Firstly, allow me to introduce myself. I'm a 70 year old Coventry City fan, but have massive affection for the Saints. Why? Well, I spent 8 happy years living on the Isle of Wight until moving back to the Midlands 5 years ago. During my time on the IoW, I met many Saints fans (as well as  - ahem - Pompey!), and as the Saints were my 'local' team, I always followed their fortunes. Believe me, I was as sick as anyone to see their demise finalise a while ago.

Many years ago, I was a steward at Highfield Rd (CCFC's old stadium), and well remember some great old tussles between City and Saints.

My two favourite players for the Saints were Mick Channon and (Super) Matt LeTissier, a player who should have gained more England caps in my opinion! He was outstanding!

Anyway, what I really wanted to say is, I know relegation is hard to accept. Cov have been there a few times since dropping out of the Premier League! But believe me, the Championship is a tough league, but I have every confidence that the Saints will bounce back!

We (CCFC) have the play-off final against Luton on Saturday, and about 90% of us think we'll win, but I won't be happy until the final whistle! But if we fail in our bid to get back to the Premier League, I will look forward so much to playing the Saints yet again!

All I'll say now is, keep the faith! Don't feel down-hearted about the Championship, and get Southampton FC back to where I believe you belong! YOU CAN DO IT!

All the best,

BazCov

Wow, this is going to bring back some memories for some people! I remember in 90s I used to be so jealous of Cov, signing players like Hadji, Hartson and Huckerby.

They always seemed to me like direct competition, such is the similar sidings of the clubs and the perennial relegation battles with them.

I think there’s a lot of people on here who wish Coventry all the best on Saturday and of course, delighted that you’ve now got out of there stranglehold of SISU and are truly on the way back up, whatever happens.

Good luck with everything Baz and hopefully we’ll see you in a year or so, in the top division.

Always had a soft spot for Coventry starting with the shared innovative admiral kits in the 1970s (Leicester, SFC and CCFC were the teams on the posters), and that side with Terry Yorath and Ian Wallace, then likes of Hateley and Bennett. A sad time when you looked sunk a few years ago and genuinely good to see you on the up again.

I also have a soft spot for Coventry. The whole country seemed to support you in the  1987 Cup final and I remember  celebrating when you won. I went to the Charity Shield later that year along with a Coventry supporting mate.

My only problem is that my recently acquired stepson is a Coventry supporter of the worst kind. Too young to remember the 1987 cup final he is convinced that Coventry won the League in the 1980's . If you play us next season and win he will be an unbearable dickhead so I hope that you win the final and enjoy the Premier League.

I completely understand! Similar thing with me. One of my daughters married a Brummie. My grandson is now a bloody Villa supporter! Yet they all live in Coventry! Poor kid has to face his mates at school, wearing a bloody Villa top!

Anyone go to the away game 25 + years ago wham the Two Tone Collective were playing in the stands (Specials, Selector and someone else, maybe the Beat, as a combination), I'll never forget that. The whole stand dancing at half time!

Reminds me of the Saints Cov love in when we got promoted to the prem and cov got relegated.

That was quite an emotional day - last game of the season. Great pitch invasion with my little lad who is now a large hairy arsed saints supporting lad

Well, we didn't make promotion as some of you have gathered. Looks like we'll be meeting up again in the coming season. Personally, I can't wait for those fixtures! Should be crackers!

Much love to you all and see you soon! xxxx

Thank you Baz. My son asked me why I wanted Coventry to win so much today and I told him that your supporters have been through so much misery over the last two decades that I was rooting for you lot.

One of my earliest memories was that extraordinary game in the eighties.

Having been a resident of Coventry between 2002-2014 I was really wanting you to go up today. So many friends were there at Wembley today.

Since I went to Coventry in 2002 for University I wanted us to be playing each other in the top flight. The wait continues.

Was that the 5 v 5 or the other 10 goal game ?

Only went to Highfield Road once, sometime in the nineties I think. We literally pulled up to the ground and it came across on the radio (pre mobile time kids) that the game was called off. Fuming we were. Ended up going to watch Walsall v Brighton (in the away end).

Shame you lost yesterday.

Believe me, it could be worse, one of my grandsons is a Man Utd fan 😬

That was an absolute cracker - Friday night just before Xmas. Jo Tessem scored in a 1-1 draw. I pulled my back in a service station toilet on the way up (not what you’re thinking you smutty lot - I lent awkwardly over a sink!) so was in agony most of the game. The music really cheered me up!
