He's not resigning and giving up millions in compensation, however much you think he should. He seems to think his job is safe judging by the Daily Echo quote after the game. The right decision is to part ways, but it costs Dragan a lot of money when there's absolutely no guarantee a new manager could keep us up.

Before today's match, he was asked what would be a good season for him. RM replied "still being the Southampton manager."

The interviewer then stated "because that would mean you stayed in the PL."

I didn't catch the response to see if RM had that as a deliverable.

But then, there's being competitive and getting relegated, and stranded without a hope and getting relegated. That will probably decide how long this tenure is going to be.

There is no argument for keeping Martin now.  He fucked up royally again today and has well and truly run out of chances.

He has to be sacked.  Cannot keep him in post any longer.

Managers don’t ’fall on their sword’. It doesn’t happen, not least because they’d be waving good bye to a pay off. It’s up to the club to act. Not the manager. The decision should be taken out of his hands.

My hopes aren't up.

Our recruitment was poor and we've pissed away too many early, easier games. Absolutely zero early season momentum.

In all probability we're going back down.

As I said before, we'll see next spring with ten games to go whether we have a replacement who is a) able to keep us up (unlikely) b) nicely placed to take us into a Championship season or c) not worth persevering with.

All depends on whether our Russ replacement is a Nathan Jones or a Gordon Strachan.

When I said “fall on his sword”, I meant that he goes to the Board and agreed a deal with them for his departure. He knows his time is up. The Board knows his time is up. Act like grown ups and agree the exit strategy. That would be the honourable thing to do but aside from one or two there are very few honourable men in football.

Getting relegated with double digit points though would be sending the club into free fall. Whereas getting over 20 points from here with somebody with a modicum of organisation would at least give some hope going into next term. The season died at 5pm today in a competitive sense but we can enjoy a few decent moments in what remains by making a positive change now, even if it’s a month later than it ought to have been professionally-speaking.

Also, gates would plummet before the end of the season and the atmosphere would be very toxic from those who did still attend. Look at how we struggled to get sponsors under Branfoot and later on Lowe. 

Replacing the manager is an obvious decision for someone with an ounce of commercial acumen. The even better follow-up is a Director of Football for SR with Saints focus mainly to start with.

‘in all probability’ is admirably optimistic 

think its more a case of  ‘beyond all reasonable doubt’

That was it today - game over 

it’s just a question now of how embarrassing is this season going to be as at the moment i am finding it difficult to see how we win a game

How have you managed to deduce that? It doesn’t make any sense, he’s either sh*t or he isn’t. He’s either dreadful and needs to be sacked now, or he’s biding his time, waiting for a better gig with a bigger club, not both.

This is our problem - we are run by people who have no clue. Best we can hope for is that Dragan gets bored and decides to sell and we are bought and someone competent is paid a lot of money to run the club properly - these SR guys are a bunch of clowns.

Today's game reminded me a lot of Jones' game against Wolves where we took the lead, they went down to 10 men and then we threw it away. It was the same feeling that Leicester weren't going to struggle scoring and that, once they did, we'd fold. Same feeling that surely that's it for Martin if he's unable to capitalise on such a strong start to a game at home against another team towards the bottom of the table.

According to his bbc interview the turning point was the red card.
It just wasn’t.
The turning point was Fraser for Suga, with Smallbone for Fernandes. He panics with his in game decisions; he chose Sulemana, then deployed him too deep. He’s utterly out of his depth at being a manager of a football game. He set us up well, planned well (well, except at last minute corners obviously) and to begin with we executed well.

But things happen in games that he has to react to; the second he’s under pressure, whether in a game making a tactical decision, or even in an interview, he mentally goes to pieces and makes terrible decisions.

Unfortunately for RM being a manager means managing a game as well as doing the coaching. He might be ok at the coaching, he’s p1ss poor at managing football games.

He needs to go I’m afraid.

Problem is the whole lot need replacing - does anyone seriously think SR have the remotest idea how to run a football club judging them on what we've seen so far - they are as out of their depth as RM.

Vincent Kompany was a world class international centre back. He has little bit more going on than he relegated Burnley.

That spectacular header just after home time which would have been own goal of the season goes in and it’s goodnight Vienna for Leicester. At two nil Cooper would have drilled them to keep pressuring saints as fragmentation and gaps will appear, and they did. Thought the subs weakened us, particularly Dibling who was really getting under their skin. Mention of ref, can’t remember a worse performance than that this century - probably Roger Milford’s lovechild.

Well if he brings on Charlie Taylor a reliable recognised left back instead of trying to be smart by bringing on a winger then Fraser would not have received the red card. He needs to take ownership of his ludicrous decision making instead of making wafer thin excuses that fool nobody.

Today has flagged Another characteristic under Russ that we simply cannot handle momentum shifts,as soon as Leicester got their first goal we all knew it was coming ..ironically russ coined the term “ scar tissue “ but it’s become even more of a trait under him.

I think you have to be bordering on insane if you think he can turn it around now

Heard that interview and thought that was a very odd thing for him to say. From memory his response was pretty bad, along the lines of ‘as long as the players brave being relegated would be ok.’

I really wanted it to work and I still do, but tactical naivety is 100% his downfall. 

Not knowing when to make subs, making them for the sake of it rather than a need, and also making the right subs.

Examples of all three today. Fraser - a winger - being deployed at full back instead of moving KWP - a natural full back out wide and bringing 6ft2 Taylor on in the centre. Error one.

Will Smallbone and Paul Onuachu being brought on, when seemingly Matty Fernandes and Cameron Archer were having good games. Error two.

Smallbone - again - being subbed on when he has little to no impact in the team, when Lallana who is calm, composed and a considerably better player is sat on the bench. Error three.

We haven’t even got started on the fact that tactically again he’s not learnt from mistakes - exhibit A: No players on the edge of the area. AGAIN! Basics.

It’s time to move on.

I agree that he can't read a game and make proper tactical decisions.  I suppose in part that's due to having a philosophical straitjacket.

Martin is confident of keeping his job after a meeting with the club’s owner Dragan Solak

Asked if he felt under pressure, Martin said: “I had a brilliant chat with Dragan and the guys at a scheduled board meeting yesterday, so no.”
