Rut Posted 13 July, 2023 Share Posted 13 July, 2023 Can't be many? I just know of this one. On about 1.30 he sings 'Head to St. Marys - see the best team on earth. Southampton FC - been a fan since birth.' Anyone know RapperNED? He nails a few things about Southampton pretty well in this song!

sibster Posted 13 July, 2023 Share Posted 13 July, 2023 "Steamroller" by The Family Cat (a 90s indie band that were a lot better than there lack of fame suggests!) contains the lyric "And the saints, are playing at home today". Lead singer Paul Fredericks is a saints fan and regularly performed wearing a retro saints shirt 😁

niceandfriendly Posted 13 July, 2023 Share Posted 13 July, 2023 Coldplay - Us Against The world: And I just want to be there when the lightening strikesAnd the saints go marching in Probably just a reference to the generic song but the drummer is a Saints fan so it might be a proper mention. Let’s count it.

The Cat Posted 13 July, 2023 Share Posted 13 July, 2023 I don't think they have any songs about the football club, but there's a funny ramshackle local punk band called S0dds who have songs which reference stuff in the city. There's one about Annie's Cafe in Woolston, one about the Co-op around the corner and another about crashing their car into Redbridge roundabout. They are very funny live. In a ridiculous turn of events they even had this song played on Radio 1.

They were a massive part of my 6th form years in the early 90s, it was a crying shame that they didn't "make it" along with the likes of Molly Halfhead!

I'm a fan of Saints and Southampton related songs. I have just over 2 hrs worth atm which I start blasting out 2 and a half hours before kick off every game including friendlies for the past 22 year. Neighbours love it. Will upload an example... Edited 13 July, 2023 by Master Bates

The Cat Posted 23 July, 2023 Share Posted 23 July, 2023 @Master Bates I somehow forgot about this, but was reminded of it when I saw him play it live yesterday. Millbrook Road by Sean McGowan. Video filmed in Millbrook too. Sean also has an EP where the front cover was shot on Weston Shore
