Correct ...... Another Mercenary getting his Cut ...........[/QUOTE]

If he had anything to do with the deals for Pulis, Gasmi, Robertson, Smith and Pekhart do you reckon we could get our money back ??

I don't mind if we get paid advice from knowledgable experts but right now we seem to have the wrong ones !!

lets hope Seijs and Molyneux proves more successful than Smith and Holmes who are bloody rubbish IMO.

I have to ask why do we need a middle man?

If Pearson (sorry to go over old ground) had been here couldn't he have been responsible for calling other managers and askign about availability? Yet more money spent.

Why do you need middle men when all you need to do is pick up the phone and ask the rival manager "is your lad available?"

Yes, the Manager likes said player and asks The football Chairman , possible guv?

The Chairman gets a yes or no and so on...But at Saints with Rupert and Michael never there we now have an unknown and unqualified alleged football agent doing the business....It is a made up story, surely.

As somebody said on another thread, how does this chap who nobody seems to have even heard of have such fabulous contacts in English football? Why's he been at Lowe's side at so many matches? What the hell's he doing at Staplewood? Just how much has he been paid, for what services, and is he still receiving money from the club? The club's statement tells us very little indeed. The Dutch article quoted on here suggests that he has a level of involvement and influence way beyond that which a casual 'advisor' might be expected to have.

Now I don't know where the truth lies, but it seems to me that you'd have to be exceptionally trusting to be satisfied with the comments from the club, not least as they've only mentioned him now his name's been brought into the open.

This response probably rtesonates the most with me.

Sure, the Club have finally admitted that we have someone else on the payroll (oops, I meant invoicing us), but IMHO this article asks as many questions as it answers.

Who is he advising? The Chairman or the Manager/Head Coach or both?

Is he responsible for any of the failings we have witnessed this season (poor purchases, poor strategy etc etc etc)

Who does he report to?

What's his full brief?

What's his previous experience and how did we get to use him?

Is he involved in idedntifying our weaknesses and identifying players, or does he just tie up the deals?

Why are we using an intermediary to tie up deals, surely given our financial situation we should be doing this in house?

If he is a mere scout/middle man why is he involved in team management meetings, training and present at all games (in the Director's box)?

I think it's good that we have a start on his role, but he would appear to be doing much more than a normal scout/middle man would do?

Don't think we've been told the full story here, so I'll push my contact at the Club to find out just how deeply he is involved in footballing matters, particularly when the original article has him saying him and Lowe set out the strategy for the Club (which is slightly more than the average scout/middle man does!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Indeed..and if it is correct that the players view him as 'Rupert's Spy' then he's obviously not just a casual worker....

So, is he an agent then? He's not registered as one. According to the club he's an advisor - whatever that means. He's been seen at the training ground, at matches sitting next to Lowe, he's clearly been involved in bringing various players to the club - and probably Poortvliet and Wotte too. He appears to have a high degree of influence around the place.

The problem here is that it's easy to hide behind the "he's not employed by the club, he's just an advisor" story. No need to explain his role or influence, or give details of how much he's been paid and for what. Are you telling me that you simply aren't bothered by all that?

Now, I don't care who cleans the windows at St Mary's, but I certainly do care about the inadequately-explained role of van der Waals. Nice little straw man you built there, though.

You're right, he's not registered in England or Holland

If we are not paying him, then who is? I can't believe an agent (or anyone else) would spend as much time at the club without any form of retainer. It would appear from the independant article in Voetbal International (a well respected publication) that vd Waals has a deal of influence beyond that of an agent or advisor. Lowe & Wilde need to know that another straw has been added to the camel's back!!
