I believe the extension element was written into the original contract and based upon promotion. Therefore it was not something the club could 'choose' not to bother with as it would have been a contractual obligation. The only argument is whether they should have breached the contract - and the likely financial restitution in doing so - and whether that would have been better value for money than what we currently see! I've said it before and I'll say it again, an extension written into the original contract based upon promotion (if true) should never have been offered. Instead it should've been a promotion bonus with a pay raise only. If RM and his agent said no, they could tell them good luck with their future job searches and look elsewhere for another lower division Ankersen non-entity, who would jump at the chance to manage a club beyond his abilities. There are plenty of those to choose from. It's not like we trying to hire a Klopp, Pep or Mourinho. 1

Unless you know the terms of the contract, you can’t really complain about it. If they’ve left any break clause as it was (for example we’ll pay you a years money on termination), then all they’ve done is exactly what you wanted them to, given him a pay rise. Whether it’s a 3 year contract or a new 4 year contract, or even a 100 year contract, doesn’t mean a thing unless you’ve agreed to pay the full contract up if sacked. In July ‘23 I’m sure pretty much every supporter would have agreed that if he got us up he deserved a new deal. Hindsight is a wonderful thing… “If I get you up, I want a new deal” isn’t exactly a piss taking outrageous demand, any agent with half a fucking brain would be after that. If his play out from the back method was even close to working we should be creating lots of attacking moves and goals. The fact that we are not demonstrates how deluded this man is yet every week we hear him make the same claims - the players are so brave, I'm proud of them and we are getting close. It's utter bullshit. 4

gurru991 Posted 11 December, 2024 Posted 11 December, 2024 I realize that managers have a plan on how they would like to play but most realize that initially survival is the goal before style. Get the first year in & get some Premier league money & start building a team to fit the desired style. To take a Championship team to the Premier & think that you can match up with the big boys immediately is just insanity. It seems like a waste to achieve promotion & just piss it away because of your principals. 12

I think that's perferctly reasonable and if his agent had refused I'd have said, "f**k off, you manage Swansea not Juventus." Cabrone Posted 12 December, 2024 Posted 12 December, 2024 (edited) Whatever it costs to sack him it's loose change vs the loss of earnings from a prem place, even at the bottom. Therefore if they really are going to hold on to him I can only assume it's because they already think we are down so why waste more money. Keep him and see if he can get us back up in the remaining 2 seasons. After all he did it last time (just) so maybe worth another go? However that assumes the board actually have a strategy. Alternatively maybe they really do think he's the new football messiah and this season is but a mere blip?? Edited 12 December, 2024 by Cabrone

He isn't just blowing any smoke though is he? He is highlighting a positive that directly relates to himself also. That isn't by chance and to not see that is staggering. He is reiterating that sticking by ones convictions, no matter the cost, is laudable. He is doubling down on his own attitude. Conceited pr**k that he is. 10

Yeah I would as it goes, as I have eyes and see a manager who is completely wedded to a style of playing that is ill fitted to the players he has at his disposal. However, despite defeat after defeat and mistake after mistake he doesn't change. So, in my opinion, he's either being self-centred and showcasing himself to other potential suitors, or he's stupid. 3

david in sweden Posted 12 December, 2024 Posted 12 December, 2024 Playing " Russball "- if you are Barcelona or Real - and play on a flat pitch on a dry day looks very good, but not with a sub-standard Prem. squad... in a raging storm, or in torrential rain is a recipe for disaster. Those players still here from last season were " just about good enough " for the Championship (last season) but many lack the necessary qualties required at the highest level. It seems fairly certain that RM will still be around after the New Year and even longer, (unless we become even worse ..is that possible?). We will surely pick up a few more points sooner or later , but the manager(s) who are most likely to get the sack ...are those whose team fail to beat a side that has already lost around a dozen games and are already rock bottom in the drop zone. The sight of fans from " one of the big clubs " committing hari-kari at the Chapel End after their multi- million pound side fails to take home all three points (VAR permitting) might be a sight to recall, and their manager can surely expect the axe when he returns back home.
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 December, 2024 Posted 12 December, 2024 If we had better players it would be a waste of their talents to have them playing Russball. There are much more effective systems if you want to win a game. Endlessly playing the ball around at the back gets you nowhere even if you don't make mistakes. 5
