Never saw him play live but when I was living in Plymouth in the late 80's I saw him in the stand watching Argyll in their promotion year. He was very popular down there.

Sad news is this. Great player, and a lovely bloke by all accounts. I've always followed Wednesday's fortunes as they are my dada team and he gave their fans a couple of great seasons before they let him go. He also pissed off Simon Jordan which makes him a great man in my view.

Francis, with his NASL tan, record transfer fee and European success with such a talented Forest team struck me as someone who really had the world at his feet.

It's so sad to hear the news and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
