Hm...from someone with 25 posts to their name.

Just because somebody doesn't post much doesn't mean they don't know what's going on. More posts doesn't make someone more trustworthy, just look at some of the people on here who post all the time if you want proof

I really wanted RM to succeed on the PL after what he achieved last season with us. I will forever be grateful for the amazing day out at Wembley in May with the Play-Off final win. We needed to make a change as things haven't improved in recent weeks. I wish him well.

Good news, had to happen. Once again though as with Ralph they’ve left it too long to make a difference this season.

Cooper would likely get us up, and could begin building for next season, however would he just end up getting sacked after promotion as he did with Leicester and see us back to square one?

Does anyone trust SR to get the next appointment right? If there was an xG equivalent on decision making they'd be Frankie Bennett.

They are dumb enough to take a look at the available manager list and go, "hold on, this Martin fella looks good, promotion on his CV!".

Obviously SR with Mr Football will want to keep the same style of play.

But Pep has just come out with "I am not good enough."

Could we see a switch to Mourinho, who wants a club at the bottom of the PL? Would we accept that style of play after the giddy heights of this season?

He was given more than a decent chance to show what he could do in the Prem so have no problems with this decision - if anything a month or two too late.  We wont survive now no matter who comes in - it's all about getting some pride back into this football club before the start of next season.

If they'd have had the nous and strength  to have done it after ten games maximum we'd have had real shot at staying up with the right person! now it's just a matter of waiting till we are officially mathematically relegated

Russell Martin’s revolutionary Tantric Soccer was poised to change the world of football, but unfortunately, the world—well, Southampton FC, specifically—wasn’t ready for his genius. While most managers strive for victories, Martin focused on creating a slow, deliberate build-up, playing with the ball like it was a delicate piece of art, and never finishing. It was a football philosophy that teased, tantalized, and—ultimately—left everyone wanting more, but never quite delivering. Fans would cheer as Southampton strung together 40-minute passing sequences, only for the ball to be gently crossed into the keeper’s hands, leaving them in a perpetual state of longing. It was a football experience that had never been seen before, a zen-like flow that demanded patience and a deep understanding of the art of the game.

Unfortunately, it seems that the patience required for Tantric Soccer is not something the club or its supporters had in abundance. Despite the beauty of the buildup, the board began to grow restless, and fans began to wonder if they'd ever see a ball hit the back of the net again. Even with Martin’s insistence that true brilliance lies in the journey, not the destination, Southampton’s executives—who, let's face it, prefer a more straightforward approach to football—couldn't cope with the magnificence of his vision.

In a tearful farewell press conference, Martin shrugged off the sacking with typical calmness, sipping a carrot juice as he said, “Sometimes you need to let things breathe. A goal will come when it’s ready.” But the club, desperate for points, could no longer wait for the "perfect moment." And so, Russell Martin was shown the door, his Tantric Soccer deemed too avant-garde for the modern football world. Southampton fans may have to wait a little longer for enlightenment, but for now, their club will go back to playing regular football. As for Martin, he’s rumored to be in talks with a few lower-league teams who share his vision—but for now, he’ll probably be too busy making a mean tempeh stir-fry to care.

Dear Mr. Solak,

Now that (months too late) your board has finally got rid of yet another manager disaster, I implore you to ask Mr. Ankersen to come up with a list of recommended replacements as soon as possible.

Then please hire a DoF, hand him Rasmus's list, and instruct him to not consider any of them.

Love,
Saints Fans

Forest despite the 21 players they signed were way more competitive first season up. Understand some reservations after the Leicester experience but he’s damaged with a point to prove and an arrogant, we always know best Southampton Football Club have just had their nose firmly rubbed in their own mess with fans pouring out of stadium 25 minutes in being broadcast all over the world. It could work. Both parties humbled with a lot to prove.

But Rohl’s football is what I like. Not sure I’d leave Weds right now if I were him. We will see.

Swansea fan here, watching your game as my lads won't be on till tomorrow. So I'll give you the opinion of someone who spent far too long enduring Russball and 'the process'.

Never was a fan of RM, he seemed nice enough but he's far better at self promotion than football management and I couldn't believe you guys came in for him. The longer he spent at Swansea coaching his tactics into the team, the worse we got. He's absolutely smitten with possession regardless of the end result, and he's obssessed with a passing triangle between keeper and the center backs....even when they are under intense pressure. This obsession leaked tons and tons of goals for Swansea and any competent poacher will be licking their lips if they play against a RM team. We went about 20 games without a win due to his crazy 'piss about dangerously at the back' tactics and only when he changed out of that did we get wins (he went straight back to it once his job was safe).

I'll never forget him for the double he gave us over Cardiff and then another one the season after xD, but he won't be missed. Don't think that just because the Saints squad is significantly higher quality than the Swans squad and most of the championship that you are immune to his anti-tactics. Given enough time he'll give you the worst defensive record in the league.

At least you'll smash us when we play, we are proper shite now.

This is what I said when you guys ended up with him.

To this day I believe you got promoted despite RM and not because of him. It seems to have played out as I exected, just took a bit longer. The guy's a fucking charlatan and self propagandist with no concept of owning a mistake. Given enough  time, he'll put any team at the bottom of a league but boast about 70% possession every damn game. Good luck with the rest of the season, and if worst comes to worst I'll look forward to our teams playing in the champs next season. I've always been partial to a real Saints game.

Don't let the cunts sell Dibling for pennies !

I'm just glad he's gone! But fuck me the sentence too little too late has never rung truer!

Not only too late for SFC this season, but also prolonged the damage to Martin’s coaching reputation and credibility.    It will be interesting to see what change, if any, occurs within the SR structure.   Very relieved he has belatedly been replaced.

Pretty surprised it’s happened so soon after the game and not with the obligatory Monday morning corner flag post. Wonder if Russ had been given a win or you’re out ultimatum.

As someone else said that announcement from the club was not a quick 5 minute statement written out on a fag packet.

It was decided before or during the game - we were enquiring about a few managers literally 20 minutes into the game - my friend is in Dubai on holiday and has had it cut rather short...

The Board members on front row of directors box took some time to return to their seats in second half.  The are close to my seat, and we suspected this meant a meeting was happening

Yeah, fair point. My scepticism was based on a feeling that SR was going to stubbornly stick with RM. His legacy is the fact that he got us promoted so credit to him for that but SR should have acted much sooner based on results and performances and that would have limited some of the damage. Now they somehow need to clear up the mess they've made but I doubt many of us have much confidence in them judging by the way they've handled things almost from day one.

That surprise me. Oh well Thanks RM for the WBA home game and Wembley final win which was best Saints atmosphere. Can't see anyone big coming to Saints. Probably some 3rd div French or Belgium manager or the Wolves bloke. I think 10 points adrift is too much to make up, so any new manager will be championship standard to work on promotion.

Some of them really didn’t look that bothered. Or were so baffled by what we were trying to do that it made them look as though they weren’t bothered.

I thought last season was about par given our squad, with a great semi final Playoff performance and a decent effort in the final in which we had a big and perfectly timed slice of luck. In the end he gave us a great day at Wembley.

But his system/ tactics/ squad have failed almost every test this season, and this is, I’m afraid, well overdue.
That was the worst 45 minute performance I can remember, and was completely inexcusable.
