Not seen any/many posts on here complaining about our slowness to do business to be fair, but seeing the headline `Arsenal close in on Rice' really shows just how long some transfers can take if things don't align perfectly. That deal seems to have gone on for bloody ages. It might be that, unlike other deals, the general public saw when negotiations actually began - I think they only got started once the European final had been played - when perhaps normally they would have began weeks or even months before.

As soon as Rice to Arsenal is completed will West Ham firm up/make their bid for JWP?

And Arsenal are paying big money to get the deal done early

I presume rice to arsenal is agreed and done and dusted, the delay is to allow west ham to get some replacements sorted before the rice deal goes through and the prices go up even higher? The rumoured £25M interest in JWP part of a broader strategy to show west ham don't have that much money to spend on cm's whilst trying to hurry up other enquiries to show they have interest? I can't see that a £25M bid for jwp is remotely serious, and similarly it's so insulting they'll likely antagonise the club and possibly player as well.

another one of these theories i love, clubs that are about to or have come into a load of cash just going around low balling offers to make it look they are are not as rich as everyone thinks. It might work if not agents, players or clubs ever spoke to each other i guess, but the agents and advisors to all clubs and players will know exactly how much is available.

would make absolute sense

This.  Great age. Championship experience. RussBall ready.

We really need more players in this squad who we know are 100% here for the season.  Have so many who's futures are up in the air.

There’s no delay as such in the Rice transfer. I think it’s just the normal legal stuff that has to go on before it’s confirmed. People think it’s a delay because journalists are desperate to get news out so early because their readers want content and so the deal seemed wrapped up ages ago. The announcement of Charles for example will be well after the breaking of the story by all the normal sources which have now become the equivalent of the club announcing a new signing.

They'll really learn to us, we basically relegated them from the prem, signed their manager on the cheap whilst they paid his wages needlessly for a month, now we're going to pillage some of their best players 😄

Isn't he a free agent?

If he any good?

He's a very good player at this level, could probably do it in the level above as well. A huge attacking threat down the left as a WB.

Let's hope this isn't another John Halls situation! (i think that was his name)

Why don't we have someone at the gates to the training ground seeing who is coming in or leaving, did anyone track any flights from Wales this morning, did anyone see him at some services buying a Burger King? What are we all playing at, we need boots on the ground until the window slams shut

To be fair I've been fully occupied blockading the A36 should any Salisbury "sham" Saints fans try to pass. I think I've done my bit, this is on someone else!

Manning was 3rd for goal creating actions (behind Gyokores and Hamer) and 5th for shot creating actions last season.

Very good attacking stats for a LB /LWB.

If he comes in would assume Perraud will go as no sense in having both.

Remember a recent interview where he cited Russel Martin as the biggest influence on his career so whilst there would be other interest we would surely have a very good chance.

Also pretty sure we were linked with him whilst he was was QPR too.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the others are final year of their contract, so only manning will be free? Could potentially do a mini Liverpool on them this summer :D

We haven't signed anyone else from them. I'll be surprised if we do to be honest given our falling out with them.

He's been extensively linked to leeds. Would be a big coup.

Perraud was also linked to Leeds before we signed him. Junior Firpo was linked to Saints before Leeds signed him. Once again we seem to have our left back signing cycle in perfect sync.

Certainly a decent enough player at this level. But if this is the case AND Fonte is coming back (though even if he's not) I'd imagine we're going to have to offload several CB's? Hopefully Bednerak.

I’m expecting to lose Salisu, ABK, DCC and Lyanco as a minimum. Leaving us with just Stephens and Bednarek. I’m not sure Simeu is ready to play for us, might be kept for squad depth. I’d expect us to sign at least 2 CBs. We’ve been linked with Edwards from Peterborough, Fonte, Holgate, Wood and Cabango from Swansea. Going to be a big change to CB and CM positions, hopefully we are more solid defensively as a result.

Manning on a free would be an insane signing! A target of Leeds, Sheff Utd and Burnely last week!

If he comes to us and not to Sheff United and Burnley in the Prem, then you would have to conclude that they simply didn't want him. You don't turn down a move to the Prem if its there.

The fact he is a free transfer and hasn't been snapped up by a Prem side already makes me question just how good he is. I've not seen him play. Anyone able to describe his strong attributes?

Attacking wise, everything you could want in a full back. Maybe a bit suspect defensively but isn't every full back these days?

Maybe he just wanted to play for Martin? It DOES happen.

Sounds about right.

we are not going to sign better players in the championship, but the quality of opponent is obviously going down too, so get the right guys in and we may be stronger in relative terms defensively.

He'd cook in the championship 💧

As LB’s or LWB’s go, this is an “oven ready” signing
