First question:

You have the following made from original songs:

Pompey is full of Pikeys - Using a track from Benny Benassi

Dry Your Eyes Skate - The Streets

Yellow - Coldplay

Shoot The Pompey Scum - Robbie Williams

Rudi Skacel Song - Kaiser Cheifs

Alan Ball - Oasis

Are there any others?

Second question, I have writers block on the following 3 posts if anyone has any imagination?

American Pie - Don Mclean

Long long time ago,
How I still remember,
How that Southampton team would make me smile,
I knew if we have a chance,
We'd get to see Papa Waigo dance,
That made us happy, for a while,
Matt Le Tiss would make players quiver,
Rickie Lambert would always deliver,
The Dell was always on our doorstep,
Now St Mary's, what a side step.

And I remember how I cried,
The day I heard Markus Liebherr died,
It touched us all, deep inside,
A Saint until he died.

So bye bye, we got it over the line, Ings got the ball from Ward-Prowse after it went up high,
The good ole fans sang when it went over the line,
Singing we are Southampton til we die,
We are Southampton til we diiiiieeeee

Do yooou remember how we sang,
When we destroyed Pompey 4 0 at their lane....

Green Day

There is a house, in Southampton,

They call it St Mary's,

Stand alone, many a poor fan,

And God, I know, I'm one.

I cried to my daddy on the telephone how long now,

Til the Saints go up and Skates go down like normal.

But he shadow still remains since relegation, relegation,

THE SAINTS ARE COMING,

THE SAINTS ARE COMING....

(Circa 2005)

Cliff Richard - Mistletoe and Wine

A Pomponian's a Skate, the shadow awaits,
The old is past, there's no new beginnings,
Dreams of living, beyond twenty one,
Oh poor old Pompey, you've come undone.

It's Christmas time,
Valium and wine,
Kids indulging in petty crime,
Dad's on the crack,
And my mum's off her tree,
Christmas is great,
When you come from Pompeeey.

(Circa 1999)

Fair enough, I'll order a taxi.

The obvious ones are:

  • When The Saints Go Marching In - old Christian song/hymn, popularised in 1938 by Louis Armstrong
  • Que Sera - Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, 1955 - popularised by Doris Day in 1956 in the film 'The Man Who Knew Too Much'
    • Obviously now sung by Saints fans as 'Wash your mouth out son, go get your father's gun, etc.
  • When Johnny Comes Marching Home - American civil war song
    • a.k.a. Rickie Lambert, Southampton Goal Machine

But in reality every song we sing was originally something else. I don't think there are many song tunes sung on the terraces that were originally written as football songs, with the exception of Football's Coming Home, World in Motion, etc.
