TBF, we have conceded more per game with Juric as Manager...but luckily as you said a number of times, it can't get any worse!!

And as I said, it can when SR are picking managers.

No, results like that can help to pick up teams. It should have been 12, and we should have been in our Honeymoon period.

The fact is we haven't conceded less than 60 in a season since the 2017/2018 season.

You'd imagine the second manager would do better though, wouldn't you? New Managers tend to do better initially, rather than ones getting towards the end of their tenure.

And this is what I've been saying for the god knows how long. Our defence is dog shite, has been for years. This is due to player recruitment and coaching. It has spanned 8 managers.

Some might argue our defenders were some of the best in the Championship last season (on paper... I'm sure @Matthew Le God will correct me if I'm wrong :)) but the system being played contributed significantly to our poor goals-against tally, less so the relative quality of the players (for a change). But I totally agree that we haven't had a premier league standard defence for many seasons now.

I don't think many Saints fans would argue that Stephens and Bednarek are the best in any division - and I don't think KWP is any good defensively either.

TBF, what 150 PL appearances for £6m? Can’t moan at the value, issue is the club hasn’t spent the £25-30m required in that position.

Probably only should’ve been a squad player but Wesley Hoedt at £17m/£35m in todays value yet appalling and wasn’t good enough for Watford last season, and Vestergaard who can’t run (amazingly we got our money back - cheers Brendan!). Yes, it’s been a decent spiral in CB quality if you take a line through the likes of Claus, Svensson, Fonte, Toby, VVD.

I’d say this is pretty much where we are. The cool boss who let you do whatever you wanted with minimal consequences has just been let go. He let you have days off whenever you wanted and brought his ex glamour model mrs on the Christmas party. He’s now replaced with a complete authoritarian who happily tells you you’re fucking useless and get you in doing laps 7 days a week.

A true SR masterclass.

Good luck to him there. 50 passes with no end product against sides they are expected (however realistically) to dominate and impose themselves against, is going to end badly.

He's going to have to solve a lot of the issues he faced at his other clubs, on not a great budget.

A fair number of others also in contention.

Any of Manning, Wood, Fraser or Downes would be great signings for him. Can't see them paying those wage levels though.

It would be a good appointment for them and him if he’s had time to reflect self-critically on why things didn’t go as well this season. With the exception of 100mph Old Firm games, possession based will work for a big fish in that league and probably in Europe if he adapts it. Big club and profile even if the SPL is weak.

In terms of SFC personnel, Aribo is a legend up there but wages would be an issue unless Joe swaps length of contract slightly taking into account the relegation reduction. Manning is likely, but I don’t think Rangers can afford the fee for Downes unless their new owners really put their hand in their pocket. I don’t know what their keeper is like but Bazanu on loan might suit him, Saints and Martin. 

Fraser likes the south coast of England and could still do a job in the Champ next year.

We scored 87 goals last season (5 less than Ipswich in top) with the largest number of created chances and second best XG, in a league we were expected to dominate. 

Stop talking rubbish - he'll probably do very well at Rangers.

Great job for him if it's confirmed. I think he'll do well as long as he does something that he's not really done so far in his managerial career, and that's not concede 60+ goals each season (even in a successful one). Wonder if he's still insistent on not deviating from his possession-obsession.

It's not confirmed- they've appointed Barry Ferguson (with coaching from Neil McCann) until the end of the season.

Agree though - Rangers would be perfect for Russell Martin and he'd do pretty well there. I don't think he's getting a better job than that.

Ah, when I heard he was linked I thought it was probably likely, just seems a good fit (and ex-Rangers). Yep, as good a job as he could expect to get if it eventually happens.

87 goals is the only figure that matters. Chances created and certainly xG are figments of somebody’s imagination.

Smallbone is a good shout for either of the Old Firm. Good footballer, nice touch, passing range and can finish well. Just hasn’t got a physique suited to English football at all unless he’s willing to really work at it, and if he can’t, Old Firm and European football might work for Will as long as Saints weren’t too greedy on the fee eg £5-8m. Celtic probably better with the RoI connection.
