Who honestly cares?

Even if the Harlem Globetrotters came to town, it'd still be shit to watch as all pre-season friendlies are.

Why is it a problem if we're playing Bournemouth?

Quite odd that you need to ask that question. Clue: it's not at all about entertainment or being "shit to watch". No one gives a fuck about that.

I don't see any point in giving a lovely gloating opportunity to the fans of a club that see us as their local rivals. Why not set up a friendly against, you know, any other club in Britain.

The fact we have to say how stupid it is giving ammo to Bournemouth fans.

The people running our club, day by passing day, are showing that they haven't got a fucking clue.

Crying about it being embarrassing is giving ammo to Bournemouth fans, you're right.

If they truly aren't our rivals, then it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure what they've got to brag about anyway, it's not like we're going to be lording our superior status over Reading when we go up there.

It is embarrassing, I don't care how it's dressed up. To think thirty odd years ago they were rattling buckets to save themselves when we played friendlies there. As stated above SR have no concept of the fan base and how this kind of shit makes us feel as fans. I get we are Championship now, I have no problem with that, but we are acting like a League two club with this kind of bollocks.

Let me tell you a story about when we played the Cherries just a couple of months ago.

They beat us at St Mary's to great delight of their travelling fans , walking back to the station the group in front of me giving it the big one  "oh when the Saints go championship" and "scummers get battered everywhere they go", barging into normal Saints fans who were  just making their way home.

Seemed like they'd attracted the attention they wanted later as saw a few of them getting chased by Saints up by the civic centre.

Just hassle we could do without.

What a tinderbox atmosphere that will be with all that simmering resentment from the last time we played them ten years ago

Yes but as long as we say they're not our rivals that stuff "shouldn't be a problem", or something 🙄

Benfica still listing a game with Saints at St George's Park on 12 July.

Never been, is there any sort of mini stadium there, or is this just a closed-doors, training ground, practice match thing?

It's behind closed doors venue, seems strange Saints not mentioning it.

What an absolute bunch of fannies whinging about playing Bournemouth. 😂

My favourite was someone suggesting that it could be counter-productive for Martin, as he needs the fans on side early and losing to Bournemouth (who are a league above us anyway) in a meaningless warm up game could cause issues with his relationship with the fans 😂

Still awaiting the top European team for the home friendly. Probably be West Ham.

My understanding is the home side often pay an appearance fee to the away team (probably based on expected ticket sales + benefit to their players of having the fixture) , I doubt Saints will want to pay much , most likely a unfashionable name with agreement to share some gate receipts (after costs)

In some ways the Bournemouth game makes sense as they have no travel or hotel costs and unlikely to command much of a fee, will add a couple of thousand to what will likely be a small crowd

Who honestly gives a toss about us playing Bournemouth in a friendly? Seriously? 😂

Grow up.

If you get that worked up about a seaside town playing us for a half-arsed game where it’ll clearly be a mixture of B team players and first teamers, then you probably need to have a look in the mirror and give your head a wobble.

FFS, season hasn’t even started yet and a game affected by trains.

Was going to say they've opened a new train station a bit nearer the ground that's on the Basingstoke to Reading line , not much use if there's no trains though

It’s a forum people are entitled to their opinion isn’t that your mantra on here?

That or the club is determined/agreed to keep certain players

Or.... If we haven't agreed to sell the players yet, then they will be under contract with us and obliged to turn up to training.

Reading any sort of intent because footballers turned up to the training ground on the first day of pre-season training is mental.

“Men return to work”. Shock! 😅

Jokes aside, some of the early content that has been released has been nice to see.

I’m sure they’ll be a lot of faces that go over the coming weeks.

Russell Martin interview was very good too. Just hope that he is backed by the refreshed structure of the board.

Galleries are up on the main site. Not a lot of note - although Walker-Peters has made some poor decisions in respect to his hair. Everyone's turned up, more or less. Didn't see Perraud. Can't remember what his injury was at the end of last season. Maybe a bad one?

The B team returned to training as well - and it looked like Diamond Edwards was taking a full part, which is a boost for the lad after he did his ACL not long after making his first team debut last season.

Olaigbe was there too - I thought he'd joined someone else. I guess not. Yet.

Rail strike on Reading game day for anyone thinking of going by train.

They've given us the whole end which holds about 4300 , first half of that sold already today on first day of sales so looks like we'll have a good turnout up there

I believe Perraud fractured his ankle.

Shame they stopped the film when they did as Adams and AA approached the entrance.

Would have been interesting to see which one hit the door frame, and which one went face first into the glass screen next to it.

Looks like Ballard, Doyle, Dibling, Amo-Ameyaw, and Meghoma are taking a full part in the first team pre season. So far.

Need to get Doyle signed up, think his deal expires next summer.

Decent level opponent (European semi finalists) might bring over a few fans as well, definitely more interesting than the Bournemouth game.

Prices seem a bit steep though, £10 to take a kid along , make it £1 encourage a few more

I quite often go to Reading with a Boro supporting mate, we normally park at the Holiday Inn, have a beer and a bite to eat there before walking to the ground, about 10-15 minutes.
