about the CPS losing staff and buildings everything is computerised these days there is no need for big filing cabinets, pools of typists and administrators.

Just another broken public service cos the Etonians didn’t listen to anyone (as they clearly know best because look how educated they are), to assess the impact of their austerity measures to services that aren’t ever going to impact their privileged world.

Firstly, some advice. Don’t take anything that the forum WUM/stalker posts seriously. I have said that I used to work for the CPS, I didn’t and don’t “boast” about it.

So, back to Keir Starmer and the state of the Criminal Justice System. I worked under three different DPP’s whilst working there (and for the whole of his five year tenure) and he was by far the most effective and engaged. My wife worked for the CPS for over 30 years and says the same.

The others would turn up, talk at us for a while to tick a box, then vanish until the next meeting. Starmer would ask questions, listen to the responses, provide feedback and make changes for improvement where he could.

When you look at both parties it is very clear that Starmer and his team have a far greater understanding of what is going on for normal people than anyone on the Tory front bench, or the rest of their party for that matter.

For those who have been paying attention, ever since he became leader of the Labour Party he has been constantly travelling around the country talking to people, listening and getting a real idea of what is going on in this country at ground level.

He will make a far better PM than anyone currently likely to become leader of the Tories once Sunak is ousted but he has got an incredibly tough job to do in overturning the 14 years of misrule.

As for your comment about the CPS. The whole of the CJS; the CPS, the Court Service, the police and probation, have all been decimated by the Tory policy of austerity. Year after year our budgets were cut and we spent too much time having to manage these cuts. The only way we could save money was to lose staff and close buildings. You save more money by losing the longest serving and most experienced staff (and they are most likely to seek a severance package) The rest of the Criminal Justice System were in the same boat which is why the whole thing is a “shambles”.

You will probably be aware that the situation is the same for pretty much all of our public services. Something to consider when you head off to the polling booth later in the year. Can the country survive another five years of being governed by this bunch of self serving incompetents?

Was Starmer disingenuous then as well, or were you all sycophantically praising his every move because he faked to be interested?

There is nothing in the World that would make me want to vote Tory at the next election. That doesn't mean Starmer is any good though.

The worst thing is, if you look back at the 2019 election, Corbyn's policy make sense now. It's a shame, but I think for the good of the country Corbyn would be better than Starmer. Plus I bet he wouldn't be supporting the crimes going on in Gaza atm.

Just looking back at it now. Christ it sounds good:

Can't imagine many people would disagree with many of these now! If only McDonnell and Corbyn had floppy hair, spoke like a posh toddler from Middle Earth, and got women pregnant just by looking at them.

Where exactly have I praised his every move? I have said he was a good DPP, which he was, and I have said that I think he will make a good PM. That is not praising his every move and I don’t agree with everything he says or does.

Does he support the “crimes” in Gaza? He has said that Israel have the right to defend themselves but need to act within international law. Since when has saying you have to abide by the law become support for law breaking?

Think what you like but he would have to go some to be worse than Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak.

Oh yes the tories are cunts and this current lot are beyond usless but that doesn’t change the fact that the endless bleating from certain people that their job is now redundant is as much down to their failings than anything else

He called out Russian war crimes, but is turning a blind eye to the Israeli ones. That's support in my eyes.

Again, I never said he wouldn't be better than the Tories - but then that's like saying Chlamydia is better than Aids.

OK, so what do you disagree with? 12 policies - would be good to hear 12 salient arguments against them.

Renationalisation is just a nice dream, would cost a fortune and we are skint. A nice idea but not doable.

Well, you wouldn't do it in one foul swoop, but you would do it piecemeal over time, as is happening with the railways now. Power and water needs to happen - we are all effectively paying a 100-150% tax (dependent on quarter) on our power due to not owning and generating enough of our own power. That equates to just over £60bn in additional spending. That does not include the £40bn the government spent on handouts. The cost to nationalise power - less than £3bn.

That's a lot of money that would have been better spent re-nationalising, de-coupling and future proofing our grid. Or even just creating a British Power company to run alongside.

As said, we are currently re-nationalising failing railway franchises, the Royal Mail is about to fail and will also be re-nationalised. Water is also now a huge issue, and it won't be long until that needs to come back in to Government power as the water companies refuse to pay for infrastructure work - issue is that one is very expensive, around £90bn.

Lots of costly pledges, no difficult how we are going to pay for them, which is exactly why they flopped at the polls

Renationalising everything. It wasn't a goal to renationalise 1 thing and show how successfully it could be run afterwards. Renationalising a parcel delivery company makes little sense & would be costly but communication union would be happy i guess. Equally renationalising energy firms doesn't actually make much sense. They're not producers and would be extremely expensive.  Starmer's idea of a green energy production company is much more promising imo. Water, very costly to buy back, plus expensive maintenance that's an unsexy budget drain, which was the same problem pre privatisation when there was underinvestment. Railways are the easiest given the franchise system. Given how bad BR was, i'm not convinced it would be better than my local well run franchise but there certainly are bad franchises you can start with.

Freezing pension age- cost billions

Care service- govts of every stripe have been trying to get to grips with, because it costs so much

Scrapping universal credit- loads of disruption, they didn't even have a replacement mapped out

Free bus travel - more money

Loads of council homes, every govt promises house buildings falls vastly short, & i'm guessing costly

According to the Observer, in the last 4 months 4 Rwandans haver been granted asylum in the UK due to their fear of persecution at home, in their "safe" country.

And in the Sunday Express, Rishi Sunak is said to be targeting the over-50s to gain their votes in the GE..........Here's one voter on whom he is wasting his effort.

OK - but we're trying to make the country a better place - money can be re-couped from increasing taxes back up to 50% for additional tax, non-Dom status etc. Universal credit is shit. Freezing pension age I agree with - not needed and will cost too much.

However, this country is a fucking mess - it needs proper investment to improve it.

How much for Track and Trace? How much for HS2? How much for dodgy PPE? How many billions wasted? Fucking Rwanda. All could have started us off in the correct direction.

And just to keep pace, before all these nice ideas, there needs to be about 3x Southamptons built every 12 months.

Just think of the investment needed in housing. Multiply the annual number of new house by the average house price and then take that figure out of the general economy. And that’s without the infrastructure needed.

For the most part the 12 policies are pretty solid when run through one by one, it was going for so much in one manifesto that undermine it all.  His 2017 manifesto, which was a lot less ambitious, was a lot more popular.  The 2019 brexit policy was a political disaster too (and objectively foolish).

That coupled with the media going absolutely ham to destroy him, it was always destined to be a disaster.

The how are we going to pay argument does not stack up.  Post WWII the most radical government of modern times created the NHS and delivered multiple other social benefits.  The USA new deal in the thirties was based on a government spending money “it didn’t have”.  Provide your spending is focused on longer term infrastructure and social improvements it is an investment and you will get a return on it.

As long as the spending is on infrastructure, and allows an increase in spending in the economy. Short term pain for long term gain.

A 500k mortgage moving from 1.9% fixed rate to 5% variable rate?

Although with his £118,300 salary, that gives him a take home pay of £6,230 per month, so he should be able to afford the increase - or he has some expensive habits!

That's before you take into consideration his lucrative expense account as an MP.

Ah, bless you hypo, you are the one who seems to be obsessed with her skin colour. Tell me, why is it you far right types have to make stuff up all the time? Is it because you have nothing to fall back on and have to rely on the tactics of Donald Trump? 🤔

Embarrassed that you are happy to vote for another lying Tory perhaps?

£800 to £2k? Over what number of years are you calculating that??? 250 years?

£500k at 1.9% = £9500 interest per year. Therefore £791 per month.

£500k at 5% = £25000 interest per year. Therefore £2083 per month.

This is calculated on interest only, so the number of years is irrelevant.  As the rate goes up, so do the interest payments. A fixed rate of 1.9% was easily achievable 3 to 5 years ago. A rate of 5% is realistic right now.

Hope that helps.

It is bizarre isn’t it? This same group of posters have been posting on here for years over a large range of subjects yet you will never see them disagree or post against another in the group and they are all quick to support one another.

Could it be that they all have the same xenophobic, Islamophobic, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, racist, anti-woke, far right tendencies I wonder? Birds of a feather and all that.

They must be getting really worried about the next election. Who to vote for? The party of Braverman, Patel, Anderson, Kendrick, Badenoch and the other far right loons or the Reform Party of Farage and his further right loons? Choices, choices 🤔

Incorrect. We do disagree but unlike you we dont piously preach to each other, tell each other they are racist, far right loons or generally behave like a cock. You could learn something. Do you know you learn more from people you disagree with than people you agree with. I know you like to stick your fingers in your ears and scream names at people you dont if they dont subscribe 100% to how to see things but you'd be a much better person if you realised not everyone agrees with you.

I think it's more that there's agreement about you being a figure of fun that's ripe for mockery. Regardless of any other disagreements that's something we can all find common cause in.

This is true. It's very amusing that he takes internet forums so seriously, like how he believes he's saving the world from racism by calling it out on here, yet everyone thinks he's a joke figure.  got to hurt.

I certainly find it interesting to listen to well argued points of view that I disagree with. The alternative is taking the soggy approach and screaming that anyone who isn't a Corbyn supporter or who doesn't believe that Kemi Badenoch is the black Satan is a Christian nazi belt buckle wearing, Katie Hopkins supporting skinhead whose only interaction with other races is when they cut their hair or shine their shoes.
