Mara really not impressing so far in pre season

Agree - he was very poor in the 40 minutes he played before being withdrawn. First touch often too heavy.

Yes, just came on here to say the same. Pretty poor showing really.

Yeah thought he might kick on this year but Id rather see Edozie, Ameyaw given a crack of the whip

We do have an abundance of decent wide men

Amo-Ameyaw, I’m very interested to watch him again. Is he a surprise replacement for Sulemana?

Has looked very good so far

Smallbone has not been too bad to be fair, but I’m not sure he’s a good pairing with JWP.

Yeah agree with this, if anything we’re missing a proper 6 (or number 4 in old money) on this showing, don’t think that’s really Smallbone’s game. Will be good to see how Charles gets on, although Martin may not make subs for a while yet, as against Goztepe.

Armstrong and Smallbone have been all over the pitch and seem to fit this system well. Mara has been very disappointing. These cheap goals we concede every game need to stop.

I guess him being hauled off on 40 minutes is a sign of dissatisfaction?

Injury I think. He was down beforehand

Really good showing from Saints. Mara the only one who really hasn't been very good. Starting to think he isn't gonna come good either. Some flowing football and we're seeing possession football with an actual purpose. I know it's against a L1 team (managed by Ruben Selles no less) but probably the best half of football I've seen Saints play for months and if we can moan about a poor performance against the Portugese champions, I see no reason why we can't be happy with a good performance against a League One team.

Side note; I hear Selles came over and clapped Saints fans who clapped him back. Nice to see there's no bad feeling on either side

Charles is the No.6, but like this season it highlights our need to have someone else who can play there

Very very impressed with both Smallbone and Armstrong.

Alcaraz quiet.

I wasn’t that pleased with Arma… he is making some good runs and is busy but his passing, hold up is poor

Based on this performance we'll have won the league by Christmas

How many of this side will still be here at Christmas?

How are we playing, any stand outs and what is the score?

We're really crisp. Making lots of chances. 3-1 up

Playing brilliantly. League One opposition or not, this is very encouraging.

Evident style coming through?

Move the ball quickly. Receive in tight spaces. Alcaraz as a ten with two wingers.

KWP playing in the middle? Almost like he's in a #6.

He did that a lot against Goztepe, basically the Zinchenko role, step into midfield when in posession and up the pitch.
