Patrick Roberts seems an incredibly underwhelming Tella replacement. Imperative we keep Sulemana as we should have enough quality out wide with him, Edozie and Fraser regardless. I'm sure he'd be fine, but its incredibly annoying that we could have got Piroe, who played there a lot for Swansea, if the Tella deal had got done quicker. A front 3 of (assuming Adams goes) Stewart, Piroe and Sulemana would have been fantastic.

I know I'm in the minority, but I believe letting Mara go would be a mistake. I thought he looked good against QPR off the bench. His physicality, like Adams, is necessary in that role. I would have been comfortable with Stewart and Mara as our no.1 and no.2 assuming Adams goes.

Fans forget that Mara was only 20 years old last season and it was a big step up from Ligue 1. I think he would be good in the Championship and should be a player we try and hold onto. He is built like a no.9 for this system and there aren't enough players like that around.

As a footballing decision I'd keep him but if he's not settled in this country then you've got to let him go

In terms of Physicality, Mara is miles off what Che offers. Bloke can't hold the ball up for toffee.

So to properly summarise as of this time, allegedly:
1) There has been nothing in KWP leaving
2) There has been nothing in Bednarek leaving
3) There has been nothing in McCarthy leaving, or Aribo, or Onuachu for example…

if they haven't gone by now they won't be going, right?

In terms of incomings as mentioned above Patrick Roberts feels very underwhelming.
Was one highly rated at City and Celtic but clearly never lived up to the hype.

Ross Stewart, I know nothing about. Jury’s out on that one.
Would rather keep Che Adams.

Bear in mind the squad will probably be heading up north tomorrow afternoon, imagine the club do some social media snippets of the players travelling up - it might shut a few people up straight away. 😂

No I said I didn’t see him leaving. 😂

You really need to move on and allow people to have an opinion, no need to call them out for being incorrect.

Its a bit bellish to keep being like that. 🛎️

What like you did in your post you’re not very bright are you ?
I’ll leave it you obviously don’t understand irony at you posting about other’s opinions when yours are miles off.

you are only one allowed an opinion

I said I didn’t see him leaving, I thought he would stick around. He didn’t, we sold him, he left, I was incorrect. Move on.
Is there really a basis for bringing up someone’s opinion over and over again?🤣

I'm not sure why Roberts is underwhelming. Sunderland fans on their forum are saying he's their best player.

I'm not sure why people are underwhelmed by Patrick Roberts, he was a star at this level last year. I don't think we're trying to sign a straight replacement for Tella, if you look at the makeup of our squad we already have the quick wide players in SAA, Edozie, Fraser, Sulemana (if he stays). Patrick Roberts reminds me more of a Lallana type of AM. He can play from the left, the right but I'm not sure yet if he makes messi look shite.

Genuinely though he's a technically gifted AM, different profile to Tella but a profile I'd suggest we don't really have at the mo.

I meant Roberts sorry.

Tella was very good, you know what you’re going to get.

Roberts felt like one of those players that never quite lived up to the hype.

He could be exceptionally good at this level, I haven’t seen him play for a while.

But in terms of replacing Tella it’s underwhelming, Tella I think would net you 15 goals from out wide this season comfortably, I can’t say I feel the same about Roberts doing that. That’s more my thinking, we’re essentially having to replace the goals and hope they hit the ground running.

Not similar players but replacing one of the best wingers in the division with one of the best wingers in the division dosen’t sound underwhelming at all

Twelve months ago Ralph was crying out for a striker.

He didn't get one and the Championship was inevitable.

I posted on here, some time ago, that if you thought Adams and Armstrong would keep The Saints in the Premier League then you were dreaming.

Equally, if you think the Premier League beckons without recruiting another striker you remain in dreamland.

I take it you mean in addition to Stewart, which I have to agree

I'm relatively chilled about the departures.

After watching the last couple of seasons, where we lacked character, style and team spirit a huge change was needed.

I think (hope) we have the manager to address that, and although he clearly needs good players, he needs a group that want to be here, can gel and positively buy into his methods.

If that means going from Tella and Adams to the Sunderland lads, I don't think it's a bad move.

I can see us losing a CB if we are getting the Man City lad in (you don't need 5).

I hope we don't lose KWP or Alcarez.

We still have a few who may struggle for game time (Djenepo, Aribo, Stu).

My only concern is we look light upfront, with the new signing injured, Arma moving back, Ballard/Che/Mara all maybe off.

However, I bet all three of the promoted sides last season would have bitten your hand off for our squad 12 months ago.

I’m amazed at how many Saints fans have an opinion on pretty much every player we are linked with. How have you been able to see them play enough to have a judgment? I haven’t a clue about any of them.

It's easy, you google them, watch some YouTube videos, type "<playername> scout report" and job done - you're an expert.  I knew everything about the Championship inside of about 30 minutes.

Understandably, we've all been focused on the player dimensions of the squad rebuild, but I strongly suspect that there has been a very conscious attitude rebuild as well. I don't see any of these arrivals getting in the door unless Martin is comfortable that they will not only fit into his playing style but also commit to the culture he's trying to build within the squad.

His style demands a high level of commitment to tactics, effort and cohesiveness, and I'm sure that's right up there with "skill" and "ability" in his player assessment.

Time will tell, but right now I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Don't want to go into hyperbole or claim I know loads about him but from what I have seen from Patrick Roberts I would not be averse to seeing him in a Saints top. Bit of that #10/creativity we need. Still young too

I think he looks good, and with Fraser, who is a proper premier League player that Tella never was, we've covered his departure well. If Roberts comes in that is.

Good to see the club have got rid of most of the pricks from last season plus too good for the championship Tella.

Seems like a couple of the crybaby sulking plums are still here like Sulemana and Bella K but hopefully shift them by 11pm and crack on with the season. Most of these mateys here now should be able to get  back when the opposition are attacking instead of slow jogging or pretending they’re injured.

I agree with both of you. I know he was highly rated as a youngster but he's now 26, and in his entire career he's scored 12 goals and got 11 assists in over 150 games. Doesn't scream one of the best midfielders in the division as one person said, or particularly creative as another said, and it's an undeniable fact that the player he would be replacing scored more goals last season than Roberts has his entire career.

Doesn't mean he won't be good, but it's not unreasonable to have doubts about this signing.

From what I’ve seen Mara not even that bovvered about holding his head up, let alone the ball.  If he’s seen as the answer the wrong questions are being asked.

Quite something that we still have fans think Mara will come good...or even be OK.
