Villa thrash West Ham 4-1 and are up to fifth, a point behind Liverpool in third.

A year ago they and we were both floundering in the lower parts of the PL. Then they appointed Unai Emery, and we appointed Ankersen's genius pick Nathan F*cking Jones. Now they have a good shot at qualifying for the Europa League, who knows even CL (and with Emery you can't bet against them doing well in the Europa League).

Meanwhile we're fighting to make the championship playoffs with a manager that most Swansea fans were delighted to see the back of.

To be fair, their squad at the time was pretty superior to ours, particularly going forward.

Villa will always have that doubt in their mind that they're not aggressive and front footed enough, having not gone with Jones themselves. 🙂

Yes, but it wasn't that great a difference, and also you can blame SR for not getting a striker that every man, woman and their dog knew we needed. One of the reasons Ralph ended up broken.

I'm not saying we should be flying as high as Villa are now (although with Emery you never know). But it grates seeing two clubs diverge by such a wide margin in one year due to sheer, unadulterated, mind boggling incompetence.

I know he’s a skate but Gary O Neil quite impressive on MNF so far.

Compared to the screeching from the Spitty Scouse on the other side he’s a breath of fresh air.

Wish we were Leicester

defense defense defense.

they give up a half a goal a match.

  • 13 matches, 7 goals allowed.

Saints on the other hand.. give up nearly 2 goals a match.

  • 12 matches, 22 goals allowed

Plymouth with a slender lead over Ipswich.

Could do with them being reigned back in over the next few weeks to have any chance of that 2nd place.

Ipswich seem to be grinding out the wins. Sounds like Plymouth deserve at least a draw today.

He must really have pissed off Dortmund at the end. I watched their last game last season, a win would have won the league and the left him on the bench.

And Southgate will get us to our next tournament SF, bravely lose to the first decent team we play and proclaim how proud he is of the lads for how far we got.

And hopefully walk off into the sunset of international football

Leicester and Ipswich have had ridiculous starts to the season. The automatic spots in the Championship at the end of the season usually average around 2 points per game. They're both well above that mark. Still think Leicester will be off in the distance but you'd imagine that Ipswich will falter at some point. We just need to be close to that 2 points per game mark once we get to the business end of the season

It's funny how Germany and Croatia are considered decent teams when they beat us but not when we beat them.

Germany have not been decent for a while

I'm not normally one that's interested in the Manchester derby but I'm interested to see how Haaland gets on against a centre back pairing of Evans and Maguire.

Maguire is looking good, Evans looks completely lost though.

part of me hopes no one scores, as will have to listen to the awful Peter Drury trying to be all poetic about it

"It was the greatest Nil Nil of all time! One for the history books. Your grandkids will be looking back at this no-score draw with great fondness long after you or I have passed on. One day they will emulate this match in the playground - the day Maguire kept Haaland quiet." Or somesuch thing...

Agree. I wonder how long he spends writing his clearly scripted opening commentary that we have to endure every week. He needs to cut out the flowery words and stick to commentating on what's going on in the game.
