Am just making the point that having a penalty isn't a guaranteed goal.

It's insight like that that makes you such a valued member of the Forum 😉

It's insane!

We've recruited badly, we've spent lots of money with barely anything to show for it. The manager has his head stuck up his own arse and refuses to change. The owner can't even be bothered to fiddle whilst Rome burns, yet somehow, we want to create some elaborate strategy to pretend it is all part of some master plan!

Can we not just call it what it is, a big stinking pile of turd, rather than try to give it some sort of justification?

I'm not sure where I gave justification to it. I was simply trying to give it some rationalisation.

Again, as I said, I don't agree with the strategy. On the other hand I dont think it's a case of, instead of buying lot's of 10 - 20 million pound players, buy 3 or 4 30 - 40 million pound players.

Those players are simply not going to want to join a team, that even before this atrocious start to the season was heavy favourites to be relegated. IMO of course.

Not sure we'd still be favourites for relegation if we did, but the choice wasn't buying 3 or 4 players for £30-40m and £100k PW, it was buying a couple of players at £30-40m and £100k PW, and not purchase anyone else this Summer. PSR meant it was not possible, so we had to go shallow on fees and wages as we had such a shite team to start the season. What would the team be without Ramsdale, Downes, THB, Sugawara, Archer, Fernandes. Scarily bad for the PL. I mean, it's bad now for the PL but if we only had Rutter and Smith-Rowe for example...

Am I the only one regretting buying a Russell Martin duvet cover and pillowcase set at the end of last season? Since then I keep playing around in the wrong areas and find myself unable to score.

I was in a conference today discussing the value of football clubs and it amazed me to see how valuable a PL club is - based on the data shown, both Fulham and Brighton were in the top 30 worldwide, with Boscombe not far behind. The cost of relegation from the PL gets bigger and bigger…. I would have thought SR would be a little more proactive in protecting their investment, especially if the cost of a redundancy payment is the issue (and surely these contracts are performance related?).

The club needs a lift a shred of good news ... I can honestly see us conceding five or more goals on Saturday and what will that do to our already fragile confidence?

We need that new manager bounce it's the only thing that can save us now.... Give the players and fans something to believe in.... Pay moyes what he wants and tell martin to bugger off and count his money 💰 💰 💰

Yeah I would take Moyes, least he would instill a bit of heart and bollocks in this team and get us organised.

I had a thought regarding Martin. Do you think Lallana undermined him? Or called him out on shit tactics ?

You would think Lallana, experienced player, knows how to run the midfield and how to operate at this level, should be one of the first names on team sheet....

Doesn't make any sense

Well it does make sense when you consider he's 36.  For me, it should have been Lallana instead of Smallbone coming on against Leicester.

Is there any evidence or rumour to suggest this was the case with Lallana?

I think if we are going to persevere with Martin then best case scenario after that would be to get a coach with Premier League experience in. Like Eric Black. ;)  Sammy Lee would be good, but he has been out of the game for four years now since West Brom in 2020, so he probably isn't interested in working in the game anymore. Just someone who can pass on some more knowledge and help guide Martin, if we are stuck with him. Someone who could perhaps organise a defence too.

Using Nathan Jones as an example, he was successful with Luton, but he also had Paul Hart and Mick Harford assisting him throughout. Two who weren't the greatest of managers, but two who have plenty of knowledge and could set him straight if he was going on one of his mad ones. We brought neither with him here.

Russell seemed both defensive and a little feisty in the press conference - defensive in that even he must know he's not cutting the mustard and, feisty buoyed by the backing he is receiving from the owners. Apart from that it was the usual evasive nonsense that we hear every week. Pity the press guys don't do their job properly and instead allow him a very easy ride - I get the impression they are scared of him.

Come on, he's only had eight games to impose his style on the league. Pundits are genuinely amazed at his tactics. Any week now he's going on the 1 game streak that briefly threatens to take us out of the relegation positions. Trust the process.

His first job will be the art of defending corners in the final minute although why the existing manager and coaches allowed the conceding of two identical goals is anybody's guess - incompetence springs to mind.

Notice he’s dropped the obsession with ‘scar tissue’ this season. Wonder why.

It's his thing. If he doesn't get the attention he craves, he gets personal. It's pretty sad really

For someone with allegedly such a hot missus, you spend a lot of your time commenting on and obsessing over me.

Methinks he tries too hard...

I wonder if he watched the first half of Barca, Bayer last night. I’m not saying we have the same players. But at least both tried something different.

Not a fan of either team particularly, but wow what a first half.

RM, you can try different things 🤷‍♂️

Took some comfort from the press conference on hearing that we're good at throw-ins.

Didn’t Sugawara get booked for the opposite of this.

Mind you, that was Taylor so maybe on this one RM is right

I hear Zidane still has no club and would love to get into the Premier league. We're a step up from his last club

He said that he could have stayed at home and married a girl from La Castellane. Instead he relishes the challenge of following in the footsteps of some of the best pound for pound managers in Europe.

Surely you know how it works? It's like the press corps travelling with the PM to Samoa and sending news clips back to London of interviews with the PM on a sunny, sandy beach that could just as esily have been doen in London or through Face Time at home. It's a gravy train circus where everyone has a part to play in the performance and nobody rocks the boat.

Here’s a lift - from BBC footy site - our Russ is not the worst prem manager…

  • Russell Martin has earned one point from his first eight fixtures as a Premier League manager - only Mick McCarthy has ever fared worse.

See, rejoice in our not quite so shittest ever PL manager 😉

Why have us fans had to suffer the most deluded and out of depth managers the premier league has ever seen.

This and a board of utterly clueless individuals who just repeat stupid mistake after mistake employing them in this league when it was obvious that it was idiotic, add this to the ridiculous transfer activities they have sanctioned in recent times, we have just become a laughing stock.

Sadly this pattern shows no sign of ending and the shit show continues.
