Awful news. Dave seems like a salt of the earth fella and I really do hope he finds solace and comfort in memories shared and created with his wife. She'll live on in that way and in him.

A friend of mine who knows Dave and Pauline, lives in Romsey, told me of Pauline's passing the day it happened. It's terribly sad. Although football related I didn't post it out of respect for Dave. RIP Pauline.

If I remember correctly when Dave was manager back in 96,  last game of the season we had to win to avoid relegation and his wife was in hospital seriously ill, he steered us to victory and then dashed straight from the dugout to the hospital on the final whistle.

His two great loves in life, his wife and Southampton F C.

Thoughts to the family.

They're both Christians, he knew where she's going and he's drawing peace from that and so is in a good place (from my mate at the church DM goes to). Whatever you think about that sort of thing, in this scenario it can't possibly be a bad thing.

A few years back I often used to bump into Dave and his missus shopping. He would always give a nod of the head and she would smile, seemed a close couple and very genuine people.  Age wont be a comfort here, and he'll be devastated, I hope he has close family and friends for support.  Sincere condolences and all positivity to him, old school Saints through and through.

"He's in good spirits apparently not seen him since pauline passed but ******* has and says hes doing well knows where she's gone and looking forward to seeing her again."

- Text from someone I know at Sholing Baptist who have good links with the church DM attends

Again, I'll reiterate, regardless of what you think about "organised religion" it cannot be a bad thing here.
