I really like Russel Martin

But don’t think that I can honestly say I’ve noticed any real changes / improvements with the team.  I know we’ve lost a few key players - but still don’t think that would’ve made too much difference apart from maybe a JWP free kick goal today.
Che not been great but pops up & scores

  • Jimmy_D changed the title to Plymouth 1-2 Saints - FT

Much better second half with more intent. Deserved the 3 points overall which is a great achievement given the mifield we had to pick from. Charles really impressed me as did Adam Armstrong. Poachers goal from Che and Baz did what was needed when Plymouth loaded in a few late crosses. We need some bodies in and, if the right ones come in, we'll be a force to be reckoned with. Still too much walking football - we aren't 50 year olds so need to cut that out.

Just now, Yorkshire Saint said:

Well done at the end Gav with those punches. Go and land a 3rd one on Mara for taking a shot and not running the time down.

Couldn't say it any better myself.

Two attempted nutmegs and a pointless 25 yard shot in stoppage time, what a mug. Give his minutes to Ballard.

That’s a great win to be fair, tough place to go especially with no midfield. 2 wins from 3, can’t moan too much at that so far. That being said, we should be winning this league with the resources at our disposal, so let’s see.

A nice convincing home win next weekend to put us on 10 out of 12 to start the season is better than anyone would've hoped for coming in.

Absolutely need the board to put their foot down on Tella, and have Piroe ready to come in immediately if Che goes, which is far more understandable given it being his final year. I'd like us to hold on for the sake of promotion as well, but can't see the team foregoing £12-15m like that.

I don't suppoose that it's worth waiting until the window "slams shut" and RM has his own team is it?

Good win at a promoted side with momentum and a full stadium.

Not the greatest of performances and pretty clear the first team is a couple light in central midfield, at centre back and Che will need replacing if and when he goes, Piroe or someone else. He has helped us hugely with three crucial goals.

Good full debut from Charles to build on. Manning struggling a bit. SAA provided directness and cutting edge, Edozie not playing too badly but need more composure and awareness still. Adam Armstrong an asset at this level and some of the defensive interventions important. Stu did well but balance of midfield is a long way off and needs new faces next week to close some of the gaps with the back four.

With regard to conceding, for the last 3 years, there has been poor application in stopping crosses. The more things change, the more they stay the same in that instance.
