Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 My 320 Gig HDD has about 6 Gig left and I'm looking to upgrade to 1 Terabyte. Which is the best way to transfer all my program files and data onto the new drive leaving the OS on the 320? If necessary, I can buy a smaller HDD to use as the OS drive and have 1.3 TB as data drives. I am running Vista 32 and have at least 3 SATA connections free on the mobo. Al de Man Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 For your data, use something like Robocopy. The problem with using a drag and drop is it only takes one corrupt file buried down in a deep directory and you'll spend ages manually taking stuff across. Robocopy automatically re-attempts to copy a file a defined number of times before giving up and moving to the next one. Explorer just gives up on the whole procedure. For your apps, reinstallation from disc is probably the easiest.
thesaint sfc Posted 27 January, 2009 Share Posted 27 January, 2009 I'd just ghost it personally. Or you can use a free program called copywipe.
