I think this is masking our own stupidity rather than Swanseas.

If you want the bloke, go get him. Stop warbling on about the legalities and pay the sum. You stupid fuckers (RA et al) trumpet on about how game changing and visionary you are all the time and how utterly confident you are so put your money where you mouth is and get him in so he can begin work.

Stop wasting valuable time there’s a lot of shite to sort out and waiting will cost us far more than 800k in the long run.

Honestly… they think they’re playing a clever game but it’s not, it’s stupid.

You know all the players are on holiday, right?

Weren't we "officially" relegated when they put an "R" next to us in the league table?  Pretty sure there was no way back after that...

Well no. Relegation is moving down a level. If we were relegated against Fulham, why did we play a Premier League the following week?

Can’t wait for DT to start his annual summer campaign of “why haven’t we done this yet?”

when you’re walking down stairs, at two stairs from the floor, you’re still going down the stairs. just because there is two stairs between you and the end destination dosent mean you’re not going down.

Strikes me a bit of posturing from both clubs.

Swansea want to be able to say to their fans, we didn't keel over and made Saints pay to take our manager, and our lot don't want to be seen to 'cave in' and pay more than they have to. (Laughable when you consider how much we paid Luton to take NJ).

Eventually a deal will be reached, Saints won't want to risk say Leicester coming in and paying the full amount, SWansea won't want to have a disgruntled manager left with them (if both Saints and Leicester walk away) and we find someone else (Man City U16's coach or whatever).

Beeb also saying it's down to compensation but the figures they're reporting are £2 million and £1.25 million.

Simple solution would be "yes, we'll pay £1.25m now... balance if he gets us promoted at the end of the season".  Wonder if either club would be confident enough of that though.

Or meet in the middle on the basis that legal fees would cost both sides

Since March in some cases.

Would have thought we'd walk away before any legal wrangling.

Wouldn't be surprised if other 'feelers' aren't being put out.

Ah but you should know by now, it’s all about the PROCESS of going downstairs…the final result matters not if the ambition and application to go downstairs is evident.

Has Martin been approached to manage a Premier League or Championship club?

Currently, as far as the clause is concerned, a premier league club

So you’re either being thick or deliberately obtuse and Id suggest its not the latter

What if, say, a football loving author left a book on the landing, and you tripped and unambitiously fell down the stairs?

Not sure how you arrive at that conclusion when nobody seemingly knows exactly what the clause is. If it depends when the approach was made and it was made before last Sunday when you were still playing PL games then of course we should hold out for the full amount. If there are any grey areas or if everyone has to wait for weeks on end then presumably the clubs will find some sort of middle ground to allow everyone to move on quickly.

Unfortunately we've plenty of noddies that support this football club, as you'll probably find out next season.

I think most sensible fans / posters on here can see that its a little bit of 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other. You want X we want to pay Z and in a week or 2 and we'll agree Y. They're is no rush right now, the players aren't back for a few weeks and both sides know that. Standard negotiations when there is no time pressure at the minute.

My concern is if we piss you guys off for haggling over peanuts now, will that impact the likelihood of you selling your best players to us in a months time...?

In theory its a sensible solution, but why would Swansea agree to that. If the clause is £2m for a PL club, which we still are technically, then we pay the £2m or wait until we're technically not.

We'll agree in the middle in the next week or 2, without a doubt imo.

If we approach a team for a player I doubt the selling club think a PL club is after him. There again with Ankersen he probably still tells all who will listen he owns a PL club

The clubs should just meet in the middle, Both have valid points.

This is not helping either team.

Agreed, but can’t blame Swansea for holding out if they’re technically correct per the contract wording and it’s a sizeable difference in sum.

There’s no time constraints, Swansea clearly don’t want to just hand him over, he has a contractual clause that suggests we pay ‘x’ whilst we are a PL club and ‘y’ whilst we are a Championship club

Legally we are a PL club… its not hard to understand

Perhaps, But if Swansea wait it out until qe are officially a championship club then we are well within our right activate his championship clause.

It's why southampton should offer grace ans meet in the middle now.

Well, we don’t know if that has or hasn’t happened already. But Swansea haven’t got much to lose if it hasn’t been offered

All speculation. Like most I’d rather it was just all sorted asap, but there’s no football,on at the moment to grizzle about so this will do instead.

Yeah, there is no rush for us as a club to appoint him.

I can imagine Russell is constant contact with Wilcox anyway.

As per my original point, if this is indeed the case, Swansea are being dicks, incurring the cost of Martin and his backroom staff for another week, month or however long they wish to by sticking to the letter of the clause rather than the spirit of it.  Pathetic really.

I look forward to seeing your full-throated support of the club selling Kyle Walker Peters for the very first offer they recieve. After all, we shouldn't be dicks about it, should we?

Swansea using their negotiating skills to get more money is fair game, but this “still a premier league club” stuff is ridiculous.

The amount of people that don’t understand how clauses work from a legal perspective is spectacular
