Surely they'd love to play in a more attack minded team that sees the final third more than once a game? Absolutely - I was joking. It was a play on: - Bring him home - Puel being French - The fact the fans hated him for not being entertaining enough. RVN has an abundance of attacking players at Old Trafford to select from. Don’t think you can take anything from his brief time there. If you go back a few pages one of the posters who follows Dutch football (may even be Dutch) makes a good summary of his time at PSV. Nothing special (even if he would be an upgrade on RM)

I know they say one thing to the media but surely there's got to be some kind of unrest now in the dressing room? One of the excuses his defenders made for us is that he clearly "had the dressing room". Now, that ignores the significant number of players he fell out with whilst Swans manager, but if you're the sneaky, suspicious type you begin to wonder just how it is that so many stories make the press about how popular within the club he is despite results and performances being absolutely shite. The conclusion is that the stories are originating with Martin himself. Either directly or via his buddies. Some managers make a habit of getting the local hacks onside by being a reliable source of stories, and Russy is quite good at it. Many, many times here we were told things via the local press that made him look good but clanged completely against reality. I'd be asking for the ultimate source of these stories if I was you. We had the same thing with Roberto Martinez in the past. Another pretty shite manager who journalists loved to big up because he was a good source of copy. OwenTheSaints Posted 10 November, 2024 Posted 10 November, 2024 Can anyone say what we are trying to achieve as a club? All this talk of being on track and a 10 year plan - what kind of plan includes a second relegation in 3 seasons? Where’s the motivation for the players, and the fans, to get promoted to the Premier League next season, if we don’t even TRY to be competitive when we get there? Like what are we doing here? Martin *might* be well placed to bring us back up next year but to what end? We’ll just be in the same position as now (but minus ramsdale, harwood-bellis, downes etc) and potentially breaking our own lowest points record. To then just repeat the cycle? For what it’s worth, I don’t believe we were ready for promotion. We were dire at the beginning and end of the season (pre-playoffs) and our coveted unbeaten run came at a time when the top teams had pulled away and we didn’t have the pressure (and it included plentiful draws against Huddersfield, Watford…) We know the squad has weaknesses and the stubborn/dull tactics are easily countered in the Prem, but why the blind acceptance that this is our level and just part of the process? If no shots on target against a team that hasn’t kept a clean sheet since February and no wins this season doesn’t cause any concern, then there’s no reason for anyone to bother, be it manager, players, fans… Please, can someone explain what our thinking is as a club? 7

verlaine1979 Posted 11 November, 2024 Posted 11 November, 2024 Ten year plan talk is guff. SR didn't buy the club with the intention of us getting relegated. They thought they'd bought a small but sturdy established PL club that had diced with peril for a few seasons because of underinvestment and poor scouting. They assumed that they could bring in slightly better adminstrators and infrastructure and we'd be up with the likes of Brighton and Brentford again. The fact that they didn't manage it should give caution to anyone imagining that the same approach can be taken to getting promoted reliably from the Championship. Best laid plans n'all that. 8

obelisk Posted 11 November, 2024 Posted 11 November, 2024 Decision time for SR. If they want even a glimmer of a chance of saving Saints from relegation then the time to make the change is now (in reality it was after the Bournemouth shambles but we are where we are). If they're happy to accept relegation and a scrap to make the play-offs next season without the likes of THB, Ramsdale & Fernandes then they'll let Martin try and beat the Derby points total. I suspect it'll be the latter. The equivalent of sideways, backwards and no shot on target. 1
