SaintRobbie Posted 4 December, 2024 Posted 4 December, 2024 Don’t post much these days but enough is enough. Russel Martin’s inflexible philosophy of continuing with the same plan (play out from the back) week in week out without any consistent goal scorers to hit more than you’ll inevitably concede is utterly farcical. I thought he should have been replaced when we won the Playoffs… but we didn’t. He’s the main problem now. And going down and trying again with him is not an option for the team. Thank you Russel - but time to give someone else a go. 4
pingpong Posted 4 December, 2024 Posted 4 December, 2024 If we get rid of him, he'll probably get another job elsewhere. So someone else will have to put up with this style of football, from the beginning again. We are saving thousands of people from that fate, if someone has to have him, why not a club that only has a few points and has nothing to play for? Sometimes you have to take one for the rest of footballkind. 1 3
ChristopheVAFC Posted 4 December, 2024 Posted 4 December, 2024 One of SR's weak points is that they always take a long time to make a decision, especially when it comes to changing manager... Sometimes you have to make difficult choices quickly for things to work out... 1

SambaMaverick Posted 4 December, 2024 Posted 4 December, 2024 X-post from game thread: Absolutely no point sacking RM now. Hope we keep him in and make him radioactive to the top two tiers, Jones style. Hopefully every other club can see the cautionary tales of playing possession-based footy. It's shit and it needs to die a death.

CB Fry Posted 4 December, 2024 Posted 4 December, 2024 @Lighthouse has used Sheffield United as an example of a model club we should take learnings from. Last season they sacked their manager on December 5th 2023. As anyone with an advent calendar will know, December 5th is tomorrow. This is the moment and a moment everyone can agree on. The axe must fall. 1

It's become a certainty because of him. He talks about bravery, and the brave thing to have done would have been to thank him for his efforts and part company after the Leeds game. What's happening now has gone from being infuriating, to laughable, to just bizarre. Edited 4 December, 2024 by scumbag

We’ve lost 5-1 against teams as good as Chelsea were tonight with far, far better players and eleven men on the pitch. 1

LegalEagle Posted 4 December, 2024 Author Posted 4 December, 2024 It’s simple. If the fans want him sacked then boycott home games. Nothing will change whilst St Mary’s is full or thereabouts. Everyone will focus on the first goal and say ‘look Russball FFS!’ But the third, fourth and fifth goals were nothing to do with that. Chelsea picked up possession in their own half, scythed us open with far superior players and scored three good goals. The more we go long, the more we give the ball away and the more time the opposition have time and space to craft opportunities like. I don’t think our way of playing highlights our inadequacies, they just genuinely are inadequate. If anything I’d say we’ve given a few teams a better game than I expected. 2 1
