Don't bother mate - it takes a special kind of cunt to criticise someone for putting time and effort into running a charity.

I never once criticised him for running a charity.

Hope that doesn’t make me the special kind of cunt that you’re referring to.

No problem, hopefully you don't feel so burdened having a season ticket now.

I do I’m afraid.  Money received from the ticket exchange just goes into my Saints account and not my bank account.

So thank you for your well-meaning advice but it doesn’t really help me.

It wasn't, it was FF - not everything's about you.

Now why don't you put your money where your mouth is and sell your Saints tickets - I doubt the team will miss your "support".

Think of it as savings account that you'll benefit from when renewing for what looks set to be an exciting season in the championship 2025/26

Great advice, cheers.

No worries. As someone who does a lot of away games having a season ticket is essential as gives me access to those so if you fancy trying some away days it's something else that you benefit from and might make help take away the feeling of being " lumbered with a season ticket that I don’t particularly want"

You sound like a proper fan mate - keep it going.

No worries pal, thought of one other option - offer your ticket on here to hopefully end up in the hands of someone who actually wants to go. Easy enough to transfer a ticket now , takes the burden away from you having to leave the house can just moan on here instead 👍🏻

I don't know why people say stuff like this, when it's very obviously not true, as if Russ somehow doesn't know that his job depends on results. The persona this forum creates for him just gets weirder by the day. Next week people will be saying, "we won 7-0 in spite of Russ and he shot Bambi's mum."

He shot Bambi’s mum?? What a bastard, I didn’t think even he could stoop that low , and… what sort of vegan kills innocent animals?

I would be worried, that with the anonymity of this message board that I would inadvertently transfer it to a right cunt.

I think it’s clear to all of us that Martin would have rather played like he did yesterday, lose, and receive praise from Pep then actually lump it a few times and win a point.

The wider watching media/public are beginning to realise too that we’re currently Russell Martin FC.

Martin has already admitted on more than one occasion that he'd rather lose playing like this than pick up points playing in any other way.

I mean WTF. Bloke is bonkers.

Indeed, he said it again yesterday after the match and seemed proud and brave to have done so.

In his speech, no sign of the pragmatism that he displayed in the play-offs last season.  But I have to say that I believe that I can detect a more direct evolution of our usual slow and ponderous way of playing out from our goal area in the last couple of games.  We now seem to play a lot more on the break than we have done hitherto.  And that is not just because MC dominated possession against us.

What we need to do in the forthcoming games is to dominate possession much further up the pitch, well away from our goal.  It was notable that yesterday we seemed happy to fanny about with the ball in our penalty area, let alone merely in our half, whereas MC were determined to dominate possession only in our half.  Hence the game being played almost entirely in our half of the pitch.  We defended heroically for the most part but we’re fortunate to escape with only a 1:0 defeat.

I have watched a Dutch stream of the match and at half-time the commentators spent most of the break analysing the mistakes in our attempts to pass our way up the pitch.  It lasted a lot longer than Walcott’s analysis of our successful attempts.

I hope we go into the Stoke and Everton games with confidence and a willingness to play with pace and more directly forward to the three furthest-forward players.

At the risk of being the cunt who gets dragged into the argument I will point out that everyone here who posts regularly wants Saints to do well, we probably shouldn't call each other cunts and the number of times in human history that an argument has been defused by someone telling someone else to stop being angry can be counted on the fingers of no hands.

Amputees?

Best game I've ever played.

Just checked and I think I win this one.

It just amazes me how people can get so angry on the internet - surely a bit of perspective is needed?

Let’s all be realistic - we are a “premiership club” that deserves better than RM to take us forward. But the transfers/contracts that we did during the summer were a massive waste - BBD, Fraser, Smallbone, McCarthy to name but a few. Players who will never make the 1st team again.

What is the main objective of competitive sport? To win.

What is the main purpose of a manager in competitive sport? To make the team good enough to win.

On current evidence, is Russell Martin meeting these definitions, even if only by the skin of his teeth? No.

Would changing the manager at this point be a reasonable action given the above? Yes.

Shankly was right….

we are in the young footballers model where playing well and developing are more important that the result, clearly.

I think you’ll find they will be in the squad in the Championship next year: hardly a massive waste; more like a wastelet.

It strikes me that Macca is much better than Rambo in coming for crosses and generally commanding the goal area.  Perhaps not so for near-post shots, though.  Looking forward to see how he does against Stoke on Tuesday.  Ditto BBD.

The in-fighting among Saints supporters in this thread is the classic early warning sign that relegation’s looming.

Happens to every club facing inevitable relegation.

Now here’s an idea: why don’t we sack Martin, bring in someone like Frank Lampard, and turn our steep demise into a propa circus?

Any links? Would be interesting to hear some proper analysis, I just don't think most ex-players and 'taters here have any real tactical knowledge.

Sorry, no.  I think it was a viaplay one but I think you cannot now watch the Saturday matches.

Interesting. I watched the Norweigian one, and they were kinda positive about what we're trying to do, but less impressed with how we did it.

On a few occations where we did play through City from the back, they noted that the midfielders played the ball straight back to the defenders, and we had to do it all over again, and also risk it all again.

Another thing that is not a direct quote went something like "Surprised that Saints are that stubborn about playing at the back, and not adjusting to the game, even though it's what Martin wants" and "Southampton in a nutshell" when we gave away the ball in dangerous situations.

Even if Martin is adapting a little, he would never admit to it, but I agree that in the next games we have to do more of our passing higher up (and hopefully be a bit more direct).
