Wow. I don't remember that. Was it part of the Premiership rebranding/promotion etc?

Yes i think so, I remember it because the singer of CKTC lifted up his top towards the Milton as they walked off and had a Chelsea shirt on underneath

My goodness I must have missed that game, would have remembered. Hopefully they were straightened out by Hurlock and co. as they left the pitch!

was that the game Dion Dublin scored the winner?

it was a Sky first for something, wasn't it?

Think it was the first televised evening Prem league game or something. I remember it for Sky hanging massive speakers from the stands to try and deafen the crowd, and CKTC getting drowned out on live tv by the whole ground singing 'who the fucking hell are you' at full volume😂

Yes think it was their first television monday night game. There was a lot of interest as in the early 90s as you know live game on TV were a rare thing. Even when came in Sky i think only used to show one or two a weekend at the start, usually the big clubs. There were fireworks and think they had cheerleaders for a while. A stage was put up at half time and Curiosity killed the cat mimed along. It was a bit shit in hidsight.

That just made me think back 30 years (!!) selling my wares around East Anglia on a monthly run. Premier Inns had just started popping up all over the place offering something better than Travelodge with the attached Little Chefs. They became very popular very quickly with travelling Reps. A new one opened just outside Ipswich and the manager clocked on to a whole load of many solo blokes who would eat and just head back to their rooms, so spending bobbins in the bar. He managed to get the novelty of  Sky Sports Monday Night Football running into the bar area TV, and until Sky started stupid priced business subscriptions, it broke the monotony of travelling on your own, staring at the 4 walls of your room - Monday nights away in Suffolk suddenly became less mundane, everyone was on a similar Milk Round so it became quite a social event............until Sky killed the magic.

Something I have always wondered, being a bit too young for early Premiership years, what was the general mood like amongst football fans about the rebranding of the league etc?

Was there a positive sense about the changes etc? Or more of a sceptical attitude?

Can't speak for everyone but for me, because there was still promotion and relegation it was a case of new name same old shit. It took a few seasons for the money to really start making a difference.

In general, English football was on a bit of a high in the years after the 1990 World Cup and there was a much more positive feel about the game compared to the 80s. From my point of view, I don't think the early years of the Prem/Sky changed anything much. There were lots of adverts for the Prem, but the presentation (like the cheerleaders and bands on the pitch) was pretty tacky and most fans didn't give a shit about that sort of thing anyway. Other than that, we were watching exactly the same thing in 1992 as we were in 1991. Not sure many people had Sky dishes in the early years, I certainly didn't, so the only thing that changed was there was football shown in the pub, which obviously worked really well. In the end, it was the huge ramp up of money from the mid-nighties onwards (enabling the signing of oversees stars) and the need to modernise the stadiums for Euro 96 that really got things moving. As other leagues struggled for money, suddenly we were flush. With better players signed there was a `product' to sell, but you'd never have imagined how it would become back in 1992.
