jack 2/22
Kelly and Organ 1 each.

We won 336/8
Dorset 196 in 45.4 overs.

Abbott and Abbas !!

Strong hints that Abbas will stay with us for comp.

update that it was Gubbins as captain

Think we would have done better if our overseas bowlers had turned up. Missed Nellie and tbh McD and Vince didn’t come to the party until it was too late.

We haven’t had any overseas players in the ODC for the last couple of years, presumably to save money because it’s low priority. I’m guessing we just want to give A and A a run out before the next county match.

They’re both in the preliminary squad for tomorrow so I guess they’re in contention. Looks like a few of our players have made a decent start in the 16.4 namely Vince, Howell, Dawson and Currie.

We’ve actually managed to wrestle a half decent score away from 96-5.

It's an ok score but Abbott is making it difficult to defend it. But Jack has just got their prime run scorer so it may get better.

Vasconcelos doing us a favour so far by letting the run rate rise back up, but they do have plenty of wickets in hand so I'd expect him to start playing some shots soon

One of the positives of the 50 over cricket is that there is plenty of time to get back in the game. No need to panic as some seem to on here.

With plenty of wet weather in the preceding 24 hours the covers left a sweaty pitch with both captains desperate to win the toss and put the other in to bat. It was always going to be a big factor.

Good recovery took us to a par score.

Mo Abbas injuring his rib did not help our cause but good bowling brought us back into the game and eventually we ran out big winners.

Same Twelve for next two games with Dom Kelly coming in if Mo unfit.  After that we may have use of one or two of our 100 players if they are not getting game time.

Same wicket for Sunday. This time, win the toss and bat.

Yeah, I was gutted when that NB was given at the end. No chance to get him on strike for the boundary.

Theoretically could have got zero runs for the rest of the over

Cricket is like the EPL in India - stands to reason these massive clubs want to expand globally and the UK has a decent competitive set up. Short form cricket will continue to grow - not sure they’ll ever crack US though (despite Baseball being dreadfully dull) which is where the cash really is.

Great time to be a limited over specialist - wages will soon be up there with football and it’s not seasonal anymore as there are tournaments everywhere.

Whilst the 100 is an interesting concept aimed at kids, the opportunity in the UK is to throw proper money at the blast and attract the best players in the world. Not sure the ECB have quite understood that oppo yet.

should mean we are cash rich and get high profile oversees, and potentially steal more local talent.

weve got some very good young cricketers coming through so hope we continue to support.

i was listening to commentary the other day and the Somerset ? Commentator commented that we have finally got local players - apparently he once listed all out players and not a single one was from anywhere near Hampshire !!

After seeing what foreign owners did to football, I can’t say I’m a fan of that. If they could at least sort out some decent catering for the one day games, that’s be nice.

We needed the investment if we are to progress as a club. Lancashire and Surrey in particular are able to pay higher wages than we are and it is restricting who we can attract. We need it to bring in good experienced stars to compliment and develop our younger players and win the Championship.

I spoke to the Chairman and past Chairman on this subject at the beginning of the season. It will not change the way the club is run but will help us achieve our ambitions.  As a Gold Debenturer and a  member of the Executive club I am keeping an open mind. Like you I have seen how it has negatively affected football

As for catering the Atrium still caters for all matches and has won awards for its food.  The concessions will not come for the 50 over as the crowd are not enough to justify their cost of having a spot. Likewise the under the stand catering does not take enough to cover costs of staffing.  It is just a fact of life in County Cricket at present.

An interesting step for English cricket, but I think others will follow suit in due course, particularly those with Hundred franchises attached. Will be interesting to see how much input they have, and what changes. I can't remember who owns the Hilton building, but it will be interesting to see if this leads to development of the open sides of the ground now.

I don't think Hampshire Capitals works as a team name, or Southern Capitals...

I hope you're right but suspect that won't turn out to be the case.  We are heading towards an even bigger gulf between the haves and the have nots in the county game.

Like what they are doing here - last year they just threw all the youngsters in with Gubbins. That paid dividends and this year they now have experience - so much so that line up looks very strong and they are clearly confident of winning the trophy and using the likes of Organ, Abbott, Abbas, Brown, Gubbins and Wheatley for extra experience and practice before the last few county games.

It really is an exciting crop of young talent we have, and it’s great to see how they are being managed.
And yes, Whiteley was a massive disappointment and doesn’t seem to have regained any confidence.

I’ll be happy to compete with Surrey TBH.

Has a long chat with Rod Bransgrove during the interval yesterday although I am not at liberty to say what was said other than a deal has been progressing for a few months and not yet finalised. We have had a number of interested parties including some surprise ones but it is important that any investor does so to benefit the cricket and its members. There is also interest in other clubs from parties who have made approaches.  We need the investment if we are to progress the club.

Abbott and Abbas in last year of contract. This is a signing to take us forward.

Can’t imagine we’ll see Holland back either TBH, especially with the likes of Albert, Jack and Kelly doing so well.
