Barsiem Posted January 28 Posted January 28 https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/james-vince-why-i-quit-red-ball-cricket-and-others-will-follow-1469811 Link confirms what Weston stated above from Vince himself, but the changes the ECB have made also have been part of his thinking. Real shame for Hants and English cricket in general. 2

But he sketches on the real reason for this move in his interview. There’s clearly a financial element as well. Big loss for Hampshire and red ball in 2025 will be a struggle but at the start of the season he is 34, not going to be selected by England again, had the issues with the house. With the PCL moving the window over May-June that’s probably been the biggest factor but after his contribution to Hampshire cricket I can’t feel any ill towards him at all in having a lucrative semi-retirement. Kohler Cadmore at Somerset is a bit younger at 30 though, good summer and Hundred and could easily get into England’s white ball set up. Bit early to be chasing the grotes that badly. No Hampshire follower could think ill of Vince's decision. As for Kohler Cadmore, don't know much about his case but he's without doubt just another sporting personality lured to the Gulf by the apparently excellent facilities and climate. I believe half of tennis's who's who are based there. 1
Lighthouse Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Cracking news on Daws and Abbott, I wonder if this is part of a string of announcements over the next couple of weeks. Would be great to get Nelly back for the T20 if we can and we’ve an obvious need for a multi-format batter.
Toadhall Saint Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Really pleased with Daws and Abbott signing on again.
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Ben Brown named as red-ball captain. He has experience and will play every game barring injury so makes sense. 3
Weston Saint Posted February 6 Posted February 6 (edited) I am told Mo Abbas has gone to Notts. Good luck to him. Great servant for Hants. Edit - club have confirmed. Say it was needed to rebalance the squad. Edited February 6 by Weston Saint 2

Say it was needed to rebalance the squad. Mo is a great lad and very fine bowler but the pace attack needs the age to come down a bit, plus it looks like he’s available for 6 games late season being part of the Pakistan national set up https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/cd64pq1g0vjo 1
Gloucester Saint Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Sonny Baker, our new quick signed from Somerset, has been given an England development contract after impressing Flintoff with his performance on the Lions tour of Australia https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/cn4m9rwm041o Same status as John Turner.
Lighthouse Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Lhuandre Pretorius replaces McDermott as our overseas batsmen for the Hawks. Technically we could have both but you'd imagine we're after a bowler instead.
Andrew Watson Posted Thursday at 17:56 Posted Thursday at 17:56 Stonemans signing a strange one as far as I can see. I guess the fact that he is available for the whole red ball season is a big factor. Does that also mean that we are looking for another bowler as our second overseas signing.

Good player 10 years ago but averaging 34 is less than his age of 37 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/cy05l5x2r2zo
Lighthouse Posted yesterday at 10:30 Posted yesterday at 10:30 Well, we’ve got Aussie all rounder Jack Edward’s for the first couple of months. Looks like he won’t be around for the Blast though.

Given Green and Marsh’s injury records a good spell might get him on their Test radar https://www.cricketworld.com/australian-all-rounder-jack-edwards-signs-for-hampshire/101349.htm Edited yesterday at 10:55 by Gloucester Saint

Barsiem Posted yesterday at 13:56 Posted yesterday at 13:56 If Stoneman can just consistently survive the first 10 overs of an innings he'll be a big improvement for us, even if he does only end up averaging mid 30s

Lords has not been a good batting wicket in domestic cricket recently and he started at Durham, so the average may only be part of the story. His form on proper wickets at Surrey would be a better guide. Remember him defending well for England but the better bowlers tied up him down a bit.
