I went to Exeter City away when we were in league one and stood in the home end. Had a great time.

Not celebrating goals or us winning doesn't sound like a great way to enjoy a football match to me.

The game he was referring to was a game where we won 2-1 away.

But yep, I'm confident we'll have something to celebrate on Friday. 3-2 win.

Last minute winner as well. I was right behind the goal When Lambert scored

and yes I think we’ll win Friday night as well

The correct end I trust?

We'll be fine Friday, but it'll be a tough night - a championship baptism of fire for the players. Manning will be influential I think, and I fancy Armstrong to score a couple.

Slight twist but it only happened to me once and never again. I could not get my usual ticket / entrance in to the Milton (Left side) or anywhere else in the Dell apart from one place when Dodd, Wallace, Rideout, Shearer etc trounced Liverpool 4-1. I was right behind the goal in the archers with Liverpool fans 😅😪 .. can see myself on the VHS 😇 at least I did not miss a game that season !! But never again !!

Think this will potentially be far harder than some are expecting. They're a side with momentum after a cracking season in league 1 (much like us when we got promoted). We're a side that is having to turn around it's recent form and morale upon landing in the championship, with uncertainty over player commitment and trying to learn a new style with a new look 11. Yes we have better quality, and yes they've changed their mananger... But if Wednesday get at us early on I could see this being a very hard game - we are still too soft at the back imo and their fans will jump on anything to create a great atmosphere.

Listening to Total Saints Pod, the Wednesday special guest was quick to kill any chance of momentum due to manager leaving and time to get their replacement manager in. They’ve not added any quality to their team and ticket prices have shot up too. He reckoned it’s the type of crowd that will get on their own teams back if things aren’t going well.

I’m more concerned about our momentum. We are not used to winning games and if we go behind, do we yet have the character and efficiency in the final third to turn it around? Could very much be a tight affair but anything less than 3 points should be a disappointment against one of the favourites to finish dead last.

Very much looking forward to visiting Hillsborough for the first time and hopefully seeing a win!

We started poorly against Bournemouth and managed to level things up after having been 2 down. It would have been very easy to fold, but they didn’t. I know we ended up losing the game but we did demonstrate some grit and fighting spirit.

I listened to TSP as well - more confident of a result now. Would love a JWP trademark free kick as a final thank you if he is going to depart.

Sheffield Wednesday have pissed away their momentum and goodwill and actually something of a shambles right now.

Not really anything like us when we got promoted.

Ipswich are the promotion momentum team, if the bookies are anything to go by.

Really hard to call. Totally depends on the line up. Will RM use players even if he knows they are leaving soon? If he does, we should win as we have plenty of very good players left.

I know nothing of Sheffield Wednesday so cannot comment on how well they might play. But with new manager and no decent new signings that I can see, we really need to be winning this if we are at all serious about top 6 aspirations.

Draw, nailed on at 2-2 as we make too many mistakes at the back still.

If Sheff Wed have watched our preseason they'll be pressing us hard from the kickoff to force a mistake. That might leave them open to a cheeky ball over the top.

Can see us dominating possession and losing 3-1. But I'm going for 3-1 to us.

Plus literally anyone can still buy in our own end at the subsidised price. I meet up with mates often at away games who follow the opposition,  few pints together before and after but never sit together at the actual match that would just feel odd to me

In the Prem even when I had an ST I rarely got the chance to go to away games due to other commitments, but this is a Friday and so it works for me.  I've always wanted to visit Hillsborough and my friend had said when I got the chance to visit he'd arrange for a seat, but of course we didn't expect that to be a Saints vs SW league match and the arrangements were made well before the 2nd release of away tickets.  I'll enjoy the trip and the social part of the visit as the missus will be with me, but hopefully more so with a win!

Surprised there's not been more rumours about ABK being off. Leipzig apparently closing in on a different £30m defender so the only actual link would be seemingly dead with that.

One of those players we should absolutely be making use of whilst he's here, due to the current CB situation. Be great if he's one of the players RM is talking about us holding onto as well.

If Martin picks our strongest team for Friday as things stand now there are going to be some vey disappointed players around the camp by the weekend.

Bazunu

Livramento Bednarek ABK KWP

JWP Lavia

Alcaraz S Armstrong

Tella  A Armstrong

Fresh reports in Italy earlier this evening (I think) about Napoli taking a look at him now.

Exactly. Their form dropped off significantly during the latter part of the season. They blew a sizeable lead at the top of the table and got a little lucky in the playoffs in the end, relying on penalties in both ties, after being 4-0 down against Peterborough from the first leg.

I wouldn't consider them to be the momentum team at all. But I also won't rule them out either. They gave us a game at SMS in the cup last season and we were lucky to beat them on pens in the end. No room for complacency in this match.

Wednesday have only scored 4 in preseason, and in a 3-4-2-1

Line up is very difficult to call, but I have a feeling it will be something along the lines of.

                          Bazunu

Livramento  Stephens Charles Manning

                     Lavia (or) Smallbone

   Tella            JWP  Alcaraz       Edozie

                         Armstrong

They stutter over the line in the end, despite a huge points total for 3rd place. Throw in the new manager effect etc.

Surely, we will win this one?

Anyone know what parking is like around Hillsborough?

Not great. There are a few little places (empty industrial sites etc..) that open up as temporary car parks on match days, but you need to get there early to get a space. There's also an Asda nearby where you can pay to park for a few hours.

You can use the Nunnery Square park and ride on the Parkway (A57) and get a yellow route tram to Leppings Lane, but you'll be waiting a while to get one back after the game cos they fill up quickly and don't run as regularly after 10pm.

If you're looking for free parking, most of the residential roads in Hillsborough and immediately around the ground are for permit holders only. But if you don't mind a bit of a walk you can find plenty of on-street spaces in places like Southey Green or Shirecliffe (either side of Herries Road, to the East of the ground).

Are Hillsborough Park or Owlerton Greyhound stadium worth parking in?

Apparently you can park in the dog track car park for a fiver, but you'll be waiting ages to get out cos it's so close to the ground. Probably the same with Hillsborough Park.

And with the game being Friday night and not finishing til nearly 10pm, if you want to get away ASAP to get back to Southampton then you're better off parking a bit further away.

If JWP and Lavia not in the squad Friday......i presume it will be Smallbone and Charles .

Trams are due to be closed aren't they? Is that yellow route affected?

Oh yeah, I wasn't aware of that but it seems you're right.

Don't anyone plan on using the trams then.

Before the tramlink opened they used to run loads of football special buses up from the city centre , hopefully something like that will be in operation again

The trams will run to Shalesmoor (from the front of the train station i think) then its a 1.4 mile walk to Hillsborough.. about 25 minutes.

Same coming back with replacement buses but it will be chaos and as leppings lane is around the back you will likely be last in the bus queue.

Well, it's actually the back entrance to the station, but yes the blue route trams run from there to Shalesmoor.

And we've only scored 5 of which 2 were against a very poor Reading side.

Ahem...four

50 tickets left, last few will probably go tomorrow. Hopefully get a decent bit of noise going, will need to give it some volume as their lot will be raucous early on first game back up. When we took 5,500 to Sheff Utd a few years back those of us in the upper tier didn't have a clue what the support was like down on the lower, hopefully a bit better togetherness on Friday.
