Our only real big money purchase... Sean Charles ...was distinctly underwhelming, of course he will (hopefully) improve, but not on this showing.

Charles was good in a compromised set up. He was basically a one man midfield.

He'll need to improve positionally because his recovery pace isn't too special, so he probably can't go bombing all over the field, but there's a very promising holding player in there.

Was their goal offside?

Think VAR would have been all over that but happy without it ruining the flow of the game.

We need to be better in midfield but expect this to improve.

I thought it looked offside on the view I've had of it.

How can anyone could think Che was offside?

It's a good omen that a relatively poor team with average performances can grind out 7 pts from these 3 games.

We've won 3pts in injury time and 2pts with 3 minutes to go. We could just as easily be on 2pts right now like Leeds.

Need to kick on with player improvements and incoming players. This streak won't last a season.

We're fortunate, let's not waste it.

I think that will have big bearing on transfers next 2 weeks. Players will want to join us and not struggling Championship side.

Great to win after last season debacle  long may it continue

This is huge I think. Also for keeping the odd player

No - The pundits and everyone in football knows that Bednarek does not mark or follow runners. Therfore it is the next closest player that must take the blame :classic_biggrin: To be fair, Bednarek is pretty good at pointing that out afterwards...

a 2-1 win away from home with our "new look " side-what is there to complain about ?   Well let's not say " complain " but a few observations at least.

We did make hard work of it, and the thought that... IF we do sell Tella and/or Adams .... where will the goals come from?

Good job we had Stuart Armstrong in the start side, he held a lot together.

More discipline is needed ..already 15 yellow cards in the first 3 games, which will likely cause problems when they all total up in a month or so.

Makes you wonder where the pace is coming from if KWP goes too?.  Manning showed some good work, but is easily beaten for pace.

There are still 12 days before the window closes but expect a lot more signings before then, as the bench looked well short of real experience.

You must be on the wind up. His names Shea as well

No, we're not fortunate.

Today we put in a performance with an injury hit squad. Players like A. Armstrong were relentless in going for the three points.

We're currently the highest scorers in the league.

The improvements in set pieces were obvious after a week of our new coach.

It's time to get rid of the hangover negativity from last season.

Time to enjoy this season. It's going to be a good one.

We as fans have a role to play in shifting the mentality of the club. Obviously it mainly comes down to SR, Wilson, Martin and the players, but we can help. We need to convert the Premier League losing mentality from the drain-circling and relegation years into a positive winning mentality.

To be fair, the fans in the ground have been really positive and the support has been great so far. We just need to keep up with that relentless positivity.

I thought we were absolutely quality in the second half. So much more fight & belief than any time last year.

See a few comments here not rating Charles’ performance. You guys should probably start watching a different sport, football is not for you. He was absolutely brilliant today.

Yeah agreed, we weren’t terrible first half but we just weren’t joined up at all, there were too many holes, not enough possession based play and it fekt like we were rushing things

Much much better second half, Shea’s quality and Armas work rate shined through

Manning concerns me a bit, Im not writing him off by any means as on the ball he is very good but he doesn’t seem great defensively and again (not his fault) we’re absolutely powderpuff at defending crosses

Still… 9 shots on target, 2 against.. even playing relatively poorly we’re very creative

Charles looks like a player, and he is a pretty big lad also.

I feel the same but we've been very spoilt with left backs. Bertie was international quality and both KWP and Perraud (when fit) are solid PL standard.

Bree and Manning are Championship standard, and that has come as a bit of a shock to the system.

I suspect Manning is keeping the position warm for Larios or Meghoma. Plus he is an ally for the manager in the dressing room and Martin needs that.

Having said that, he needs to be given a chance, it is still early days.

Great win, don't care how it came about, its a win.

Manning slipped for their goal and wasn’t quick enough to make up the ground to block the cross - fair enough.

The more concerning one was him backing off and backing off which led to their attacker hitting the post. You can’t just keep backing off with the attacker a few yards from goal

You're right, I agree, match going fans have been very good, turning out in big numbers and generally giving positive support even when not in the lead.

Blimey David, you are being g a bit harsh there. He was excellent today, especially considering the booking which could have been a penalty.

What sort of review did you give Steve Williams at Pompey, Graham Baker at home to Blackpool or Matt Oakley at Goodison. Good debut, tidy player.

It absolutely was. His anticipation and desire to get in position or to block shots is woeful. He was responsible for at least 2 of the goals last week. Everyone talking about CB replacements seems to have a blind spot for how poor he is. He must be replaced if we are to achieve promotion.

watch the goal, KwP was with Hardie all the way, until he just stops

Unfortunately, as you say KWP leaves Hardie, but it appears to be premeditated, I think to be taken up by Bernarek, as he enters his “zone” but Bednarek is ball watching and just allows him to get across him and knock it in the goal.

Could be that. If KWP had followed across the near post into JB’s space then there’s another man at the back post completely unmarked.

I agree but unfortunately he isn't getting replaced any time soon. No one more disappointed than me when he turned up again at the backend of last season

KWP loses his man and Stephens utterly fails to defend his front post

The only real way Bednerak is at fault is if KWP verbally passed him off and considering we don’t see JB move his head at all then Id suggest it’s unlikely

We are obviously getting a starting cb in and they will obviously replace bednarek. I'm not too worried about that because it's going to happen.

Quite funny Sky picking up us being called dirty northern bastards today. Not sure we have been called that before 🙂

Did you not go to the games back in league one when we played Plymouth? They called us that then, I think it's hilarious  😂

He’s not a terrible player. Nobody hates him. Relax. But his two errors have directly contributed to two goals, and he didn’t have a great game today. He did put in a few good crosses you’re right. Again, chill, nobody wants him dead.

He (Manning) is/should be under the microscope though because he looks distinctly average thus far.    Just too static for my liking and clearly lacks pace.   Doesn't press or get close to attacking threats and even if he has a narrow role under RM, doesn't show any capacity to bomb forward or overlap.    The only plus side I can see is a sound passing game and a good left foot cross - but not at the level of Perraud's quality in those areas and I'd like to think that Larios has scope to have a bigger impact.

This is right. It all happened quite fast but KWP had to hold back and cover the far post and needed Bednarek to recognise that the player was coming into his area

Great to grind out another late win. We definitely deserved it. Plymouth were really poor. Their passing was dire at points and they panicked like anything at the back when playing out. They had the freedom to waltz through our non existent centre midfield and couldn’t take advantage of it.

Great finish by Tella. Also Bazunu did the business at the end with the high balls in the box.

Their goal was so poor. Manning too slow getting back after the slip, to slow getting across to stop the cross and then no one dealing with the striker’s run across goal to the near post.

There was a theme of being too slow. Too slow to pressure the GK and defenders when then had the ball at their feet and too slow to stop crosses-even at the death.

Think we desperately need a CM or 2 and obviously a CB.

Great we got another win and some momentum with a strong start to build on, but I do think we were lucky to be playing such a poor team.

I didn’t think Plymouth were poor at all. Workmanlike maybe, but they had the better of the first half I’d argue, and never gave up - even after our late goal. They’ll more than hold their own in this division, possibly even an outside bet for the playoffs.

Best kit in the league too…

All in all, even as an Argyle fan, it would be fair to say to you deserved the 3 points.

Our young team gave their all but rushed and panicked in the first half when we had promising positions and made the wrong choices with the ball.

Second half you came out and had cleary been told to be more direct and productive with the ball.  Eventually the pressure you could exert paid off.

I am left with 3 thoughts

1). I think we’ve enough to stay up.
2). The transfer window should shut before the season starts.  Will our competitors have to defend the same forward line as we did?
3). I’m really surprised how critical some of your fans are of your players!

Best of luck for the rest of the season.
