Fitzhugh Fella Posted 14 May, 2023 Share Posted 14 May, 2023 Saints oldest living player, Johnny Flood aged 90, passed away yesterday - a sad day in the club's history in more ways than one. Southampton born, New Forest bred and coming from a large footballing family, I met John many times, he was a lovely chap and he would proudly show me his immaculately preserved scrapbooks. He was very proud to have payed for the Saints and to be remembered by the fans. Sadly you can't say that much these days. In a way it is a passing of an era because John was signed by Saints manager Bill Dodgin in the late 40s, a heady time to be a Saints fan. My condolences to his wife and family. https://www.saintsplayers.co.uk/player/john-flood/
derry Posted 14 May, 2023 Share Posted 14 May, 2023 I remember john Flood vividly. Playing right wing against I think the Cherries, Saints 7-0 scored a magnificent goal beating the full back cutting in about 25 yds out literally smashed the ball into the top left corner with the keeper nowhere near it. RIP John.
spyinthesky Posted 14 May, 2023 Share Posted 14 May, 2023 (edited) I too remember John Flood from my early days watching Saints at The Dell. A small tricky right winger as was the mould in those days. Then Terry Paine came along and the likes of Johnny Flood and Dave Chadwick had to play second fiddle. Sorry to hear we have lost one of the Saints family Edited 14 May, 2023 by spyinthesky
