Southampton are set to hire Aberdeen’s Darren Mowbray as their new head of recruitment.

The club have been talking to candidates over the vacancy over the last few months and have landed on former Burnley man Mowbray.

Mowbray, who has been at the Scottish club since the summer of 2021, has also held senior roles at Leeds United and Middlesbrough.

Mowbray will replace Joe Shields, who left the club for Chelsea in October.

Jason Wilcox, who will join officially from Manchester City in the coming weeks, will oversee the football department and work above the manager.

Sport Republic co-founder Rasmus Ankersen led recruitment in January with the club opting to wait for the right candidate this summer.

Southampton will play next season in the Championship after their relegation was confirmed last weekend.

They complete their Premier League season with games against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday and next weekend against Liverpool.

Can’t decide whether this makes Tony more or less likely to be coming too

I trust they are in no way akin to other famous brothers? Like, ummmm, I dunno.......the Schofields?

Immediate comment from a guy in my team who is an avid Aberdeen fan.

Good move by Saints. He's responsible for signing Duk ('absolutely brilliant'), Miovski ('had a great season; linked with Southampton a few months back') and Ramadani ('very solid'). Says they're 3 of the best signings in years.

Was Burnley's HoR from Jan '17 window until Jan '21. Signings were almost exclusively British and 25+, seemingly the opposite of Southampton and Ankersen's approach?

- Ben Gibson (25) £16m

- Chris Wood (25) £16m

- Robbie Brady (25) £15m

- Matej Vydra (26) £12m

- Josh Brownhill (24) £10m

- Jay Rod (29) £10m

- Jack Cork (28) £9m

- Nahki Wells (27) £5m

- Ashley Westwood (26) £5m

- Jon Walters (33) £2m

- Bailey Peacock-Farrell (22) £2m

- Aaron Lennon (30) £1m

- Dale Stephens (31) £1m

- Phil Bardsley (32) £1m

- Erik Pieters (30) £1m

- Peter Crouuch (38) £0m

- Charlie Taylor (23) £0m

I've also heard that a third brother, Melton, is taking over the catering.  Famous for his crimped crust.  Nepotism rife at SMS!

Think your telling porkies mate..

And so it begins…

Luis Lopes, also known as Duk, has scored 18 goals from 40 appearances, earning interest from a number of clubs in the process.

The man who brought Duk to the Scottish side, Darren Mowbray, is also set to join St. Mary’s, meaning a reunion is now gathering real momentum.

Someone doing well in the Scottish Prem is a good indicator for the level we may need so I'd like Duk.

Hopefully he can quack on and keep on scoring for us

Since our current strikers waddle around like a aqua avian out of water, I'm hoping this guy fits the bill.

Something about this lad, a genuine penalty area poacher - the hits reel starts slowly but stick with it.  Have a look at the obscene backheel goal at about 1:35, followed by another cracker close in on goal.  Could do very well in the Championship - https://www.google.com/search?q=luis+lopez+aberdeen&source=lmns&tbm=vid&bih=880&biw=1920&rlz=1C1CHBF_en-GBGB874GB874&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjmh7PDgIn_AhVTnCcCHUe5A9QQ_AUoBHoECAEQBA#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:8e4ba870,vid:ewQiw66I_Jk

Can’t believe the add-on rumour about Duk. Let’s face it, we’ll be ripping up the Championship with our current strikers Che, Armstrong and Tall Paul - they’ve all got good pedigree at that level.  If they can remember how to score that is…it’s been a long time. 🤣 I mean look how good they were against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday etc….err…oh.
