Edmonton Saint Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Worst Saints Debut since Alan Bennett? Can see why Everton were so keen to get rid. Shocking performance. 7
Robbie Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Utterly dreadful performance, every time he gave possession away he rushed to the ball leaving a massive hole at the back. Also had a massive hole in his foot for their 4th. 2
SNSUN Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 I won't write him off after one performance but this was a bloody bad debut. 8
Smirking_Saint Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Im not going to write the guy off but this was dreadful Im not going to lie I watched the training footage mid week where Sully had him on toast and did worry 4
Saint Matty 76 Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Terrible signing before it happened, proved right immediately with one of the worst defensive displays I've seen from a team notorious for them over the past few years. Can't pass, can't defend, fucking stupid. 4
Sheaf Saint Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 What worries me is that he will be expecting game time. He didn't come to us to be backup, and I know Everton have historically included clauses in their loan agreements stating the loaning club must pay X amount each time their man doesn't play. 1
Yorkshire Saint Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 (edited) I will give him time... unless we can activate the 14 day cooling off period 😎 Edited 2 September, 2023 by Yorkshire Saint 5 1

Who cares what he expects. We expected a competent performance and he failed miserably. Hope he stays on the sidelines from now on. Edited 2 September, 2023 by niceandfriendly 2

sfc4prem Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 That was a shite performance. No control at all.

Harry_SFC Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 One of the worst debuts I have ever seen. I said what a poor signing it was and got shot down.
SambaMaverick Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Let's hope we never need him again this season, christ 1
Saint Fan CaM Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Well he certainly makes a mockery out of the belief he’s a Prem player - he doesn’t look good enough for L2! Needs dropping to the bench and shackles placed around his ankles, but we all know RM will give him another chance against Leicester…oh sweet Jesus. 😳 1 1
Convict Colony Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 I will put a cheeky 1000 quid on him being the most improved saints player this season. It can only go up surely ? 1
washsaint Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Should never have been signed - you only have to listen to Everton fans to know he is not a footballer. but he was far from being alone in being utter s***e today. Every player was 1
WestMidSaint Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Truly pathetic debut. No one should write him off based on 1 game, but many more like that and he’ll have a tough job convincing anyone. Mind boggling how bad he was 3
Ralph Fastenbüttl Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 A shocking debut, yes, but you just cannot write a player off after a single performance. It's insane. Let's fucking hope he's got it all out of his system now.
Miltonaggro Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Holgate, shagging the ring of confidence! 1
richardc Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 I wont write him off after one game but I hope I never see him in a Saints shirt again 3 4
Osvaldorama Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 I won’t write him off after one game. Luckily, we saw a load of him as he was in the PL last year. So based on more than just this one game, he is utter shite and not worth playing ever again 2
saintant Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Can only hope he is a little ring-rusty because his display today was abysmal. He looks like someone who believes he's got all the time in the world and can make passes out from the back - on today's showing he needs to get those beliefs out of his head and start putting his foot through the ball.
Whitey Grandad Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 I thought it was crazy when I saw his name in the starting lineup. They looked like a bunch of unfit strangers out there today.
James Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 He was awful. Worst Saints debut for a good while. 3
sambosa75 Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 He’s shit. Reason why Everton were happy to get shot of him.

Dark Munster Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 What’s scary is that Wilcox and co thought he was good enough to bring in. That puts a big question mark over their judgment. 5

No more pressure than he'll be under to play Man City's on loan centreback who was one of the best in the league, alongside our club captain Jack Stephens when fit again. Holgate should immediately be dropped and designated as number 3 CB for the foreseeable. I think there is a player in there somewhere but clearly he ain't at the races right now for whatever reason.

InvictaSaint Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Weirdly he came closest to scoring for us! 🤣🤣🤣
S-Clarke Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 There is a level of bad and then there was that. He's behind everyone, even Charles, for that CB spot now - in my opinion. He's got a lot of work to do to get into the side after that. Thank god we got THB in. 5
wadesmith Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 (edited) When your finest achievement so far is ‘taking the heat off Ali Dia’ then you can assume it’s not been a great debut. Edited 2 September, 2023 by wadesmith 2
stknowle Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Prem experience, rated by literally one of the top managers in Europe of the last decade in Carlo Ancelloti, player of season for Premier League Everton albeit a few years back and whenever he didn’t play for them he was sat in a trailblazing dugout, loved by West Brom fans during his previous sojourn in Championship. A sure fire nailed on hit transfer…….. And then he plays 🤦♂️

Holmes_and_Watson Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Don't forget. Holgate's versatility could bring that level of performance to right back as well. 🙂 1

Dman Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 He was really shite today and doesn't look match fit. I wont blame any of our CBs though - Martin's gungho system leaves them all way too exposed. 1
John Boy Saint Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 I was underwhelmed upon his announcement - thought he looked like he thinks he is too good for this league, more than too casual - plays like that at St Mary’s and he’ll quickly get the message unless there is not much between the ears. 1
St Chalet Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 I saw Alan Bennett’s debut. It couldn’t have been worse. 1

I’ve seen some dross at the back for us over the last 40 years but I reckon this clown has topped the lot. I like Martin but how he allowed this disaster to still be on the pitch after half time to seal the deal with that forth goal calamity is beyond me. Get rid sharpish
saintscottofthenortham Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Easily the worst debut I've ever witnessed. Looked a fish out of water for every second he was on the pitch. It was a fairly obvious result with his reputation at Everton. Given how shite they've been in recent years, for him to be written off from that bunch is quite a thing. Looks a truly abysmal signing.

Holgate fits in ahead of Onuachu and McCarthy, but only just. Really hope he improves with time and familiarity with the system. He certainly needs to to earn a spot on the bench.
