The transfers of Romeu to Barcelona and Fonte to Braga highlight the increasing number of players who've gone on to play in the Champions League after leaving Saints. Fonte has already for Lille and Romeu did for Chelsea, but both are likely to play in it again this season for their new clubs.

These spring to mind:

Forster for Spurs

Hojbjerg for Spurs

Wanyama for Spurs

Alderweireld for Spurs

Lallana for Liverpool

Clyne for Liverpool

Lovren for Liverpool

Mane for Liverpool

van Dijk for Liverpool

Shaw for Man United

Schneiderlin for Man United

Chambers for Arsenal

Fonte for Lille

Stekelenburg for Ajax

Tadic for Ajax

How many others are there who've played in the Champions League after leaving St Mary's?

the Liverpool v Tottenham 2019 champions league final should be known as the Les Reed final

It contained 9 players either signed or developed by Les Reed, also Kyle Walker-Peters a future Saints player also scouted by Reed was part of the Spurs squad. Along with a manager who Les discovered.

I will probably accept that a statue is a bit too much but a nice blue plaque on the wall of the Atletico Madrid stadium where the match was played would be appropriate.

Plaque will need to include that of the 9 only three were starters and none of the nine scored. That is a typical Saints achievement, bloated squad, none of whom could score in the proverbial brothel.

If Sport Republic have any ambition they'll erect a statue of Les Reed outside of St Marys to provide a bench mark reminder for their lofty ambitions.  So with Ted Bates Itchen and Les Chapel, you could have Adam Blackmore before and after weight loss Kingsland and Northam for inspiration. Get it done Dragan!

Some more obscure ones from the past decade which haven't been listed:

  • Mario Lemina at Galatasary
  • Wesley Hoedt at Lazio
  • Paulo Gazzaniga at Spurs
  • Dani Osvaldo at Porto
  • Rickie Lambert at Liverpool
  • Martin Caceres at Juventus
  • Jeremy Pied at Lille
  • Kevin Danso at Lens (next season)
  • Matt Targett at Newcastle (next season if there's injuries/rotation)

There's also a bunch who have played CL qualifiers inc. Steve de Ridder, Vegard Forren, Moi Elyounoussi (on loan), Jordy Clasie, Eljero Elia, Artur Boruc.
