And yet somehow the number of goals we conceded went up from 1.3 to 1.8 per game, in the 5 games after Bazunu got injured.

It's almost as if none of our GK options were actually very good.

The Leicester result skews a far smaller sample. And look at the outcomes in the play offs themselves plus we only conceded one at Elland the game before.

To think that even other struggling Saints sides have had the likes of Flowers and Niemi in goal. Keeper recruitment has been crap for about 10 years now.

Even Ian Andrews managed a to make a few decent saves from time to time.

He played the major part of a season that saw us promoted.

Correct, we have our Wembley memory thanks to Baz, a great day. Without Baz we wouldn’t have had that …we’d have been up automatically already….

If he becomes our first choice again next season, this will sadly confirm to me that as a club we have absolutely no idea what we are doing.

He has been a pet project since day 1, just because he can play with the football. There are other fundamental attributes to goalkeepers

Whenever I've watched him I've always seen an outfield player in goal, he has all the attributes of an outfield player but absolutely none of the attributes required to be a competent goalkeeper.

His loan to Standard was an opportunity, but he has been doing exactly the same over there. Letting in pretty much any shot on target.

If he's number 1 then Spors and whoever the new manager is are equally as clueless as all who went before. This position is a key decision that will show where we're heading.

I haven't given up home that we keep ramsdale. As mad as it sounds, I think financially we aren't too badly off re relegation. Profit last season, likely a profit this season. And a rebalanced squad with almost certain relegation wage clauses in them.

Surely the only way we sell ramsdale is if it's considered to be worth it by the club? Which means we get a good slab of profit, and we have a goalkeeper considered both good enough for the champ and who can step up to the prem.

Or, he has a relegation clause in his contract.

I hope this the case. Keeping him would be a start to having a team that can stay up. Just need to look at 8 or 9 of the others for next time.

Bah! I didn't get time to enjoy Saint86's post at all. 🙂

Please don’t tell me that you believe that we’d have got automatic promotion with McCarthy in goal all season?

There is a slight chance we may not lose Aaron entirely.

1. We make him best paid player in the Championship. And keep him at high EPL level salary or simply a one year bonus.  Remove any financial reason for him to leave basically. Offer him a £5m bonus if we get promoted and EPL wages. Fuck differentials with rest of squad he’s a top gk.

2. OR a bit more longwinded - He might be offered an extended contract - then allowed to be loaned to Chelsea ( or similar European football playing team) for example in order to satisfy his top level playing and International aspirations for next season.

This would mean his family could stay in the South and were we to get promoted at first opportunity he’d be able to come back to us and a part of the world him and family feel most comfortable with. Or sold to Chelsea for massive fee.

Don’t see either myself and it’d be clutching at straws but good goalies like him are rare so I’d do pretty much anything to somehow keep him on board. Financially I think point 1. Is arguable. We can spend £12m including wages on a new gk who may or may not be any good - or basically pay what it takes to keep a gk we know will be best in the league from Day One. No brainer for SR imo. IF they can think in that pragmatic way.

Honestly think we will start next season with Bazunu as first keeper🫣. Maby panic buy someone in January if he sucks.

He will and if he is Saints will be in Div 1 the following season 😄

If no one can see he isn't good enough then it a very sad state of affairs.  Saving shots is  fundamental part of your skill set as a keeper. He could pass like KDB but if he can't save a shot forget it .
