Saints 0-1 Cherries - Match Thread

Lets be honest, to even give yourselves a hope of depending on other results to stay up we will need to win a minimum of 3 of our last 6 games, most likely 4.

Given some of the fixtures I think its clear that tonight simply has to be a win to keep that very tiny possibility of staying up alive.

If we suddenly win tonight and away at Newcastle then who knows. But its pretty obvious we aren't good enough to produce a run like that.

When we go down it will be a very deserved relegation.

For a start Everton still have Leicester to play so it's impossible for all of them to lose all of their games.

If your devil's advocate scenario is three teams lose all their remaining games and none of them get more than 30 points but Saints still don't get more than 30 either and go down then that's a ridiculous scenario that isn't going to happen. The team in 17th will have more than 30. If we can only get 30 points we will deservedly go down.

We are not going to relegated just because boo hoo Forest beat Brighton.

This is the fundamental problem with those people that are just willing every other team to lose themselves to our safety. It's not how it works, Saints actually have to do their part.

The point is three teams go down, its not a play off between us and Forest. Forest winning a match last night is irrelevant.

The point is to stay up we need ourselves to get significantly mote points than Forest have now, so them being on 30 today is irrelevant because we need more than 30.

We needed more than 30 before Forest kicked off last night. We needed more than 30 on August 1st 2022.

So are you saying there is some likelihood we might go down this season?

Anything other than 3 points tonight then our very slim chances of staying up will disappear. A real must win game.

Let’s hope that’s sunk in with Selles and he sets up to go at them and actually win a game rather than set up a “don’t lose” team

Had we won at Arsenal and won tonight we'd have had a chance. It's gone now.

We appear to be done after the Arse collapse, but it will be incredibly annoying if we fail to turn over these bucket-rattling, deck-chair attending, JCL Julian from accounts, wankers.

Hopefully Rasmus will read this post out as motivation before the game in a Welsh accent.

They did say man would never climb Everest....

Saints staying up this season would be the footballing equivalent of man scaling Everest with a blue whale strapped to his back and playing note perfect concertos on a grand piano all the way. With no breaks.

they once said men couldn't get pregnant and now we know they defy all laws of nature so and do it, so ANYTHING is possible.

Time to start playing the squad we might have next season. Walcott on his own, probably.

I guess the best we can hope for tonight is some passion, and a win, just to let us dream that we are not going to get battered against Newcastle, who seem to have bought off the FA and Sky.

Went to watch some non-league the other night. Excellent atmosphere, passion on the pitch, no little skill, and cheesy chips and beer. A tenner to get in. What's not to like? Compared to 200 quid spunked on watching our losers give no shits whatsoever against Palace the other night. This is the problem Saints will now have, until they inspire the supporters by actually trying. First out the door should be Selles, with his incredibly dour, defensive style, which was clearly seeping into Ralph too much over time, and is why we are so deathly dull and crablike across the park. Obviously Rasmus, but he will cling on like a bad turd in the toilet. Can't be arsed tonight so going to watch some (real) comedy.

I actually did that, but I ticked the No publicity box l, and now no one will believe me!

BTW, tonight is the beginning of a three game winning streak, then all of you negative ninnies will feel very silly!

Three wins on the trot would certainly be out of character for Saints this season but even that would probably still see them in the bottom 3.

If it ever happened I'd be delighted to feel very silly. Question is, when will the deluded optimists have their own moment of feeling very silly?

It was obvious we were going down when we played Brighton at home after the world cup.  Just on different planets with that performance.

Had we hired a proper manager instead of Jones, we would have had a fighting chance, compared to this mess.

With rasmus in charge, I have zero expectations of promotion next season.  Just by the players we will retain and the financial imbalance in our favour next year, we will probably fight it out for top 6

Yes that Brighton game should have been a massive wake up call for the people in charge. Lallana running the show and none of our players getting within three feet of Caicedo all afternoon. No matter. We had Nathan Jones.

I remember a few of us saying get rid right away after seeing that on Boxing Day following up Lincoln after 6 weeks prep. Fail fast and all that. Although clearly management would never do but clearly would have been right thing to do.

Can't see anything other than an easy three points for Bournemouth tonight. They know we are desperate to win and lack creativity so can just sit there and hit us on the break. 2 or 3 nil defeat.

If Bournemouth keep a clean sheet they've basically won.

I actually think we'll win - we tend to do alright vs the attacking sides, and then absolute dogshite when teams set up to defend against us.

I just want that short lived high when the whistle goes and you leave the ground after a win, although I'm not sure I remember what the feeling is like. It makes for less short term grumpiness, although longer term we're obviously doooomed.

Even better if we score a few goals and hence have something to cheer during the game as I seem to recall that's quite a good feeling too..

This is it, though, isn't it. Surely by now every Tom, Dick and Harry know that we absolutely cannot break teams down. We couldn't even split Grimsby open, for fuck's sake.

Sit back and watch us defeat ourselves - easy for opposing teams.

Really intrigued as to who is going down with us. Every time it seems another side is as dead and buried as us they pull off a result. Would like it to be Everton for the financial implosion of the club and the crying from the dugout pioneers. A Bournemouth win tomorrow will guarantee survival for them surely.

I want Everton for the same reason and then probably Leicester.

Just read on another site about the wonderful  return of the "phenomenon" Che ADAMS for tonight!   My god if thats what we are relying on with 5 goals in the league in a full season its obvious we 'aint going to stay up.   He was only ever a foil for ING's who was the best we had for some time (and to be cruelly honest a very good goal poacher but still not in the top level.)   What a dreadful state of affairs the club has got into.    We all know there are holes all over the team positions.   They now talk as if BEDNAREK is a saviour, couldnt make it elsewhere.   Just as WALCOTT couldnt make it anywhere, and dont start me on ELI....  We have just about a nucleus of proper talent , but the rest are drawing large wages for pitiful contributions.   I am old enough to remember when we knew we wouldnt win the league , but my god, we entertained and brought a smile to supports faces, and we enjoyed it.  The era of Channon, Ball, Keegan, Worthington etc and then Le god's 😇era etc .  Do i want to pay £70 to take my grand daughter and i tonight - no.  Some will say thats not a good fan, but can think of better ways to entertain us for that sum.  Such a shame

I watch Winchester city sometimes and it's a million times more entertaining and skillfully. Prem players would not be able to match the fitness or shooting from 20 yards

It's the thick as shit melons that scream "SHOOOOOOT" when one of our players is within 30 yards of the goal that get me, and then kick off like a member of their family has been killed by ISIS when the player chooses not to shoot because they have three opposition players 2 yards in front of them blocking any shots.

Bet that doesn't put them off at Winchester.

We've been incapable of going on any run of form whatsoever, and there's nothing to suggest that will change.

I had a look to see what our best run of the season has been. It is 3 matches unbeaten, a win and two draws.

3-D66-CC72-D1-CB-40-D3-BB83-D8-B44166-C7

On two other occasions, we’ve gone 2 matches unbeaten. We could make that three occasions if we go unbeaten tonight.

We really have been shockingly shit all season.

You are right of course, but we did score three against Arsenal, albeit they gave us the first.

As someone that goes to watch Fareham Town a lot, I agree with the entertainment part.

Yep. That was the one match this season I have been to (live far away now) and I was shocked how awful we were, both in terms of on pitch quality and managerial nous.

That was going to be our Big Reset. Sack Ralph at World Cup break and give the new guy a pre-season! P.s. and it's Nathan Jones!

Mental.

Surely there is no one who thinks we’ll win tonight. Mid week, under the lights at home, in a genuine high pressure game.

Bournemouth sit back and pick this mentally feeble bunch of Cunts off with ease. As happens every other single time.
