RIP Sir Michael Parkinson

Sad news today about the passing of another major name from my earlier years. His chat show on Saturday nights was a must watch. Those were the days when he just had interesting people on who just talked about their lives and experiences. No plugging of their latest record, book, film etc. So many classics. Peter Sellers coming on wearing a German helmet, Ali, Helen Mirren and her boobs. Most will remember Rod Hull attacking him with Emu, made even funnier because Parky was clearly very unhappy about it.

LBC had his good friend Dickie Bird on the phone to talk about him this afternoon but he could barely speak for the tears.

A TV and journalistic legend. RIP Parky.

Not really appropriate is it?

What, that Parky asked her if her breats detracted from people's opinions of her acting ?

He’s interviewed some of the most famous people that ever lived, John Lennon, Orson Wells, Bette Davis, James Cagney, Bestie, John Wayne, Fred Astaire, Paul McCartney amongst others, yet Soggy concentrates on a fucking puppet & a pair of tits.

Agree with @Turkish a great talent the likes of which are non existent in todays chat shows. The show wasn’t anywhere near as good when he came back, mainly because the new  “stars” were woeful and it just became part of the circuit. His autobiography is interesting as well, I enjoyed the stories of his old mans beach cricket obsessions every summer holiday.

Why exactly? It is one of his most referred to and now notorious interviews and he himself mentioned it in the programme on his life shown tonight on the BBC. I actually sanitised it. In a subsequent interview with her she recalls him talking about her  “tits” and asking if they got in the way of her trying to be a serious actor. He himself says it was of it’s time but appreciated that looking back through today’s lens it was a sexist question. It is no less appropriate than referring to Peter Sellers dressed as a member of the Gestapo on his show and it is sad that you feel the need to try and point score on a thread about his passing.

You really are a bit of a prick aren't you ?

Should have just posted that on the chorus thread mate...it'll be moved quicker than you say that Parkinson was a legend of our lifetime.

Another thread where the mob wade into SOG 🥱

Parkinson was a TV great, a massive part of our childhood.

A 'Mob' is not one man.

Agreed on the important part of your post.

Master interviewer and an example to some who seem keen to interrupt and disrupt flow of interview for their own quips.

Agree it is a shame that even threads like this can become antagonistic. There was no cause whatsoever to pick up SOG for his post and clear it is because it was SOG who posted.

Was an integral part of Saturday nights growing up in the 1970’s.

MOTD (two matches as highlights and less talk), followed by Parkinson before turning in. Compulsive viewing.

His shows were as good as the guests, and he interviewed some of the biggest names going, most who had something of interest to recount rather than just jawing for the sake of it (or as a promotional tour).
