I went to my first Saints game in 1992, and can hand on heart say this current team is the worse team I’ve seen in 30 years. We have no intensity , no drive , zero attacking threat . It’s absolutely soul destroying watching us these days . And Selles has been a huge part of the problem this season , if this way of playing is the future , then god help us.

I agree - worst team I've seen and I'll raise you 18 years. Worst team I've seen since 1974 and there are many on this forum that have seen Saints a lot longer than me. The final glimmer of hope has gone. Only go to half a dozen home and half a dozen away games a year but won't be watching this bunch live again this year. Actually dislike them...and the weird thing is the only players I don't mind (apart from Lavia & Alcaraz) are the useless ones who seem to care ie. Che, Lyanco

It’s not good when you love your club but despise the team.

Out of everyone, the only player in the squad I like is KWP. Lavia too obviously, but no way he’s sticking around. The rest are shit, quicker the dross is gone the better.

It is self torture watching Saints at the moment. I hate it. We are pathetic and it’s infuriating, especially when we have just gone from giving the league leaders a run for the money to that. What even is that, which we just witnessed? Gutless, spineless and quite frankly pathetic.

Fair play to Bournemouth, showing passion for the badge and the game and how to handle getting out of the bottom.

Fuck this squad of players.

Useless, gutless frightened rabbit c€£s. I will not even bother to watch a dodgy stream until we start with a forward and not a false 9.

The last 2 home games have been nothing short of pathetic. Selles is better than Jones, but only in the same way that I am a better footballer than Douglas Badder.

Clear the lot out and sign some old pros to develop Doyle, Payne and Ballard.

Must win game and we hardly laid a glove on them .

At least Douglas Barder flew past the enemy.

It's an overused trope, but I'd play the fucking kids.

I'd also play AMN for 90 minutes each game to force the lazy cunt to do some running.

Get Aribo on as well then.

Between the two of them, they might muster a sprint 😳

I just don't understand how a group of highly paid, professional sportsmen can contrive to be so consistently inept, week after week.

Every single time we've had a 'must win' home game against a lower half team, we've fucked it up. I mean, surely by the law of averages we could have managed to fluke a win in at least one of those games with a massive slice of luck and the other team being just worse than us on the night, surely? But no. We fuck it up... Every. Single. Time.

You make your own luck. The reason we haven't had any good luck all season is because we haven't worked hard enough to earn it.

This won’t be my most eloquent post.

It’s been years of shit recruitment (since Koeman left). Those nerdy cunts have a lot to answer for.

Running perfectly alongside that came the years of self-congratulatory backslapping about how innovative we are.

Tons of posturing about being progressive all the while talking and not actually doing… and many key positions in the club being taken up by these types.

Waffling away with catchphrases, slogans and executive speak, pissing around with analysing bullshit metrics.

‘Bold’ . Fuck off with your empty platitudes you gutless bunch of cunts.

Youve pissed off thousands of good people with your cunty actions for seasons now. Fuck you fuck you fuck you.

just had a thought… there’s that poor fucker in Australia whose gotta wake up to this yet. Went to bed hoping for a Saints win..

Time for Dragan to turn up, open the door and usher the board out along with the coaching staff and most of the players.

If he can't do that, then his time is up too.

I've seen several Saints teams over my years that were less talented than the opposition, but they always fought for the club to the end. I cant even begin to feel anything for a team that has given up like this lot have.

In the most Saintsy way, you know we'll pull out one of those battling performances and win it 2-1.

We won’t win a single game until we’re officially relegated when they’ll suddenly remember how to play football.

I got angry for once watching this game as in all the other dross there was a quiet resignation that defeat was inevitable (as we cannnot score) or even create chances. Perhaps, mistakenly I thought that we would go for it as this really was a must win game. I am sure I am not alone in that false expectation of fight, aggression, passion, busting a gut, charging forward, harrasiing the opposition into errors, shots at goal urged on by excited fans.

No just the same old lacklustre lottery selection and total lack of team effort from a shiot team selection for this game.

RIP Southampton FC 2023

It's all very well to want Selles sacked - he certainly deserves to be. But then there's the small matter that his replacement will be hired by the same fuckwits that let the players quit on Ralph (yes, he certainly had shortcomings), hired Jones, replaced him with Selles, and then sat by while Selles gutlessly surrendered without a fucking whimper. The fact that the owner sat through this abject disaster without lifting a finger is sickening.

I'm not even seeing a glimmer of hope right now. A shit recipe makes for a shit cake, whether you cook it on the top shelf of the oven, or the second shelf, or ... god forbid.

We did fluke a win against Leicester. We were awful that day and they could have beaten us 3 or 4-1 but kept missing. So we won 1-0.

It’s the same spineless displays against any one outside the top five all season.

You could copy and paste those displays, same crap every time. Left to right, attempt to float in the box to nobody or hits first man. Don’t challenge the goal at all. Kick around with no idea, holding onto the ball like we are 3-0 up. Doesn’t matter what manager we have, this gutless none intent play is ingrained in the clubs current DNA.

It looks to anyone like this is a managerial decision, because we do it time and time again and it looks like it’s on purpose. Because how can professionals play this bad? But I don’t believe it is. They are just pussies. They are afraid, and they lack the confidence. GUTLESS, MENTALLY WEAK LOSERS.

The commentators did not shy away from pointing out what we've been seeing for such a long, long time.

Yet the coaching staff will go away, and crunch the numbers on how we just managed to lose by such a narrow margin. Oh, if only we could be better defensively, they'll think. Utterly, utterly clueless. The worrying thing is that the people making the appointments might buy into this for next season. When they have tried something different, they gave us Nathan Jones.

Their data cound't see what we were all seeing, when Ralph's tactic got found out. They thought it was just a matter of tightening that defence, and they could unleash their genius recruitment plan.

Their research, despite months long, completely failed to spot all the evidence from Stoke that Jones couldn't handle players at a higher level. If anything, his failure endeared him to Ankerson.

When failing to bring in another coach, they gave up the rest of our season to the guy who had been part of the coaching team of the previous failures. While he didn't come in with Jones, he was very involved in those Ralph's tactics that doomed us to those narrow 1-0 defeats as we're seeing now.

Benali: "I feel sick. My stomach is churning."

I don't blame him.

It's clear that depsite all that money spent we have players who are not Premier League quality in that side. Those that are of that standard are shadows of their potential under coaches like this.

There's no reason why we can't regroup and do well next season.

We do have some  of a team in there.

A new manager is a must. It must be someone capacle of insisting on what needs cleared out, and that has to be followed. If that's the rest of the coaching staff, then fine. We're going to be losing players for all sorts of reasons. A clear plan, and not one based on Sports Republic spreadsheet, to squad management is a must.

I don't trust those in charge to get it right, and can only hope they are involved in none of the decision making going forward.

They should have someone strong enough to pont out the numerous flaws in their recruitment policies, if we're to get the key missing players that we will need to bring in to get out of the Championship.

Benali mentioning that we've conceded goals. That's despite setting up to not concede goals. Defensively minded coach, Selles' work.
Benali then says if you're conceding, you have to be scoring. Except that we've abandoned that coherently, due to that defensive set up.
It's not the narrowness of the defeats, Sports Republic. It's that setting up to sneak a goal is doomed to failure with us. But we've never learned to change it.  Inflexible and useless.

Has to be by a long way the absolute worst forward lines we have ever fielded in a first division/premier league game

Fixed it for you.

There's just no creativity and no finishing ability in this team whatsoever. It's pathetic.

We might have got away with our defending a bit more this season if we weren't so utterly incapable of even testing the opposing keepers up the other end.

Outplayed and out fought by Bournemouth and Gary fucking O'Neill. Thats how bad its become.

Well at least all those fans who were holding onto false hope that we could actually get out of this mess (let alone score a fucking goal) can now agree that we're down.

What an absolute spineless, gutless, ball-less, pathetic, shocking, abysmal, atrocious, shambles of a team and club. Apart from Lavia, JWP and Alcaraz....I wouldnt give a flying fuck if the rest of the squad was sold/released.

Remember when people said Ruben Selles was the tactical genius behind Ralph. Honestly, Nathan fucking Jones would have picked up more points if we kept him in charge. I feel sorry for him because hes another manager out of his depth and that rests with SR.

Were Rasmus and Semmens there tonight? I hope the fans near were giving them both barrels. The epitome of failure. We were actually ok when they came in 18 months ago. Now look of the state of us. If Dragan has any care about his investment these two dickheads would gone by now.

I agree with this. Not playing with an out and out centre forward, absolute joke. Late subs once again. Fuming!

This is it to me, mentally weak players. Look at how we fold when something bad happens, goal against us etc. This isn't a new thing, this has been happening for years.

No manager is blameless here, it's a very confusing managerial season, but for me these players should take the brunt. This isn't not a new experience, no matter who is in charge.
