Just watching Man City about to win the title, with the possibility they will retrospectively have it taken from them by sanctions. I do not pretend to understand the ins and outs of ffp, but I get there are a lot of charges to work through, so, why can’t they be charged with say for example, tge ten most serious breeches pending further investigation?

Because they're looking to change the rules retrospectively.

Aston Villa qualify for the champions league. In November 2022 they were 16th with 2 wins all season, they sacked Gerrard and appointed Emery. We were 18th also with two wins we appointed  the self titled best manager in europe.

Not forgetting they were also the team that set the Hassenhuttl downfall in motion by walloping us 4-1 that time (the previous season?)

Too big too fail? There are over 100 charges and they will be fighting every one of them, and no doubt using any influence they can to avoid punishment.

I've not listened to it yet, but the Beeb had a programme tonight about sportswashing of Newcastle and Man City, and the influence they may have on a number of areas, not just football.

They splash a lot of cash into all levels of football which benefits the local area.  No-one wants that to stop.

Don't they have a huge amount more money than us as well?

They are certainly more flush with cash, but I still can't get over how much we wasted in our last PL season. Upwards of £140m.

That should have build a competitive PL team, it couldn't have gone much worse. Shows the mega importance of scouting, getting it wrong at the scale we did equals curtains pretty quickly. Villa bought well with Watkins, Diaby, Bailey, Pau Torres etc. But they added those particular players down the spine of the team for mega money, like 30-40m each - we focused on adding loads of players in the 15-20m region, but funnily enough still added up to similar as Villa. 

We needed to move away from that 10-15m player bracket and spend big on  2 or 3 proven players down the spine, but we didn't. Quality over quantity was certainly what we should have focused on.

Agree - Championship players are fetching £15-£20 million these days - it's how the market has gone. Good Premier League players are double that. The other issue we have with how much money we spent is that we were panic buying a lot of the time.

Go up and we will probably need to spend another £150 million to even compete in the Premier League - and that's what worries me. (I'd still take promotion over not though!)

so Leeds and Norwich are up first.. who is the better matchup for us if we win Friday?

ie: just tell me who to root for tonight.

Norwich are unbeaten against us this season. (4-4, 1-1), whereas we've beaten Leeds both times (3-1, 1-2) and against expectation both times.

That said Leeds have a more threatening attacking line up...

Have a listen to Adam Blackmore's interview with THB. He seems to think his teammates have turned a corner since Leeds and are now mentality monsters. I'd love him to be right.

Got to be this. If we get there, I can’t see us beating Leeds again in the final - they have the ability in that team to click at any moment and us beating them three times in one season feels unlikely.

I thought Norwich looked pretty naff of what I saw on Sunday, they pretty much wasted their chance in my eyes (as Leeds looked equally as crap).

I think quality will see this one through, not sure Norwich have enough to repel Summerville, Gnonto, Rutter at Elland rd - Leeds will be right up for this.

Still think Leeds have had the best attack in the League this season and possibly ever in the Championship and they're showing it tonight. It was a bit blunt over the last few games of the season which is how Ipswich capitalised but on fire they're a real force to be reckoned with. If they win the play offs they are my tip to do best amongst the promoted sides next season.

Norwich's passing has been poor.

Leeds look like a shit version of us, very pedestrian and fortunate that gunn is being so charitable. We're going to walk this, get ready for a miserable season next year...

That's the kind of never say die attitude that's sure to bring us glory. This is the same Leeds who had a chance to make the autos if they got a decent result against relegation threatened QPR but completely bottled it and got thumped 4-0.
