Well we ended up 2nd 17 points behind Surrey.

Had we drawn away to Surrey early in the Season their 16 points would have been 8 each meaning 1 point behind. We were deducted 2 points for slow over rate meaning if the loss and points deduction had not happened we would have won the Championship by 1 point.

Small margins and what ifs but it just shows we are not that far off.

Definitely good news in its present format. You will not believe some of the other interest including Venture Capitalists, Americans etc.

Well done Hants for an excellent championship season. Lets face it Surrey are the Manchester City of cricket, having the most money and the best squad of players and will be very difficult to get above in the championship. We need to keep one senior bowler on next year to lead the attack, will be interesting to see if we do that,or go for two new overseas players, hopefully Currie will come back ready to push on in all 3 formats.

They also have the best home produced players of any county club which is hardly surprising as they have so many top class club sides

True, although the Central Lancashire Leagues have always been strong. Maybe not quite as strong as their 1970s/80s heyday with the proliferation of franchise white ball cricket before many rising stars have even established themselves in their national sides. There was a lot of moans about Jamie Smith’s Test selection in the Midlands and North but he’s been superb, McCullum, Stokes and Key can spot a player as Duncan Fletcher could.

So all in all a good season in the CC. Pity about the rained off first game, might have been a bit closer to Surrey if we'd been able to get more than 8 points there.

Still a bit concerned about the young openers though, rarely do they both score runs at the same time, still I presume Orr will replace one of them for next season and he'll bat further down the order. Perhaps at 3 or 6. Might even have selection problems, wouldn't be a bad thing.
