good for financials, but the reason our keeper hasn’t been dropped is because we wanted to lower this guys wages ffs.

What is it about the £126m we've spent this season that makes you think we'd weaken our team in a key position to save money?

Well I can’t really think of any other reason why Mccarthy hasn’t even had a chance this season (when not injured). Bazunu whilst I think he’s an okay keeper, should’ve been dropped at least once based on performance

surely this clause was in mind with keeping him in the team.

why? I would take Fonte back in a hearbeat.

I was thinking at the weekend that Harrison Reed could be a good one to see if he would be interested to come back. Proven in championship twice over with two promotions. Adds some needed bite in midfield (esp. important in the championship and he seems a master at that level) and leadership abilities that are also missing. Still gettting a bit of a look in at Fulham but can see if they want to move for more quality this summer with the season they have had. Could be one of those players who is brilliant in the champ and cant quite cut it in the prem so great for any team looking to get quickly promoted.

If he had moved away to west London could likely not have to move to get back to Southampton. Could be tempted by knowing the club, unfinished business, taking over the armband from his mate ward-prowse if he moves on.

That ship sailed long ago. Doubt anybody at the Academy these days still remember him and he was never a fan's favourite. He's done OK at Fulham so why would he want to move unless he runs out of contract and they let him go on a free.

Let's face it having had Lavia for a season and Romeu we have  seen what the standard should be and Reed is nowhere near that level.

Be interesting to see how much Brighton regress from the summer.

Mac Callister, Mitoma and Caicedo will surely leave.  As we know, having a revolving door will bite you sooner or later.

You may be correct. I wonder if they’ll piss away the £150M they generate like we did

Good article on Brighton in the G on Saturday. We get an honourable mention half-way down as a ‘former poster club’ (bracketed in with Swansea, anybody remember them?)

More recently it was Wolves. Every club gets their two seasons in the sun.

I wish we were Brighton now that I revoked any desire to wish we were Wolves, West Ham or Leicester who I absolutely don't wish we were any more.

Next season I wish we were Villa or Burnley probably.

Watching that game at the weekend just made me wish we had, like Brighton, taken a cup or two seriously from 2013-16.

He's played nearly every game for a top-half team, he's too good for our sinking ship if we go down!

Yep. Ended up in a league cup final and two FA cup semis with inferior sides.

That said, I don’t think I could forgive Ralph for the completely absent performance against Leicester at Wembley a couple of seasons ago. Probably our best chance of winning a major trophy for a very long time.

Pochettino fucked up our best chance with his disgraceful team selection at Sunderland. That was our best chance of a trophy by far.

Both Brighton and Brentford and one manager change and 1-2 key player sales away from Carillo or Hoedt-ville.

Ahhh, good times when we were the poster club though.

Ignoring the semi final Ralph got us to (losing to the eventual winners in Leicester) throwing an awful display…?

Poch had a team that were capable of winning a trophy though. I don't think Ralph, or Hughes for that matter, had that luxury.

We lost because we were not good enough. Poch put out a team of reserves when we actually had a side capable of winning the thing (there were teams like Sheffield Utd and Hull City waiting in the next rounds). Plus we had nothing to play for in the league.

Terrible decision by Poch to go for an understrength side when the cup was there for the taking. We were a quality side that season and I truly felt we could beat anyone on our day - not just hope we could. On paper it was still a reasonable side, but he left out Fonte, Morgan and JRod, and played Hooiveld, JWP and Guly.

JWP was hardly a bad shout, he started nearly half of all league games that season and had another 18 league appearances as a sub. Playing the likes of Kelvin, Yoshida, Hooiveld and Guly was poor but that side still had Clyne, Shaw, Lallana, Lambert, S Davis and Wanyama in it. Plus Morgan and JRod came on as subs after an hour. It was a shocker to play a weakened team but a reserve team it absolutely was not.

I worry that the fuckwits in charge offered Elyfuckinguseless a new contract.

Awful footballer.

Maybe we offered him a contract that reflects his true value, which would result in a big pay cut, so he's decided to move on

Exactly the sort of player we will be sniffing around. Not against it at all as he's talented, but so was Edozie, Mara, ABK etc etc.

We need to focus on experience this summer (I'm not talking 30+ year olds, but  we need to avoid more kids on day releases from school). Our B Team has done well enough to potentially provide some of that young talent this summer, whilst we focus on proven mid-20's upwards additions.

The contract will probably have a sizeable relegated reduction in it, so becomes a lot less attractive to sign with our imminent relegation. He obviously thinks he can get more money elsewhere and as a free agent. Good luck to him. He's always done his best for us. Shame his best wasn't quite what we needed. It's a shame we don't have a few more players out of contract to help us trim the wage bill.

He’s got no business drawing any sort of wage.  I would make him pay subs.

Am I the only one that thinks JWP has been playing the last month like a man who knows he is being sold ? If he has been not well then apologies to him.

however, he looks to me like he has been playing to avoid injury. He definitely hasn’t been playing like a captain should in a relegation fight.

Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Turkey maybe? Surely not another Prem team.

Leicester like taking some of our 'star' players. Would fit in well with Vestergaard. Although the fixation with recruiting from us may have changed with Rodgers going.

Koeman jacked it in with us for a payday at Everton. His backroom team didn’t want to leave.

I remember reading something similar about Poch and his backroom team.

In hindsight, we should have offered Erwin Koeman the job when his brother decided to walk.

I think in essence that’s what happened.

Koeman was aware of the “project” at Everton after their takeover and through various media outlets was rumoured to be offered a substantial amount (£5-6M a year).
He went to Les Reed and in essentially said match that and Les’ response was along the lines of “No, you have a contract, if someone wants you they’ll have to make an offer”.

It was after then that he was placed on gardening leave for a very brief period, and then a few weeks later was announced as Everton manager.

He tried to call the clubs bluff and Saints wouldn’t have it. EK and the rest of his backroom team were apparently fuming behind the scenes.

Yet we ended up paying Ralph £6m a year…

Sounds about right for Twitter experts.

Blackpool fans will tell you Patino is the slowest player they've ever seen and physically underdeveloped for men's football.

An unholy hybrid of Elyounoussi and Jake Hesketh.

are they the same ones who raved about selles, and act like a journalist saying we’re signing players when we’re not.
