‘The next two weeks will be telling’. What further will it tell the dunce SFC and SR boards? His style of play is a losing one every week, strewn with unforced errors, uncompetitive and drab and he’s lost 99% of the fans https://x.com/JustSaints_/status/1867254714716283029?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet

Probably bollocks given the source but if it true that SR are insisting replacements stick to similar ponderous loser football, no wonder everyone approached has told them to do one so far. Rasmus truly is a dunce, high performance expert (see wiki page) my arse https://www.footballinsider247.com/southampton-work-on-russell-martin-replacement-after-sack-twist-insider/

Get some ‘Russell Martin your football is shit’ chants going so Parsons and SR can’t ignore that we loathe the football ‘philosophy’ as much as anything else. I grew up with Danny Wallace, Steve Moran and MLT as heroes, the anthesis of Martin/Pep bullshit.

This should be it. He has acknowledged what so of us have suspected all along, we went up despite him, not because of him. What was it he said last week, “I’m not here to grind out results”. Well he’s in the big league because “emotion took over” and we did pretty much grind out a result. Not because of Lego ball, despite Lego ball. If emotions hadn’t taken over we’d have fucking lost, no doubt about that…

what a cock, he’s even managed to talk down his greatest achievement with his babbling too clever by half pony. Forget Pep, he’s fucking David Brent with a Lego head….

The state of that quote. He’s really scraping the barrel. If Nathan Jones said something like that, he’d have been slaughtered for it. Martin is becoming a national joke now.

LD nailed it, at the stage now where the ego is undermining his greatest achievement as a manager to justify the current debacle. Remarkable and untenable.

Unless that’s about 30m long it’s a poor effort.. no point doing a 6pm protest.. needs to happen just before kick off..

More to the point, he doesn't have the players to play the way he wants in the prem, and he won't adapt. Give him unlimited funds to buy the best players and we'd look like a pep team... What Martin can't / won't do, is change style.

I disagree. I don't see us taking up the positions or showing the kind of movement that would have us looking like a Pep team if we had better players.

Better players would certainly make Martin look better, but mostly because better players look for the ball and know how to position themselves to find it. He's not a master tactician undermined by the quality of players available to him. He's an extremely limited poser who has latched on to maintaining possession as his only footballing ideal, but doesn't actually have any clue how to progress the ball up the pitch when we've got it.

How is it hurtful? What's embarrassing is dealing with our points total by doing the same things that got us to our total.

Ok. So when I said that at least Martin adapted in the final I was giving credit where it wasn't due. Somebody needs to keep him away from the press.

I think RM has been found out. The media initially didn't pay much attention to us as we're not part of the big six, so not as many clicks to be made on Saints coverage. But I've noticed in the last month or so that the commentators, pundits and various media outlets, not to mention opposition fans, have all started to point out the flaws in our one-dimensional system.

The best comparison I read the other day was:

'Russell Martin is either very stubborn or very naive, or perhaps both, in persisting with a system that clearly isn't working. It's like insisting on driving a car with square-shaped wheels made of concrete.'

Wish there would be more of this sort of thing on Sunday when we lose 4-0. We seem to be the only club / fans who will just accept this dross we are being served up by the club and RM.

I bet our fans will even clap RM and the players off at the end of the game on Sunday when we've lost.

Yes RM, it is extremely "embarrassing". Have you stopped to wonder why?

I don't get the "hurtful" bit. "Deeply fucking depressing" would have been a better choice of words.

When you eventually leave, as you surely will, we will get Joe Lumley to hand to you, your extremely large "pay off". You can then give it to KWP who will hand it on to THB, who will then give it back to KWP and he in turn, will hand it back to you. You will then give it back to Joe Lumley who unfortunately will miss it and it will end up back in the Saints bank account......at which point you can disappear out of our club.

This is what Martin and SR think is revolutionary brave football what hope is there? The downward spiral is going to continue our owners are beyond clueless and merely enablers enabling the abuse Martin inflicts on our club (and the fans)

As I jokingly said in the other manager thread,

Joey Barton please………..

I am beginning to think that isn’t such a bad idea.

Could do with upsetting the Apple cart, we are falling into oblivion as it is.

We are, Snowflakes in every department. I can’t see that changing anywhere in our Club anytime soon.

Vincent Kompany insisted on only playing his way when Burnley were promoted to the Premier League. When his stubbornness resulted in their inevitable relegation at the end of last season, Kompany went off to Bayern Munich. Maybe RM thinks along those lines. Sod what happens to Saints because PSG or Juventus may come calling. I will gladly chip in for his fare when the time comes.

Vincent Kompany was one of the top defenders of his generation with a worldwide reputation....  Whilst Martin has a big ego I'm not sure even he is deluded enough to think a big club is going to come calling for him anytime soon

I think SFC/Sports Republic are hoping/waiting for Martin to resign, as the stigma of having the lowest points total in the EPL will not enhance his reputation or chances of reemployment….

No wonder we're being taken for idiots by the clowns in charge.

This comment is spot on. We've seen many delusional managers trying to copy Pep Guardiola's tiki taka football because of his vast success, but without his tactical genius and experience, it's been an absolute tippy-tappy disaster for most sides. Vincent Kompany is a perfect example, another one is Brendan Rodgers' pathetic attempts at playing out from the back with Celtic in the Champions League - they got absolutely battered until he changed it up, Celtic's Champions League record under Rodgers' tenures was shocking.

The difference is that unlike Kompany and Rodgers, Russell Martin hasn't achieved sod all in his career. It's like the muppet asked ChatGPT to write his tactics and now he's stubbornly stuck with them, hoping that one day all this meaningless stats-padding will lead to him pulling off a Kompany-style move to a bigger club.

I wouldn't be so sure. He specifically mentioned Big Ange as an example of someone who has stuck to his way of playing and that has got him to a Champions League team. It's not that he wants to get saints to the Champions League, he thinks that ultimately sticking to these principles will allow him to climb higher and it will ultimately be good for his career to do so.

Yep. He really is that deluded that he thinks he will be the next Vincent Kompany

Russ, I have news for you mate. This is the highest level you will ever manage. Make the most of this because you’ll be gone soon and then you’ll be back to league one just like Nathan Jones.

Sadly we will probably there to join you in a few seasons with these fucking idiots in charge.

It is actually quite funny, following it on "Southampton SaintsFC Forum Facebook Chat"  Banner owner moaning that other fans are "snitching" on him, reporting him to the club. Having the photo of his banner stolen and his "Identity" stolen. It resembles an episode of "Slow Horses" and it is far more entertaining following this saga that it is watching games!

Posted

It's funny how people are so enraged by the club, team, management etc, and that we'll be dropping out of the PL at the end of the season, that they're now deciding to not go to games. Surely you'd want to go to games to watch PL football while it lasts.....oh, and to support your team.

I don't know. He would be able to point to examples of managers who have followed similar paths and found success (ange and kompany are two.) He would probably argue that he would be successful now if he had a better quality of player.
