Andrew Watson Posted 29 April, 2023 Share Posted 29 April, 2023 In 2010/11 we went up to the championship and Plymouth went down to League 3, today they clinched promotion to the championship. 11 years ago we went up to the premier league and Coventry went down to league 3 and they could even pass us by winning the championship play offs in a few weeks time [ maybe unlikely ]. Both clubs now have good financial backing and have good potential support, how things can change.
Turkish Posted 29 April, 2023 Share Posted 29 April, 2023 During the late 80s and 90s Coventry were about as close a similar to club to saints as you can get. Horrendous owners in SISU saw them struggle for years, we dodged a bullet there for sure. Another one of about 20 club that’s could easily claim they have potential to be a lower midtable premier league club.
Andrew Watson Posted 29 April, 2023 Author Share Posted 29 April, 2023 Totally agree with that Turkish and they have a really good manager in Mark Robins, who having been given time has done a really fantastic job there. Schumaker at Plymouth has done a fantastic job as well.As my now local team, living in Launceston, the only time I would ever consider going to Home Park is to see Saints. Often 2 games a week, 46 game season. And look at the make up of the current teams in the league; currently 19 of them have been in the premier league in the past 30 years. And it’s likely to be adding to that with promotions from league one, Ipswich are up and playoffs could be Sheff wed, Barnsley , Bolton or derby. Mr Saints Posted 29 April, 2023 Share Posted 29 April, 2023 I don’t know what League 3 is but we’ll be there in no time with Selles playing Elyounoussi as a false 9. 2
rooney Posted 30 April, 2023 Share Posted 30 April, 2023 Going to Home Park will bring back memories-the failing floodlights, Jim Joyce pulling a hamstring and of course those Gingsters Pasties.
AlexLaw76 Posted 30 April, 2023 Share Posted 30 April, 2023 (edited) As said on another thread, a good example is that over the last 12 months we will have paid Alex McCarthy more money than Plymouth will have paid (wages) for the entire playing staff over the same period Edited 30 April, 2023 by AlexLaw76
Badger Posted 30 April, 2023 Share Posted 30 April, 2023 Going back to L1 days, but it appears that Brighton more than managed to “keep up”.

We just have to hope all their contracts have relegation clauses or if Dragon is willing to take a punt on bouncing straight back or we could be fucked. Our future basically depends on what a Serbian business man wants to do. We could easily do a Bournemouth and go straight back up or easily do a Pompey if he decides to cut and run. Bad Wolf Posted 30 April, 2023 Share Posted 30 April, 2023 I live just outside Plymouth (Ivybridge) and have a lot of Argyle supporting mates. So happy for them, proper decent club. Looking forward to our games against them next season!
Jonnyboy Posted 30 April, 2023 Share Posted 30 April, 2023 Was a good day out there when we returned to the Championship. Connolly hit the bar and I dodged a literal brick.

Plymouth supporters were lobbing bricks at us as we left the away entrance. Police were there but did nothing.Quite frightening I recall.
