Fortunately I was busy on Sunday afternoon and couldn't follow the game but I now see that Stewart came on on 83 minutes. Any conclusions to be drawn from his brief appearance?

Stewart will just want to get fully fit and play games. He'll have felt all the emotions we can think of, having to go through this. His absence isn't through any lack of e

It's the club's responsibility to make adequate risk assessments when signing players. They clearly thought it was worth the risk.

They've got a duty of care to their employee, to try to get him as fit as they can.

Stewart has to look at his own interests, and the support available to him through us.

Like previous seasons, we shouldn't be building our attack around him being fit, but he will hopefully be that, and give us options next season.

If he's injured for next season, then it's up to all parties to discuss. I have no ill feelings at all towards the player. The opposite, in that I hope he gets fully back.

Perhaps SR would make a different decision next time. That's on them, not Stewart.

I think we had a summer when Beresford, Howells and David Hughes all retired.

To be honest, yes, re-reading your post that is pretty much exactly what you were suggesting.

Then read it again.

I didn't say cancel.

I'm pretty sure I didn't say cancel.

His contract expires in 2026, so next season is absolutely pivotal for him. If his injury problems continue, he will be available on a free, presumably with not much prospect of getting another club. If he can stay (relatively) injury free and start scoring, he has a decent chance of continuing his career somewhere.

All three continued playing after leaving Saints. Their time at Saints didn't end in retirement.

So you're classing David Howells who left us to go and play for

Hartley Wintney, Havant and Waterloville and Guildford City as not retiring? I'd suggest his professional career ended with us.

So you'd also say MLT didn't retire when he left us as he played for Eastleigh and Guernsey?

Not only can you not spot a decent young player, you also fail to notice when an old players career ends.

Another epic fail from MLG.

If you continue to do the job then you haven't retired even if it is at a lower level. Especially when still being paid!

Another Chuckle fail!

Presumably Fat Ronaldo isn't retired then as he recently played a few mins in the Essex League Division 8?

Paid by Paddy Power to appear. So got paid.

Another MLG fail!

Not by the club, so wasn't employed by the club as a footballer. It was a marketing stunt, not a continuation of a career at a much lower level.

"If you continue to do the job then you haven't retired even if it is at a lower level. Especially when still being paid!"

Doing the job at a lower level - tick. Being paid - tick. MLG fail again.

Being a pedantic arsehole and derailing threads is fun. I can see why you do it.

A marketing stunt is not a job or a continuation of a playing career. It is a one-off stunt, paid by a third party.

Talking of fails. How did this pitch go down?

https://community.sports-interactive.com/forums/topic/110025-shouting-instructions/

Will the shouting instructions feature and design a tactic module from Football Manager Live ever going to find its way to FM?

I wondered if advanced speech recognition systems like my iMac has, could be linked with the shouting instruction system from Football Manager Live. So you could literally shout at your team like a real manager on the side of the pitch things like "push up" "get stuck in" 'play wider" "take a break" etc.

WIth such advanced instructions as this, I'm amazed you've never got an actual job in football.

Speech recognition system integration in computer games isn't an idea I made up. It exists in other games! So given that... talk through why you think it is a bad idea?

We are such a shambles at the moment I would't be surprised if we offered the guy an extension if he played a few games between now and the end of the season

frankly whenever he has played he's looked very average - think he had one shot but might be wrong

I don't think he got seriously injured during that short spell on the green stuff is the only one I have.

When he came on in the playoff first leg at the Hawthorns, he immediately improved our attack with some pace and movement, and he came closest to scoring that day with a deflected shot that their keeper did well to save.

Aside from that though, his contributions have been largely forgettable.

Somewhere in the misty lands of SaintsWeb, a troll peered out from beneath a bridge.

Embarrassed from recent outcomes, he spied another innocent, off hand comment crossing above.

This time it would be different! Checking around for those pesky petards that always hoist him, the troll leapt out!

When you have a minute MLG, perhaps you could update the wiki page for us for that year.

Players retired

John Beresford -Retired due to a cruciate ligament injury, later played for several non-league clubs.

David Hughes - Retired due to a knee injury, later worked as a coach and manager.

David Howells -Retired due to a knee injury, later played for several non-league clubs.

Don't forget their individual pages where there are things like

"Howells also represented Southampton, scoring once against Arsenal, and Bristol City before retiring from the game in 2000 due to a persistent knee problem."

Obviously, all the original sources from national newspapers will have to be amended.

Such as this from the Telegraph saying David Howells has finally conceded defeat in his battle against injury and at 32 now plans to retire. Southampton's former Tottenham midfielder has had four operations on his knee but said: "I'm not going to play again. I'll miss the game but in many ways I'm relieved the slog is over."

Don't forget to get Saintsplayer updated. That has things like  the following for David Hughes. "His hopes of contributing to the following season were shattered, in a pre-season friendly at Aldershot, by a knee-injury that forced him to retire a year later."

When you've gone through the papers, and websites getting all the corrections, don't forget to contact the tax office. All of those people who came out of retirement, after retiring, are clearly at it! Their retirement at the employer they retired from clearly wasn't retirement!

Also check in with the insurance companies. All those settlements for players retiring from top level? Why, they could have unretired at non league! That's no retirement at all!

Back under the bridge the troll lamented on why it always turned out this way. He'd certainly been told a thousand times on how to improve. Sadly, as the youth player thread showed, the troll couldn't count past two. So "a thousand" meant nothing to him.

On the bridge above, SaintsWeb went about it's business, while the troll plotted his next, ingenious attack.

A formal announcement will be made but Howells joins fellow Saint John Beresford in premature retirement.

If Sheff Utd blow promotion, unlikely they’ll spend £10m on BBD. Spors has some striker issues - AA will get his game head on next season but not sure Archer or BBD can or will, judging by the latter’s poor recent run at Sheff Utd, and Stewart is Mr Injury. Onachu will be off but as with every other department, a great deal to do in very little time.

If we were coming into the Championship from the other direction with the records at that level of Armstrong, Archer, Brereton, TP and Stewart you'd think things were great. And yet... 🙂

I don't get the pile on on Ross S. He's now fit, in the squad and available. I'm sure he's hated being injured and not able to help the team, especially this season when we needed him. Don't blame him for being bought and bring paid what he is.

I back him to score goals, at least 10 , next season!

What?!?! No one blames him surely? He was still a colossal waste of money on wages, transfer fees, agents fees, and signing on fees.

But that isn't on him.

It wasn’t his fault he was signed with an injury it as the fuckwits who thought it was a good idea

im sure Ross would love nothing more than to be playing every week, you don’t spend your life climbing the ladder only so you can throw yourself off when you get to the top do you.

Not blaming, per se. But there have been some pretty disgraceful comments made towards him personally (cunt, stealing a living etc...). Some from posters who I would have thought would know better as well.
