Just seen this on the news. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-66846772

Whenever I see news about "exciting" archaeological discoveries I just don't get it. Probably why I've also never been particularly interested in the Indianna Jones movies.

Also, Halloween is a crock o' shit.

It's almost as if different human beings like different things... crazy! ;)

Are you one of these people that think humans are separate from the rest of the animal kingdom?

Are you not interested in the history of Homo sapiens, how we got to this point?

Are you not fascinated by the thought that NINE human species walked the Earth 300,000 years ago, and only one remains...us?

For me, these exciting discoveries help paint a fuller picture of our history, fills in the gaps; and every so often, re-writes what we already knew (or thought we knew!)

I'm guessing you still don't agree, but I would strongly recommend reading "Sapiens - A brief history of human kind" by Yuval Noah Harari

I bloody love all that stuff, have done since I was a kid.

Ditto. The concept of infinity blows my mind, as does how far advanced of us (technologically and otherwise )other civilisations might be.

Skiing. People love it but sliding down a hill on 2 bits of wood is so unappealing.

Have you ever tried it, or achieved any level of competency at it? Love skiing; the outdoors, the scenery, the speed, the physical challenge, the skill, the social aspect, the apres ski, the foreign culture, the Norwegian women’s biathlon team, the Swedish women’s biathlon team, the Finnish women’s biathlon team, the Ukrainian women’s biathlon team, the Ital… wait I’m getting side tracked here. You can reduce any sport down to a blunt literal definition, football is just 22 millionaires kicking a bag of air around a field, it’s still enjoyable (at least it is for the fans of 91 FL clubs).

I think these are supposed to be more interesting than exciting. Obviously the true enthusiasts will have a massive horn, but that pretty much goes for any fanatic, from UFC to stamp collecting.

My mate has a theory that humans/life on earth get to the point where they are so advanced they end up destroying themselves and aliens come to earth to start life again. He reckons this explains the pyramids, great wall etc and all the stuff that appears to have been impossible for humans to build like they have. He's fairly normal apart from this.

No, never tried it.  The social side, scenery, fit female skiers, foreign travel is all good, but the actual skiing part I just don't fancy for some reason.

I have a mate who's not dissimilar. His thinking is more like other civilisations are much more advanced than us, they paid us a visit and kindly knocked up the pyramids then buggered off back home. Interesting theory.

It is possible that aliens came to visit Earth 200 million years ago, but as all they found were dinosuars they buggered off again and marked this planet down as a write off.

Direct quote from the OP article.

"The researchers also uncovered ancient wooden tools, including digging sticks. But what excited them most were two pieces of wood found at right angles to each other."

Incredible.

This won't be popular but the fetishisation of food.  Taking photos of your food, making a big deal out of something relatively common place just because it comes from some far flung part of the world,  endless cookery programmes, Jamie Fucking Oliver.  Most of all,  the absolute pretentiousness of anything connected with food these days.

100%. I dont get it. Loads of people do it. There seems to be a lot of people doing food and restaurant reviews on instagram these days too. People with only a hundred or so followers posting pictures of their dinner and then commenting on the place. presumably in the hope that they'll get a free dinner or something but seems very pretentious. Like you say, this seems to be happening with food these days. Loads of minor celebs bringing out cooking books too.
