adrian lord Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Those subs have been effective, but were arguably 5 to 10 minutes too late 2
obelisk Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Wonder what it's like to feel comfortable with a 3-0 half time lead.
stknowle Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 (edited) 17 minutes plus injury time seems like a hell of a long time to hold on when we're only 2 goals up. Edited 30 September, 2023 by stknowle 1 3 1
qwertyell Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Think we've weathered the storm. Leeds haven't looked anything special at all. Hard to believe there was so much hype around Dan James a few years ago. Pace and diving is all he has.
SonicBoom Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Every time we can go wide we play it back inside where it's congested. And everything we can ho forward into space, we turn and pass back into our back four. It's absolutely baffling because it puts us under so much pressure.

I bet you drank Madri until you realised it’s Carling too. Wonderful stream though 2
SaintBobby Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Delighted with the score. Performance has been okay, but not terrific by any means.
NewYorkSaint Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 (edited) Gotta love this place. 3-1 up against a team that barely conceded last few games, and we're still in max neg mode. Live table... we're equal points w Leeds. We've seen glimpses of what the talent we own can do. that's pretty damn cool. for me, Stu Armstrong should be absolute team fixture. And v v happy to see ArmA growing in confidence. All that said no one wd like another Saints goal more than me. LOL Edited 30 September, 2023 by NewYorkSaint 5
Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Stupid and harsh yellow for Charles
adrian lord Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 (edited) Yet another incident where myriad Southampton defenders are lined up perpendicular to the goal in a line passing through the penalty spot, and we nearly concede Edited 30 September, 2023 by adrian lord

Secret Site Agent Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 (edited) Ref has two yellows, one for Saints, one for Leeds. The Leeds one is still in the dressing room. Edited 30 September, 2023 by Secret Site Agent 1
Lighthouse Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Christ, Bree got mugged right off there, lucky to get away with that.
bangkoksaint Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Ball boy needs to stop being so keen to get it back to Leeds
Lee On Solent Saint Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Every time a Leeds player goes down, its s fuckin free kick
obelisk Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Only 5 minutes added. Less than I feared.
West Stand Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 The ref has tried his best to ruin the game, it’s becoming the usual scene!
Secret Site Agent Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 I rekon about 6 mins of injury time REF WILL HAVE 45
Secret Site Agent Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Ref Ref, Georginio's gone down, shouldn't that be a yellow and a free kick?

Sheaf Saint Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 I had completely forgotten what it felt like to go into injury time with a 2 goal cushion and looking fairly comfortable.

Jonnyboy Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Great result after the relegation feel and form of September. Very surprised how poor Leeds were. Hopefully October continues in this vein and we can remount a promotion push.
Secret Site Agent Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 So, In the Battle of the Beards Russel Martin 3 - Daniel Farque 1 So Southampton beat Leeds and the Ref 3-1 1
Thereisonlyonemickychannon Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Battle of the bad Barnets and Martin won. Yippie!!!!!!!!!!! 1
trousers Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Great result. I wonder how many games we'll steer clear of the dogmatic possession philosophy for...? 2
Fan The Flames Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 About time. Still searching for a clean sheet.
northam soul Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Aribo is such a shit traffic cone. 1
Patrick Bateman Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Much better! Loved the more direct pace in the first half - corners still scare me to death, but more of the team looked like they were trying and getting stuck in more too. Well done.
Osvaldorama Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Get in. more direct, worked harder defensively. Maybe Russ has learned some lessons after all 3
Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Superb win. Would have liked at least one goal in the 2nd half to really stick the knife in and the Stoke performance needs to be as good for this to really make a difference.
skintsaint Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Yay 3 points! Lets hope for more of the 1st half performances this season than the 2nd half type.
Raging Bull Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 At least RM is showing he’s prepared to switch philosophies somewhat. Well done all. On a separate note, how frustrating is it to constantly hear the commentary wasn’t great on sky.
Ralph Fastenbüttl Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Notice how much quieter the match threads are when Saints are winning. Wonder if that says anything about this forum? Anyway, good stuff Saints. Let's have a little run of good form to settle the ship now, please x 2
imadirtyurchin Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Good first half. More direct at times, good pressing as a team. Sulemana was really good - skill and awareness. We looked solid. 2nd half not good. Back to slow passing. Less pressing. Didn’t really create anything and kept giving the ball away and putting ourselves under pressure. We do this thing where the defenders hold the ball and invite the press, plays the ball hard to a midfielder who then fires it back even harder at the defender who just passed and is still surrounded by pressing players : requiring that they have an amazing touch to get out of trouble or the ball goes loose. It’s obviously a thing they’ve been told to do - but it’s infuriating. If the midfielder just took a touch and turned we’d be so much better off. Thought aribo looked like he was running through treacle.. so immobile. pleased with three points but lots of work to do.
bpsaint Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 No criticisms from me today, massive result, and one I would love to be a watershed moment for us this season. 1
stknowle Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Well that was SO much better. No stupid obstinate insistence on playing to a fucking system/process and throwing in goals as a consequence. I want to say credit to RM for showing flexibility, but he really should've been showing it before now. That said, he does deserve some credit for the lineup and the subs which were correct and made at the right time. C'mon Russ I really want to like you, keep it up. Whatever, really good win and some top performances today - Sully, AA, KWP, Stu the CB's all really good. Manning had his best game for us too. UTS. 3
The Cat Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Turns out that a lot of people who chat away like they think they know it all don't have a fucking clue. Up the Saints. 1
Saint Matty 76 Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Bednarek - THB looked so solid today. Really happy with that. Sulemana a must start going forward and happy for Smallbone’s goal even if I ultimately thought he was probably our worst performer again. 3
Toadhall Saint Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Good 3 points - ref was from Yorkshire imho.
ScandiSaint Posted 30 September, 2023 Posted 30 September, 2023 Great win. The midfield still worries me though. A decent team would have punished us today. Adams looks rusty but hardly surprising. Hopefully the start of a good run. The quality of the game wasn't the highest was it? Especially good performances from Downes (first half), KWP and Bednarek. Defence looking much more solid. Good kicking from Bazunu too 1
