StDunko Posted 4 September, 2023 Posted 4 September, 2023 I've just bought the nicest car I've ever had, so thinking of getting a dash-cam, but I know very little about them. Anyone got any advice or guidance?

igsey Posted 5 September, 2023 Posted 5 September, 2023 Nextbase are the best known and easiest, personally I bought a cheap Xiaomi/Yi one from Aliexpress for about £15. You can either have them plugged into a USB port (either dedicated one or a cigarette lighter converter) or wire them in to the fuse box, but that is more involved and if you don't know what you're doing, probably not worth the hassle. Mine is just USB'd into the cigarette lighter with the long cable tucked behind the body panels. Good dash cam > Okay dash cam >>>>>>> No dash cam at all. Even with a cheap one, you can use footage to show you are not at fault even if you can't see the identity of whoever was at fault, which could save you money.
Weston Super Saint Posted 5 September, 2023 Posted 5 September, 2023 I had a cheap one initially but it interfered massively with the DAB signal. Workaround was to get a magnet and put on the wire but thought it safer to get a nextbase!
Fan The Flames Posted 6 September, 2023 Posted 6 September, 2023 I'm going to wait until dash cams are built in, they just look messy, it's like have a nice suit on and clipping your house keys to the belt loop.

I was the same until, when I was stationary at a set of traffic lights, a bus turned across me and ripped the front of my car off. He denied liability, claiming I had driven into him, and it took ages to sort it out. A video camera would have settled it in a day. 3

Ja, I wonder if there is some fear of being sued if someone gets into a crash and the camera isnt working.
