So you're saying Ruben Selles, Nathan Jones and Russell Martin were big money huge investment appointments that showed towering ambition?

Is that what you're saying?

I'm saying they were not cheap.

But that doesn't let anyone off. The fact they weren't cheap and we had to pay for them, and then pay them off, should be ringing even bigger alarm bells in terms of who we have running this place.

They were cheap, every club pays wages and compensation and release fees mate.

Just tell me which of Selles, Martin and Nathan Jones are the closest to being the "Pep Guardiola" figure that you are saying we have had and rejected as a fanbase?

Jones had just signed a 5 year contract, Russell was also in a contract. It also cost silly money to get rid of Jones.

How much then? I know the club had legal action filed against them for Martin...no idea how much Jones cost..

Exactly. They got Martin right last season as we did get promoted but this next managerial appointment has to be right. Don't go too clever, either get someone like Moyes or someone from Europe.

If it's someone like Mark Robins I will give up.

Bad Wolf's point as I understand it is that Nathan Jones was a Pep-like appointment that the Saints fans should have been dancing in the streets with joy at the ambition of it all. Or something.

I have no idea. But there were managers unemployed at the time. Ironically the Sean Dyche that most people wanted would have been the actual cheap option. SR have invested a ridiculous amount of money into the club since they came in. They may be incompetent but they're NOT stingey.

For doing that he absolutley deserved a crack, but he's been given that crack and is showing us all what we pretty much felt would happen.

As I've asked before on here, how come Leeds' manager didn't even "Just about" get promoted. He failed. And is still being backed? They also had a squad that was on par with ours if not a little bit better.

Because he was a shit appointment.

Who is the "even if it was Pep" thing based on? Who is the ambitious appointment of a decent manager with a decent reputation  that has been rejected immediately like you are claiming would happen?

I have never been a fan of sacking Managers as the consequences of replacing Ralph, Jones and Selles hasnt gone too well.

We all were reasonably buoyant after the Wembley win but sensible enough to realise that without a top goalkeeper (tick) an upgrade in midfield (Fernandes, semi tick) a top rated striker (failed miserably) and a change in tactics (no chance), life in the Prem would be a real challenge.

All that said, even a card carrying pessimist as  myself, who has been through regular episodes of relegation threats, didnt expect things to be as bad as they are now.

When I think back Swansea fans did warn us of Russell Martins shortcomings.

All we can hope for now is that the club can prepare us well for life back in the Championship by appointing a Manager who can actually move the ball forward rather than sideways and backwards, endeavour to keep those players who can be useful in the lower division, maximise transfer revenue from players who are of interest to Prem teams and improve scouting which really needs to identify and find a proper goalscoring striker who is not permanently injured.

Fans should get behind a manager no matter what when he's appointed. I'm sure Lawrie was seen as a shit appointment too. We could appoint someone from a midtable club in the conference and I'd still get behind him. There's no sense in not doing so.

You’re obsessed with constantly digging at our fanbase as if you’re some high and mighty superior intellect that “gets football” over and above the tiny brains of other poor deluded souls who support this club . Literally all you do is respond to posts and turn them into cheap shots at the fan base. Maybe you could wish cancer on someone again like you did last season, if we are talking about being a “Mature” person. That says it all about the person you really are. One of the biggest morons I’ve ever encountered on social media within any platform.

Total myth again. KWP, THB, Downes and AA are the only ones who'd have got in every other Championship squad. Aribo, Bednarek, Bree and Adams would have maybe got into tams outside the playoff positions.

Despite popular belief we had a good Championship squad. Nothing more.

Not really pal, just pointing out that you’re happy to give it the “holier than thou” bravado on here, yet anyone no matter how upset they are, doesn’t wish cancer on another person. Nice attempt at victim playing to justify wishing death on someone else though. Keyboard warrior? I’ll happily say it to your face mate.

Why would we have welcomed Jones with open arms? We were a Premier League club going for a cheap option yet again. There were a 101 managers floating around Europe who would have taken out job, yet we went for a manager from Luton fuckin town.

As will I. Not trying to play the victim at all. I'm sorry for what I said. Genuinely I was disgusted with myself within 5 minutes. The situation wasn't an excuse but it certainly didn't help. Apologising doesn't make it okay I know but I can't take it back. I wish I could but I can't. So please consider this an apology to yourself. Whether you accept it or not is your choice but I'm sorry.
